As we prepare for the new year I want to share Roxy’s story.
A picture can speak a thousand words. She cried as they left the room, I promised her they would be back.
Roxy arrived 3 weeks ago, poor skin, thin, cropped ears, overbred but so loving and affectionate.
11 babies with her, a big litter for a mum who had so little to give.
Give she did though, she has been the most amazing mum, patient, kind and so incredibly gentle.
1 by 1 she’s lost her babies, a heart wrenching time for her and our puppy unit team.
As volunteers you become so invested in every single animal, they become our own and we love them dearly.
It’s been a tough few days, in and out of vets trying all we can to help the remaining pups to live, if love could have let them stay they would have lived.
Christmas morning we were back with Amber, Roxy had 2 pups left, we have no answers, no reason why, I supppose sometimes life just happens, nature has a hard edge that we just can’t change.
Sadly after a long morning we got the news we just didn’t want to hear or to believe, we lost little mistletoe and Rudolph.
These babies were so precious, we’ve gone through a mix of emotions, from hope, despair, sadness and tears.
Rescue is hard, rescue brings pain and grief.
Their little lives may of been short but we couldn’t have loved them more.
Please keep Roxy in your thoughts, she’s not too well herself and is deeply upset with her loss.
Please please spay and neuter your dogs, we have so many without the homes, simply not enough homes for the volume of dogs that need them.
To our puppy unit team and our vets who tried so hard, thank you doesn’t seem enough.
Here’s to a brighter year ahead for our animals, a time of hope, hope that things will change, people will realise that their lives matter that they deserve the very best.
That people will try harder to make things work and not give up at the first hurdle, because their love for us is unconditional.
Sleep tight little ones , I’m sorry we couldn’t save you. 💔
