I've seen a few matted cats this past week. Some old that have stopped grooming, some who should be groomed regularly by human intervention.

Here we have Merlin, a 13 year old domestic long haired, who was matted all over his body with some really tight and painful ones on his hips.

A lion cut was the only option due to the extent of the matting.

He really enjoyed his treats whilst I got to work and afterwards he sat and began grooming himself everywhere.

The only problem was that afterwards the dog didn't recognize him and became a little upset. 😢. This is one of the things that can happen unfortunately when a cat needs to be clipped short. He will be fine in a day or two once he realizes it's still Merlin.

I think Merlin may need some help with his grooming needs going forward to prevent this from happening again.

Cute little Dobbie, the oriental, had his usual claw clip with me this afternoon.

Dobbie is 17 months old and isn't afraid to wrestle with his big brothers - Maine c***s, in fact he shows them what for!

Luckily, orientals don't need much maintenance except a quick claw clip as they only have a thin layer of coat. Their claws do grow really long though so these need keeping on top of so he has a claw clip usually every 6 weeks.

This gorgeous girl, Mischief 🥰 was on my grooming table this evening.

Mischief is the grand old age of 18 and had gotten a few mats on her chest and trousers so I clipped these out first then gave her a sanitary trim and trouser trim, a good brush and an eye and ear clean.

No claw clip for this little lady though as she still likes to jump out of the window and go for a wander outside so she'll need those murder mittens to protect herself.

I got to meet a really cute chilled out kitten called Tom today for his first ever claw clip. It didn’t phase him whatsoever. He even came to say hi to you all afterwards!

I can’t say he will be called Tom next time though as his child owners were having a bit of a disagreement about the name so watch this space for next time!

Angel is a 15 year old Maine c**n girl and she had her 2nd groom with me today.

She had a few large mats removed on her chest, arm pits, groin and hips and a good de-shed of the rest of her coat. She also had a sanitary trim, claw clip and an eye and ear clean.

Her coat was super silky and soft afterwards and she lay for her photo shoot. Afterwards, she sat and gave herself a wash before going back to bed in her new cosy place.

Sweet girl Thelma is 18 years young and had become a little matted for the first time this year. Now she is mat free. ☺️...

A couple of recent grooms. We have little old lady Tabitha. Tabitha is an American Ragdoll cross and had her first groom with me the other day.

Her coat was so beautiful with really interesting colours and markings but it was starting to look a little hedgehog-like. 🦔 Thankfully, I was able to comb it all out. She enjoyed playing with the Silvervine and getting lots of fussing in between and then went to bed for a long snooze once it was over. She had her claws clipped and her eyes and ears cleaned too. 😺

Ernie, the persian had his 3rd groom with me. Ernie's coat was coming back through nicely after he had to have a lion cut back in January due to matting. Today, Ernie had a maintenance groom plus a tummy trim as this is the area that starts to mat first. I also trimmed his super long and fluffy toe tufts to help prevent him skidding around. He enjoyed his groom today and lay in a loaf and purred. 😺

It's been a while, I've been so busy with grooming 🐈 cats I've forgotten to post recently but I had to introduce you to Oscar from today's grooms.

Oscar is a 4yr old teeny tiny Maine c**n boy, which is really unusual as the males are usually mahusive. He is the most placid sweet boy I've ever met 🥰 and he was such a perfect role model considering this was his first ever groom.

Oscar had a few tricky mats and super greasy wirey long fur so his mum wanted to start again from scratch so today he had a lion cut.

Afterwards he even posed for some photos and became inquisitive with my equipment having a good sniff about.

I think he secretly liked his first ever groom, especially the treats and the fussing. He purred and purred on my table and wasn't scared at all.

Seb the 8 yr old Maine c**n had his 2nd groom with me yesterday.

I love his colouring and temperament, he's such a big softy. 🥰 😺

Seb loves to be outside lying in the garden in the sun so he gets all sorts stuck in his coat.

Seb had the full works including a few mats removed including lots of sticky jacks and bits of leaves and plants, but nowhere near as many as last time, a full de - shed, a sanitary trim, his claws clipped and his ears cleaned.

I also removed a tick which was on his ear, which his mum didn't know was there, now she knows what to look out for.

Seb is on my 8 week maintenance grooms programme which means he gets 10% off the usual price if he stays regular. It also means his coat stays in tip top condition and as mat free as possible.
