It is with much sadness that we say this, we were hoping to see how things went in the new year but with more bills coming in by the dayโฆ
It looks like come the end of February the farm may have to close. The cost of running it is at an all time high, and the donations are at an all time low. Everyone knows the issues we had with gaining funding this year, the donations we gratefully received from companies has definitely helped maintain us for now, and for a couple more months, but after that the money will have run out. Itโs costing us roughly ยฃ200 every couple of weeks for food and around ยฃ500 every 3 weeks for hay and straw, and thatโs just the basics. Add in electricity, gas, vet bills, farrier and dentist bills, repairs, and all the other wee bits that go along with having animals - the costs are astronomical! And with it being a very wet winter weโre going through more than we would a cold one- canโt have the animals lying in wet beds! Our animals are rescued and retired, although the farm has never and will never be paved with gold we give all of the animals here the best possible care that we can.
Unfortunately visitors are at an all time low too, therefore donations coming in the gate are minimal, and a lot of people visiting canโt afford to leave any donation. Weโll never turn away a visitor based on being able to donate or not donate, but the huge reduction in visitors and donations does begin to leave the farm in jeopardy. Combined with the minimal grants received we really are at a loss as to what to do. Thatโs why we said after the vandalism โif we reopenโ. We donโt want to close our gates, after nearly 47 years, but may have no choice.
We have a bagpack organised next Saturday for Morrisons, and weโre planning a bake sale and one of our ex volunteers has set up a go fund me to try and raise money. What no one realises is that the animal feeds go up in winter, especially with the bigger animals that arenโt getting the goodness out of grass.
Weโre sorry to put this on during the festive period but between the fire, vandalism, robbery, and everything else thrown at us this year we are at our wits end and have no idea of where to turn. And morale is at an all time low here, we really are struggling ๐ข
If everyone that follows us could donate even ยฃ1 it would help so much! Either through the go fund me, PayPal ([email protected]) or by bank transfer (pm for details).
Thanks to everyone for the years of support that weโve received, keep us in your prayers for the future.
