We want to start the year off with a big THANK YOU ☺️

Over the last month, our staff have been overwhelmed at the Christmas gifts and cards that have been brought into the clinic as a thank you for looking after your pets. It is an absolute privilege to be entrusted with the care of your animals, and we love to see each and every one coming through the door ❤️

Separate from this, we launched our annual shoebox appeal a few weeks before Christmas. Your generosity again was very much appreciated, and all the food and toys were collected by Play for Strays on New Years Eve. They will be distributed to those who need them most over the next couple of weeks 😊

So from all of us at Jubilee, a heartfelt thank you for your generosity and kindness 🥰

🎅 We have it on good authority from the World Veterinary Association that Santa’s reindeer have all passed their health checks and are fit and well for flying to Newtownards this evening! 🎅

🎅 Tis the season to be jolly, but in a veterinary practice, tis also the season for increased cases of induced vomiting and toxicity 🎅

We have put together some of the more common foods that we see causing problems over the festive period ranging from risk of toxicity to choking hazards.

Follow our top tips for a safer festive period for all 🥰

✅ Keep food out of reach of pets
✅ Inform your guests not to feed your pets without permission
✅ Make sure Santa is the only one who can access his mince pie on Christmas Eve
✅ A sudden change in diet, such as rich table scraps, has the potential to cause gastrointestinal upset to any animal
✅ Rich and fatty foods can trigger pancreatitis
✅ Bones are choke hazards

The safest thing for your pets is to stick to their normal feeding routine. Nobody wants a trip to the vet on Christmas Day! 😵‍💫

😍 Meet Basil 😍

Yesterday we welcomed 12 week old boxer puppy Basil to the JVC family!

He was almost impossible to get a photograph of because he’s such a happy and bouncy boy, but he was good as gold for his health check with Vet Emma G 🥰

Meet Archie! 🥰

Archie is an older boy at 12.5 years old, and is one of our regulars who has been coming to Jubilee for a long time to help manage his arthritis 🫶🏻

Arthritis is a degenerative disease which sadly cannot be cured, but it can be managed!

Archie’s family uses a multi modal approach to manage his condition, meaning they look at the whole puzzle and not just one piece of it 🧩

Some of Archie’s management includes;

✅ Pain relief
✅ Monthly arthritis injection
✅ K-Laser therapy
✅ Acupuncture
✅ Physio
✅ Maintaining a healthy weight to reduce pressure on joints

⚠️ Storm Warning ⚠️

We are in for a stormy weekend, so just a reminder of our top pet tips to keep everybody safe;

🐶 Ensure garden gates/fences etc have not blown open before letting dogs out to the garden.

🐱 Keep cats indoors where possible.

🐶🐱 Have a radio playing to keep wind noise down, close the curtains too.

🐰 Are small furries secure? If not, or you aren’t sure, bring them inside.

🐶🐱🐰 If you think your pet will be frightened, stay home with them.

🐶 Avoid dog walking until the worst has passed, and keep on a lead incase the dog gets frightened and bolts.

🐶🐱 Are your microchip details up to date if your pet was to run away?

🚗 Take extra care when driving. A frightened cat or dog will not have any road sense. Expect the unexpected!

My name is Lauren and I am a veterinary nurse here at Jubilee 😊

I am a fully registered veterinary nurse (RVN), and have been nursing for over 8 years!

Nursing has so many elements to it, and I find them all very interesting. Emergency care and wound management are of particular interest to me, so if you see a patient going home with a creative bandage.... that was probably me!

Something that I am passionate about is patient experience. I want every animal to feel comfortable coming to visit the practice which is why I am delighted to have introduced confidence clinics.

Confidence clinics are available to all patients of all ages, they are nurse led and are free of charge. We will build up slowly at a pace that is comfortable for your pet, with the outcome being a much happier animal both in a clinical setting and receiving an examination from one of the clinical team.

The process will be different for every animal, and the time frame will vary. All we ask is that you remain dedicated to the process because you will be amazed with the results 🥰

Sometimes this means the dose will be half or even a quarter of a tablet at a time, and that means cutting tablets.
