ENRICHMENT

Some really good and essential information for those that struggle finding something for their dogs to do in the house....

Believe you me, it is mind-blowing how these activities get your dogs to settle after these activities....

🎦⚠️

Watch and listen to the 8 mins video... Not edited... as it is in real life...
Especially listen to Louis's noises enjoying every activity...

👍😊

Dogs are social, intelligent and active animals. So, it’s important to provide them with safe and suitable opportunities to exercise their bodies and minds, during every stage of life.

This is where enrichment comes in – but what is it?

🐾The benefits

✅Enables dogs to explore and use their natural instincts,
✅Can prevent boredom,
✅build confidence,
✅teach a variety of skills such as problem-solving, searching and agility.
✅Allows them to sniff and chew appropriately.
✅Ideal way to manage their energy,
✅Encouraging calmer behaviour and
✅Help them to learn good habits.

Enrichment should be provided daily and can throughout the day.

If your pup gets over excited, you can get out the snuffle mat. Alternatively, if you want to keep them occupied while you are having dinner, give your dog an enrichment toy with some of their food inside. This will help to keep them safe and prevent them from chewing on things they shouldn’t – such as your favourite pair of slippers!

Enrichment also helps to prevent mouthing. While it is normal for puppies to do this, you need to help them learn what is appropriate for them to chew on.

🐾Choosing the best enrichment for your dog

When planning and choosing enrichment, it’s important to:

✅ensure any enrichment is safe and suitable (non-toxic and appropriately sized.
✅No foreign body hazards which could result in trauma to the mouth, throat or gastrointestinal tract)
✅consider the individual dog, including their health, abilities and dietary needs
think about their preferences – what do they like and dislike
✅watch how they interact with the enrichment.

?? Ask yourself ??

✅Are they engaged?
✅Do they seem to be enjoying it?
✅Do they seem confused or frustrated? ✅What can you change next time?
✅If it’s too difficult or I see signs of frustration, how can I make it easier?’

🐾Types of enrichment

✅Food based
✅Scent based
✅Toys
✅ Environmental enrichment

🐾Don’t forget:

As important as it is to provide enrichment for your dog, it’s equally as important that you incorporate time to rest into their daily routine – especially while they are still a puppy

Do watch out, icy conditions is really detrimental to our four legged friends and can also result in serious injuries. Especially muscle and ligament injuries 😓

I found a new four legged friend in Belgium.
This is Luna. An adorable miniature pinscher ❤️ So small, so fragile looking.

Many people underestimate the care, time, and effort needed in order to raise a Miniature Pinscher. The Miniature Pinscher is an assertive, outgoing, active, and independent breed.

They are good watchdogs, as they are alert and wary of strangers.

Miniature Pinschers are a stubborn breed when it comes to training, but once trained they will obey commands well.

Great for agility!!

Patsy, a Maltese dog use to be extremely reactive with people and other dogs..
This is our 3rd session now where we are increasing the level of difficulty.

The last time we went in a cafe and now we managed to go into a Park and even off lead at the end 😱👌

The most challenging thing about it was giving the owner confidence to let go 😁😅

I have great expectations ♥️

This is 'Cheddar' and 'Gabby'. Both have different owners but have things in common.

✅They are both rescue dogs. One with a fear of dogs and the other a fear of humans.
✅No historical information on neither of the dogs.

Here is a brief snippet video of them both... Cheddar, the Lab was quite Happy walking around people after spending 1/2 hrs doing some counter conditioning work and making some adjustments with the owner.

Gabby, on the other hand was used to breed puppies and as soon as this didn't work, she was rehomed.. clearly a lot of psychological issues but has only been with the new owner 7 weeks and doing amazing.

The root cause of her fear of dogs are unknown but after seeing this video footage, and spending time in this first session, she was finally able to relax with Gasper who was so patient with her.

A little patience and simply incorporating the right treatment helps to get the results you need!

There is ALWAYS HOPE! Even with rescue dogs or old dogs...

A big thank you for Tom and Claire providing a positive review of some if the work I have done with reactivity and Seperation anxiety.

As I said before Feedback is critical for your own development and to make surenyou are meeting Customers expectations.

Quick fixes do happen but most of the time you will find that it is a team effort between the trainer/behaviourist, the owner and the dog. It is a wonderful sense of achievement for the owners to know they have contributed to the successful outcome ♥️
