We currently have some spaces open within the rescue.

I am able to currently take up to 5 sows, 2 boars (more if cages can be provided)

We do currently also have 2 loan boars looking for homes currently if anyone is interested in adopting.
These boys need to find a friend that they can be bonded with.

Meet Pumpkin

He was a last minute rescue who came from someone who had bad allergies to him and his friend Barney (Barney will be shown later).

He came to in, I was aware of his skin condition. However unfortunately Pumpkin has Scabies.

What is Scabies? And what does it entail on a guinea pigs small body & system?

We’ll scabies is a mite similar to those mites that humans get which forms scabies.
The mites are extremely small and spider-like pests, which cause extreme irritation & hair loss.
As you can see, it has spread over 50% of Pumpkins little body.
I am unsure on how long he has been dealing with his condition. But I know that I need to get it under control before it gets any worse.

I am taking my precautions of course, as scabies is zoonotic and can be passed from animal to human. Fortunately, scabies in guinea pigs rarely does spread to humans. But the precautions need for be made just not for me and my family. But also our other guineas and pets.

Pumpkin, sadly will be having to live on his own until he is cleared from his condition. Which means Barney and Pumpkin will be separated, and hopefully will be bonded back to normal. Once it has all cleared 💜

He is sadly not the first Guinea I have had in the rescue with scabies. But this is definitely less severe then what I have seen in my years of rescuing.

After a lot of messages currently coming through over the last few months via text/voicemail, email and on here, I thought I would put out something that I haven’t.

I did decide to close the rescue due to a few reasons.
I don’t currently attend to open the rescue again for the foreseen future. But maybe one day I will. That said unsure if it would be the UK or in the US.

I will continue to help with advice and keep the page open and running to be able to help those in need with Guinea advice, and I can help you find another rescue/sanctuary either for adoption or Rehoming.

I do still have a foster carer who has alot of guineas still looking for homes. However we do not rehome over the Christmas period due to so many guineas/and other animals going into rescues around this time of the year or even they come back in the new year.
We will only rehome if there is a loan guineas who is desperately in need of a friend.

Again, I will continue to help those who need it for advice.

I personally now only have 4 cavies, and those are the last 4 rescue piggies who couldn’t find homes.
As I said in a previous post, a friend took of the cavies that I had within the rescue/my own. And she has kept them with her. With me only having 2 who decided to escape their pen and were roaming my garden. They are now penned and living with another sow who came to me, and a loan boar who lives near the girls.

Hello we are Maisie & Mollie 💜💜

These two beautiful girls have been with me for a while. They’ve just not been adopted and it breaks our heart.

Us girls are timid, but do love cuddles once you have ahold of them. Maisie does like to scream at the top of her lungs when she’s picked up but has got a lot better since she first came to me.

We are still looking for their forever home.
If you can offer them their forever home, please let me know.
But we do require someone with plenty of experience with guinea pigs 💜

Mr. Twitch is still looking for his forever home 💙

He would happily live next to some piggies, so he can communicate with them.
He does enjoy living by himself and popcorns often around the cage & when out in the grass.

He’s roughly 2 years old, and is full of character.

Unfortunately cost of castration is just through the roof in our area and with me not driving I can’t travel to find a cheaper place.

Mel, Mollie, Maisie & Twitch all enjoying some sunshine and grass this afternoon. Waiting for it to be a bit cooler and sunshine wasn’t hitting the front of the house do them to go out to mow some of the grass down 😂

Mr.Twitch

I am now looking for a new home, ideally by myself but around other guinea pigs.
Unfortunately I do not get on with other male guineas, leaving me in the position of having to live on my own.
Unfortunately castration is currently too expensive for the rescue to maintain.

I am a very outgoing boy, but I do shy when you open the cage. However I absolutely love cuddles once you have ahold of me.

We are raising funds for Twitch’s castration. Which we have been quoted the most of £150 😱
How castration is now that much I do not know.

However, Twitch unfortunately does not get along with boars. And we do not want him living alone for the rest of his life. So we are raising funds to help with the castration cost!

But any other money raised will go into the aftercare of Twitch.

💜 FOSTER CARER APPRECIATION POST 💜

This is Sarah, I personally have known Sarah since I was 12 years old, and I’m 26 this May 😱

I met her through helping her out in her pet shop until I was 18 years old.
This has gone into a long standing friendship, and sort of Mother/Daughter bond between us.
She’s always there for me, and helps with the rescue.

Sarah has currently got a lot of rescue boars ranging with all ages looking for homes.
Most are bonded/paired. With the occasional sow looking for a home also.

I’ve been so busy lately I forgot to mention that we have been chosen as a Charity of the Month by the fabulous Bunnies That Lunch

Currently the guineas are living with a friend due to the revamping of the garden. But the donations we will receive will go straight to them 🥰

I’ve been lacking a lot with social media while trying to keep my currently well-being and mental health. With not having my piggies at home apart from 2, I just haven’t posted much.
But hoping once the garden is all complete after all this awful weather and forecasted weather I will be back with posting more 😄

CLOSURE OF THE RESCUE

We will be closing through March to May (roughly) for maintenance being done on our garden & drive way.

We will keep everyone updated on when we aim to open again.
When we reopen, we will then be open until the Christmas closure of 2024.
We will then be closed fully due to location move.
Unless we can find someone to take the rescue on themselves to carry it on. However we will not be looking until we reopen for a new manager for Pigateers R&R.

All piggies in my current care will become residents, and stay with me until we reopen.

Raffle will continue until end of March. I will get back to the people who have messaged last week about entering.
Don’t forget it’s 50p a ticket, and lots of wonderful prizes to be won!

Someone wanted puppy photos!

So here are some photos of my puppies 🥰

6 beautiful cocker spaniel puppies, of which the black boy is staying and is called Sonic.

They are mini raptors atm, and love to nibble at my shoes ankles and anything they can get ahold of.

Have had a hectic day.
Was meant to collect 5 guineas who were dumped on a vets door, went on the way and they said that they had contacted another rescue who were picking them up. So we didn’t end up with them in the end.

BABIES!!!

Snowball gave birth in the daytime while I was at work on Tuesday. Arrived home to 4 bundle of cuties.
Leaving us with 7 pups! 4 girls & 3 boys

We have 3 boys (all white) and 1 girl.

Who wants to name them?

For name the piggy, we are gonna do a donation poll. So send a small donation to name the chosen piggy that you want.

So we were just contacted by someone who adopted some guineas from us..

In response she sadly lost one of the Guineas and had to have her PTS. She asked for her adoption fee back. This being well over 1 week of our contract on our pre adoption form stating.
I refused the adoption fee to be sent back. Because it states that in the form.

I suggested that if she wishes when we have a single sow up for adoption she could have a compatible guinea. She refused and accused me of telling her to “replace her” which i in no mean said that word. I said “however I am happy for you to choose a piggy that could be compatible with you. We currently have no single guineas available”.. but if she would of let me finish what I was then about to write instead of jumping to conclusion and getting rude. Then things could of ended differently.

Please just remember that we are a NON-PROFT RESCUE. I pay solely and mainly out of my own pocket. The adoption fee does not cut to vet treatment, feed, bedding etc.

May I just remind people that we have this contract for a reason. For this exact reason.

If you wish to get rude and nasty to us, then we do not want to hear from you.

She signed this contract (have hidden her name), agreeing to all of our T&C when signing the contract.

We do not appreciate being spoken to in such a manner and then trying to use something that was out of our control (after loosing the 9 boys that we did back in December).

We have our protocols like every other rescue does. I.e, quarantining, vet checks, health check, pre-adoption form, and finding the right home for each Guinea Pig.

But sadly as being a rescue we do get these sort of people, that just expect us to pay or help pay towards a treatment. You haven’t taken on that pet.

We sadly do not get the donations or funding like the RSPCA or BATTERSEA, or any larger rescue centre in the UK.

Please remember to be polite and considerate. I am a 1 women team trying to run this rescue. Along with having a toddler, working 20+ hours and the pets, as well as the rescue.

This is sadly the 3rd time I’ve come across a person who has wanted to be rude to me. And I will not stand for it. Think before you send a message. Because things can really hurt someone.

~ Ginger: 8 Month old, with 3 babies born through the night. Babies are 3 sows, Spice, Cinnamon & Salt
~ Snowball: 8 months old, heavily pregnant. Due to pop anyday
~ Duggie: 8 month old

We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas 🎄 and will be enjoying boxing day’s bubble & squeak.

We wanted to post a little note about something that happened overnight in the 24th.

So on the 23rd early morning I went out and fed all piggies gave them all the things I do normally hay food water etc. I also gave them veggies as I wouldn’t see them until the next day morning as work was extremely hectic.

I went out to feed everyone on the 24th, and unfortunately found 9 boys had passed away. Totally unsure why. They all had food & water and lots of hay. Veggies were still in the cage also.
Sadly these 9 boys were Colin & Harry, Donald, Remus & Sirus and Turmeric (my own boy), Orro, Walter & Triumph.
Everyone else is well and fine, non of them had any underlying conditions, which is what baffled me. Donald was due to see the vets this week with his brother Duck. But I gave him the clear myself.
I’m not sure if it was the quick -10° to 12° sudden change in the weather. But they all handled the cold really well and had no issues.

It’s a sad few days for me, digging such a big hole to bury them in.

All the remaining boys are booked to see the vet to see what she says.

We have bonded Duck & Cedric together both being around 1/2 years old, and they have bonded great with each other.

Apart from the sad news, I had a lovely Christmas with my daughter, partner & partners friend.
All piggies loved the left over veggies from dinner.

We have some happy news and some sad news

So the happy news, I shall start with first.
3 long term Rescue girls Tiana, Belle & Ariel got adopted today (on the space of them being reserved before our Christmas closure). Theyve been with us for a long time, and they have come such a long way! So happy to see them go to a wonderful home 💕

Sad news, is to do with the boys below. Another rescue asked if we could take in some emergency piggies!

Meet Oli & Gypsy

Oli, is the first pig. He is a 7 Y/O, who sadly has a reoccurring eye issue. With not knowing much background, we are unsure how long it’s been going on, or if we can treat it.
We are hoping to be able to get the bottom of the cause, but it could be down to a cyst behind his eye. Which will mean eye removal, which is normaly our last step!

Gypsy on the other hand is a 2 Y/O boar, and is healthy from what we can tell.

The boys live together. Sadly they were surrendered due to a struggling parent.

Dawn over at Nibbles and Squeaks rescue got them in her care currently. And they will be coming to us once we have arranged for them to get to us.
