Guinea Pig awareness week
Muesli style foods are like pick ’n’ mix for guinea pigs!
Guinea pigs often pick out the tastier pieces that are high in starch and sugar, leaving behind the healthier parts.
This selective feeding can lead to an unbalanced diet and health problems over time.
Guinea pigs can not make their own vitamin C, so they need to get this from their diet. It’s recommended to feed a small amount of high fibre, good quality nuggets each day, alongside unlimited fresh hay, greens and water.
A balanced diet = a healthy, happy piggy! If you would like some advice feel free to give our friendly team a call or book a free of charge clinic with our veterinary nurses

What is a CT Scan?
CT scanners use radiation in the same way as xrays but allow a complete 3D image with specialised software then allowing advanced reconstructions including 3D skeletal reconstructions, blood vessel reconstructions and soft tissue reconstructions.
CT scanners have thousands of applications within veterinary care and are the best (and sometimes only) method of diagnosing and assessing the best treatment options for some forms of orthopaedic disorders such as elbow dysplasia, complex fractures, bone tumours, limb growth deformities; tumour management including being more sensitive than conventional xray in the search for tumour metastases (spread) as well as assessing the 3D boundaries of the tumour to allow precise surgical removal; nasal disease including tumour, fungal infection, bacterial infection and foreign bodies; ear disease including middle ear disease; lung disease including infection, tumour, foreign bodies and trauma damage; neurological conditions including imaging of the spine, spinal cord and brain.
We are proud to be one of only a handful of practices to have an onsite CT scanner. Not all CT scanners are the same and our CT scanner is a very specialised machine which is able to image all species of pets from the smallest lizard to the largest dogs with slice thickness as small as 0.3mm! All our CT images are interpreted by Specialist Radiologists so you can be sure your pet is receiving the best possible care.
To find out more about our CT scanning service please contact the Toll Barn Vets team on 01692 407126

Thank you for your kind words, we believe in trying our hardest to help both the pets and wildlife within our community and are pleased we were able to help "I was very impressed with Toll Barn Vets today (not having used them before). I was directed to them by Wild Touch Rescue, as I had an injured wood pigeon in my garden. The Reception team were very helpful and the bird was examined by a compassionate vet within 2 minutes of me showing up! I will definitely be recommending this practice." A Cunningham

We are delighted to have already helped a large number of pets with our Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy and Stem Cell Therapy! These regenerative medicine techniques enable harvesting of cells from the patients own blood or bone marrow which can then be placed into areas to reduce inflammation, provide pain relief and improve healing. These techniques help our patients to recover faster, reduce reliance on medication and live more comfortable lives. There are some patients who suffer from osteoarthritis or damage to areas with poor blood supply such as tendons, ligaments and cartilage where healing is very slow and pain relief inadequate (or undesirable due to side effects). Common uses include cruciate ligament rupture, osteoarthritis, elbow dysplasia, large wounds and tendon ruptures. Once implanted these cells support the body in a natural way of regenerating these damaged areas and promote long term pain relief and mobility. It is especially useful in areas of chronic pain (such as osteoarthritis) and areas prone to scar tissue formation such as tendons. This is one of the many ways we can support our patients alongside (or instead of) medication to provide a greater level of mobility and pain relief. If you would like to know more about the exciting regenerative medicine options available for our patients give us a call on 01692 407126

Meet Otto! Otto came in to visit our team for castration and to have some troublesome deciduous (baby) teeth removed that were causing his adult teeth to grow in an abnormal angle risking permanent damage. Otto was very poorly as a kitten with a severe respiratory infection so his anaesthetic was tailored specifically to his needs to ensure he had a smooth anaesthetic and recovery. He is now back home enjoying some TLC
