I do know who the unethical groomer is (not this post’s author) and following this great local groomers post I want to reassure all my customers that your dogs are treated with love and care (including some chicken bribery) whilst grooming and even when being walked. I find ways to gain trust and compliance from your pup and ensure the grooming experience is a joy, not a torture experience. In my 5 years of grooming I’ve only ever sent 1 dog home incomplete and that was purely down to the dogs safety. I take pride in my work and love all my amazing customers.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
After discovering some very distressing behaviour from another local groomer (not Dawlish) I just wanted to stress the importance of choosing a trustworthy groomer. Our industry is sadly unregulated. This means anyone can call themselves a groomer. There are a few amazing groomers out their without official qualifications, however there are also some that are doing serious damage working with dogs in the way they are. The only way to ensure that your dog is going to be safe in the groomers care is to ensure they are fully qualified. We spend alot of money, time, and effort into being qualified and would be happy to show you that we understand the level of professionalism you expect from us.
Being able to complete a groom is not always a positive outcome if the groomer is ignoring stress signals and violating your dogs boundaries and trust. Education is what ensures a groomer has the knowledge to correctly handle dogs, and experience is the ability to correctly apply it to each individual situation. It's so disheartening to work so hard to build trust with dogs and their confidence being groomed then watch it them delicate boundaries being completely violated and abused. Dogs don't play up to be naughty, it's often due to them struggling with something.
Compationate approach comes before everything else.
If you are concerned at all about what experience your dog is having at the groomers then you can research what groomers are registered on groomers spotlight. It's a registery of fully qualified groomers that all have to follow a standard of care and safety.
Let's keep our pets safe and happy. 🐾
