Gorgeous Sophie had to have a lion cut today as she was miserable with her matted fur. Her mum said she was trying to take it into her own hands and was biting at them and trying to pull them out.

You might be thinking, "Where? I can't see any matting in her coat in that picture." That's because matting isn't always visible to the eye. It starts underneath at the undercoat and spreads outwards towards the top coat.

Sophie was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism which can affect the fur causing it to go greasy, look unkempt and can cause matting. Cats with this disease can over groom and end up with bald patches.

Sophie's mum was doing everything she could to help her feline companion.

Afterwards, I could see that Sophie felt instantly better and was beginning to groom herself normally again. 😊

Her mum has decided that maybe a lion cut might be the way forward for Sophie's happiness in the future.

Preventing matting by regular brushing is always key, but sometimes life throws us those curve balls and we take our eye off the ball for just a moment. It happens to us all. Add in illnesses to the mix and it makes it even more tricky.

Another satisfying groom! 😻

Look at this sweet boy Leo who I met last of all today 🥰. Leo came straight up to me when I arrived and was giving me head bumps. I knew we were going to get along from the get go.

Leo is a 15 year old British Short haired who isn't grooming himself as much as he used to.

Today he looked like a spikey hedgehog bless him. Two hours later of constant brushing and voila.....back to himself! He also had an ear and eye clean which he enjoyed too.

Just look at the before and after pics of this one and how much dead hair came out just from brushing.

It's been a busy day today at Pinky's! First I dropped off all of the goodies for Ukraine (thank you everyone who donated something) and quickly clipped Billy's claws whilst I was there.

After that I met and groomed Fluffy, Wh**ey, and Silky.

Fluffy was a big grey soft lad who was super good for his groom and didn't want to get off the table afterwards. 🥰

Wh**ey was good for 5 minutes but then wanted to be down so we repeated this method giving her lots of breaks until she was done.

We only managed to get half of Silky done though as she went missing for a short while and then hid. (No pic)

All had lots of mats removed and Fluffy had a sanitary trim and Wh**ey had a tummy trim.

Yesterday I met this sweet boy Arlo. 🥰 Arlo is only 18 months old and loves to play and roll around.

He's a big lad and has a lot of fur to deal with all by himself. I think he's the biggest ragdoll I've ever seen.

His new mum has been doing a great job keeping him well brushed every day on top but as usual there are those pesky bits underneath that our feline friends just won't let us get to, so she called me in.

Arlo was very interested in my bag and the smells so that was a good start. He was a little unsure what was going on at first when I started clipping a mat off his chest but once he realized I was helping him he settled into the groom.

His mum kept him busy with treats whilst I did what I needed to do.

Arlo had the full works, an introductory groom including a brush through, nails clipped, eyes and ears cleaned plus he had a sanitary trim and a bib trim and a few mats removed.

He was absolutely super for his first ever groom. Looking forward to next time Arlo 😻

3rd up today, Molly the Persian.

Molly had to have a lion cut today due to being too badly matted all over.

She only tried to have a nibble of me a couple of times whilst clipping her mats off so win win. Unfortunately I couldn't even keep a tip on her tail as it was all matted too.

Afterwards, she chased her tail round and round in circles. It was sooo funny. I wish I'd gotten a video of her. 🙊

Her dad just sent me these pictures of her sat on him. I promise she is definitely happy even if her face doesn't show it 😆.

2nd up today was 12 year old Norwegian Forest cat, Puk.

Puk was a gentle giant. He was a little anxious at first and cuddled into his dad's arm but once a few mats were taken off he settled down. He even purred on some occasions. Of course the treats helped too.

Puk had a full groom today with quite a few pesky mats removed around his bottom, hips, chest and stomach. He was soo good with letting me get it all off though.

We think Puk is at an age where he just needs a little help with grooming himself now.

I promise, I have been working the last 2 weeks 😂 I just haven't been posting.

Matted cat month this month me thinks. It's that time of year again when cats lose their summer coat in replacement for their winter coats and those pesky little mats just creep up on us.

First up today, newbie - Rex .

Rex was taken in by his new owners recently. Today Rex had his first ever groom. He can be a bit feisty so we were cautious and worked slowly and calmly with him. He had a couple of mats removed from down his spine which revealed a small puncture would underneath one.

Mats can often hide wounds and conditions and sometimes need a vet to have a look at them.

Rex was fantastic on my table and his parents were really surprised. He loved the lick e lix and they were a fantastic distraction to help with grooming him.

Rex is booked in for his next groom as his cat parents want to get him to help him used to being handled.

With the change in season I'm seeing a lot of cats getting a bit more matted than usual. Dig out those combs and brushes...

With the change in season I'm seeing a lot of cats getting a bit more matted than usual. Dig out those combs and brushes people and get brushing your kitties. 😺

Up today we had newbie Greek cat - Tiger. (Pic 1) Tiger has huge puppy dog eyes and is such a softie bless him. He's 13 years old and had his first ever groom and nail clip today. He did super well and he's already booked in for his next groom. 🥰

Duchess had a good few mats around her tummy, bottom and inside of legs so she had a full tummy shave as well as a good brush through of all of her coat. I didn't get a pic of her today as she decided to run off upstairs afterwards.

Hilda, (Pic 2,3) her sister had too many mats to deal with so had to have a full lion cut today, bless her. She's had one done at the vets before under sedation but this was her first one without being sedated. She did excellently with it. Duchess and Hilda are both used to me now so are generally fine with all aspects of grooming. They are on a 6 week schedule to keep on top of their coats.

Freya 🐈 - you are so photogenic but also a bit like jekyll and hyde 🙀😹

Today you were such a sweetie and didn't want to leave my table, completely different to last time.

I think this is the 4th groom for Freya. She had a large mat removed from her chest and a full groom. Her coat is looking amazing and she actually enjoys being brushed now. She has come on soo much and now takes it all in her stride.

I've been having a break from social media recently but I could not resist this post. 🤗

My first Sphynx cats, Remus (right) and Mia (left) 🥰. Such sweet natured, affectionate and happy cats.

Remus and Mia have just recently been taken in by their new owners and they needed a little help with how to care for them.

Sphynx cats get oily skin. The oils also build up in their nails and ears so they need a regular degreasing bath.

Remus and Mia were both absolute stars for their first bath with me and they have settled into their new home really well. I can't wait to see them again. 🥰 😺

Gorgeous, inquisitive, sweet Holly 😺 had her maintenance groom with me the other day. Her mum wanted to get her sorted out before she welcomes a new baby to the household. 🍼

Holly has fur like cotton wool that mats really easily. She had the full works including a few mats cut out of the usual places, and a nice, short sanitary trim.

I got some head butts from her, a lick on the cheek and she scoffed 3 lick e lix whilst I sorted her out.

Now her mum can concentrate on the new arrival and not worry about Holly's coat for a while.

🎃 October should be a month for celebrating all our lovely black cats 🐈 out there. Like beautiful Heidi here. 🥰

Heidi is 18 years and 10 months old. She didn't have the easiest of lives, growing up on the streets for a while, until she found her furever home. She can still be a bit feisty even now in her grand old age, but she has had to be, to survive.

I have been doing Heidi's claws and fur Tufts for about 8 months now. She is not a fan and protests vocally usually, but this week, after a good brush through and claw clip, she didn't run away from me, she stayed and had a treat 🥰 and then wanted more, and even posed for a photo. Progress!! 😺

Her mums take such good care of her needs. She has diabetes and the vets now think dementia, bless her but she still goes on chilling on her chair in the sun.

Look what a beautiful girl she is.

It was matted bottom season again for these three little tinkers yesterday! 🙊🙀😹

First it was Izzy's turn for her usual sanitary trim and brush through when a mat was discovered on her back leg fur. 😬

Then Darius was not best pleased with us poking around his nether-regions to get some nasty mats off, but he quickly forgave me by eating me out of lick e lix, (6) to be exact, at the same time. 😋

Finally Tibs had the same issue, which is also normal for him to get a few around there this time of year. Tibs, bless him, was a massive drama king and absolutely detested anywhere near his bottom being touched and fought us all the way. He eventually calmed down and had some treats and catnip afterwards. 🥰

And that's my promise for the weekend kept! Time to go to school 🏫 for a few days. Over and out! 🎤 😺

As promised 😁 here's all the pics from today's grooms.
First I met cheeky lad Murphy for his first claw clip with me. His mum has only managed to get his claws clipped once in his lifetime as he can be a little feisty. It took an hour but he finally gave in and then lay in front of the door and wouldn't let me leave 😂
Next was Tyler and Elsa (tabbies) for their 2nd claw clip. Elsa rolled and rolled and chirruped and chirruped in catnip afterwards. 🥰

Third up was the lovely Baggy (black) who had the hedgehog look going on down his back....... not anymore!! 😊

And finally Lola, the teeny tiny black and white lady for a claw clip and mat removal.

More to come tomorrow!!!! Now it's 😴 time.

Molly, the Persian, had her 1st groom with me today. Her dad thought it might have to be a lion cut but I managed to save all of the fur on top of her body, as you can see. 😊 This will always be my first option for any cat I groom, I do not do lion cuts lightly. I spot shaved quite a few nasty mats from her ears, chin, chest, arm pits, groin, tummy and bottom, gave her tummy a full shave, gave her remaining fur a full brush through, clipped her claws and finished her off with giving her eyes and ears a really good clean. She enjoyed a lik e lix treat to finish. We've got her on a 6 weekly schedule now to try and keep on top of her beautiful coat so she can enjoy rolling around in the garden with her dad. 😊

Some sad news today, Pepsi's mum phoned me to let me know he has crossed the rainbow bridge. 🌈 😢 He was a 19 year old main coon that I had the pleasure of meeting twice for his nails clipped. Fly high little one. 😢
