We are proud to keep abreast of the most up to date treatment options for pets - many of these are designed to reduce the reliance on traditional long term medications and improve patient quality of life. One of these developing areas is Regenerative Medicine - using the bodies own cells to regenerate damaged tissue. We are proud to be able to offer Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy and Stem Cell Therapy to our patients. These regenerative medicine techniques enable harvesting of cells from the patients own blood or bone marrow which can then be placed into areas to reduce inflammation, provide pain relief and improve healing. These techniques help our patients to recover faster, reduce reliance on medication and live more comfortable lives. Common uses include cruciate ligament rupture, osteoarthritis, elbow dysplasia, large wounds and tendon ruptures. If you would like to know more about the exciting regenerative medicine options available for our patients give us a call on 01692 407126

Are you planning to take your pet abroad? Did you know that pet dogs, cats and ferrets travelling abroad now require an Animal Health Certificate. These Certificates can only be issues by Government authorised vets. We are pleased to one of a small number of local practices able to offer this service to our clients. The timing of these certificates and the associated Rabies vaccinations is critical so if you would like to find out more give our friendly team a call on 01692 407126

Meet Ben and Cora! This gorgeous duo came to visit us when their owner noticed they were having some problems with their hind dew claws. Not every dog is born with hind dew claws and sometimes dogs with these claws find them very problematic. Ben and Cora had a difficult start to life as rescue pups and found having treatment to their hind dew claws very stressful. They were superstar patients with our team and have become firm favourites. They have recovered really well and are now enjoying a lot of TLC and love in their forever home.

HAPPY EASTER TO ALL OUR CLIENTS AND PETS! We hope you are all having a safe and enjoyable Easter period. Don't forget our 24/7 onsite emergency service remains available to our clients throughout Easter if you need us. Here are our top tips for staying safe this Easter :
Despite being delicious to us, chocolate, candies and hot cross buns are toxic for our pets. Chocolate contains theobromine, a stimulant similar to caffeine that is poisonous for pets and its ingestion can lead to death. The darker the chocolate, the higher the concentration of this toxic substance, so keep all chocolates in a secure place. Many sugar free gums and candies contain xylitol, a sugar substitute that is highly toxic to pets causing a dramatic reduction in blood glucose and seizures. Hot cross buns are also dangerous. These contain raisins, currants or sultanas, which can cause kidney failure to our furry friends.
It is not just food that is dangerous, lilies are extremely hazardous to cats. All parts of the plant are toxic and if cats ingest it, it can lead to kidney failure. This can happen even if cats take only a small nibble on one or two petals or if they groom lily pollen off their fur or paws.
Keep your pet safe and have a happy Easter!

Following recent BBC news stories highlighting concerns within the Corporate Veterinary marked we would like to reassure our clients that we are, and will remain, an independent family run practice serving our local community. We are proud to remain one of only a handful of independent practices in Norfolk who are not part of a Corporate group or part of a large group of multi site practices.

We believe this offers our clients and patients important benefits. We remain a small friendly team who offer the highest standards of pet care without any incentives to meet targets and can keep our costs as competitive as possible. We are not limited in the drugs and equipment we can purchase. We can continue to invest in new state of the art facilities such as our laser therapy unit, onsite CT scanner and onsite luxury pet hotel. Our small team allows us to provide better continuity of care and helps us get to know you and your pets and tailor treatment plans to their specific needs. If you would like to know more about how we can help care for your pet please give us a call on 01692 407126

Easter is almost here and we are all eager to eat that chocolate bunny or those hot cross buns. However, Easter and the traditions surrounding it pose several dangers for our pets. It is important to know them in order to keep your pet healthy and safe through the holiday and beyond.

Many sugar free gums and candies contain xylitol, a sugar substitute that is highly toxic to pets and causes a dramatic reduction in blood glucose resulting in seizures. Hot cross buns are also dangerous. These contain raisins, currants or sultanas, which can cause kidney failure to our furry friends.

It is not just food that is dangerous, lilies are extremely hazardous to cats. All parts of the plant are toxic and if cats ingest even a small amount of the plant or pollen it can lead to kidney failure.

We hope you and your pets stay safe this Easter but just in case you need us our on site 24/7 on site emergency service will be available to our clients throughout the festive period!
Keep your pet safe and have a happy Easter!

The importance of our Laboratory!!! At Toll Barn Vets we have an in house Laboratory which enables us to perform most blood, urine and microscopy tests in house. This offers several benefits to our patients, first of all we can diagnose and therefore treat conditions more quickly as we are able to obtain results within 30 minutes for emergency cases. Secondly, our analysers are carefully chosen to only require 0.1ml of blood. This is much less than the volume required by most in house and commercial laboratories and is important for exotic pets where only a tiny amount of blood can be sampled without detrimentally affecting our patients and is also beneficial to cats and dogs who are unwell as it means the sampling is much quicker (and therefore less stressful) and we avoid worsening any underlying anaemia. Our staff regularly undertake training to ensure we get the most out of our equipment, including our laboratory ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Easter Dangers
With Easter approaching please remember to keep pets away from the seasonal dangers. Easter eggs are enjoyable to us and very tasty to inquisitive pets. Chocolate can be toxic to our furry friends so please make sure you keep it well out of reach. Lillies also pose a high risk of kidney failure if eaten - this includes eating the pollen on their coat if they brush against the flowers. The earlier toxic issues are treated the better so if you have concerns that your pet has ingested something potentially toxic please give us a call on 01692 407126. Our vets and nurses remain available to help keep your pets safe 24/7.

CRYOTHERAPY! Cryotherapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses extreme cold to eliminate abnormal skin tissue such as warts and lesions. Unlike traditional surgery, there is no cutting involved. This user-friendly technique has been used for centuries in human medicine and is now commonly employed in veterinary practice. The precision of the device minimises damage to healthy surrounding tissue. The freezing process is quick, typically taking only a few seconds. After freezing, the tissue is allowed to thaw before repeating the freezing process. Cryotherapy is generally considered non painful and can be performed conscious as long as the lesion isn't in close proximity to a sensitive area such as the eye. We regularly receive referrals from other practices for our cryotherapy service so if you would like to talk to us about the suitability of cryotherapy for your pet please contact us on 01692 407126
