Winter has arrived so if you have outdoor pets please think ahead so you are prepared. Here are a few tips on how you can help keep outdoor rabbits and guinea pigs warm over winter -
In the wild rabbits live in underground burrows where temperatures remain fairly constant during summer and winter, however, when we keep them outside and prevent them burrowing we need to ensure they have everything they need for the cold season:
• Hutches should be raised off the floor to allow air to circulate and prevent the base from becoming damp. They should be well ventilated, waterproof and protected from extreme temperatures.
• They must have a dry, warm bed area. If the hutch has a wide sleeping area it’s a good idea to place a cardboard box in it, with an entrance hole and straw for bedding.
• Even in winter rabbits need to exercise. They should be able to do so and they must be able to retreat to a warm sheltered area if they wish.
• We recommend keeping them in pairs. Bunnies are very social creatures and they are much happier if they have a fellow bunny to play and to snuggle with during the cold days of winter.
Please make sure you check on them regularly: make sure they have water, hay and that their hutch and their bed are dry. Dont forget to keep an eye on water bottles to make sure they dont become frozen.

💜 Pet Bereavement Support Service 💜
Here at the Toll Barn Vets we know that the thought of losing and the actual loss of a beloved pet is a very difficult time, but remember you are not alone. Grieving for your pet and the mix of emotions you feel with this are completely normal and a testimony to that special bond you shared with your pet. Unfortunately, not everyone understands this grief and this can feel like a very lonely experience.
We are here to support you, your family and even other family pets at this incredibly sad time and to provide a ‘listening ear’ and give you time, patience and encouragement as you work through your loss. Delphi, one of our wonderful Veterinary Nurses, is undertaking the Blue Cross Bereavement Training and Qualification and is available to talk to you and your family before, during and after pet loss to ensure that you are supported every step of the way. Our Pet Memory Garden at the practice is available for clients to spend some peaceful moments remembering loved ones.

This gorgeous kitty was rescued by a very kind lady who has done a wonderful job of getting him back into tip top condition. During his health check it was noticed that his teeth were diseased and had several resorptive lesions causing long term discomfort. Our team were able to perform significant dental treatment and we are delighted to see he is now feeling much happier! Dental disease in cats is frequently found below the gum margin where tooth roots can be resorbed causing long term "invisible" discomfort. This is why we always recommend full mouth xrays for cats having dental treatment. If you would like to talk to us about dental care please give us a call on 01692 407126

Thank you for your kind 5* review, it means a lot to our team. Difficult news is never easy but our team is always here to support you every step of the way "I wanted to say "Thankyou" to the team at Toll Barn Vets today for delivering so sensitively and professionally some very bad news. The lovely vet took the time to seek a second opinion and explain the issue and options in a detailed and informative manner which really helped me understand and come to terms with it. I really appreciate it all."

Christmas is well on its way and at this time of year we all try to think of others so the Toll Barn Vets "Feed a Stray this Christmas Day" Food Collection point is available again this year. If you would like to make a donation of any food, toys, bedding (or pretty much anything else you can think of!) then please feel free to leave it at our collection point at the surgery and we will ensure all donations go to local rescue charities. This year we are also offering a collection point for Stalham Community Fridge and Food Bank so if you would like to donate any food items (or loose change if you prefer) our collection point is open during our normal surgery hours. Thank you for your support 🙂

This gorgeous duo came to visit us when they managed to access rodent poison. Luckily for them their owner was aware of the life threatening risks and rushed them to the surgery immediately. Our team were able to make them both vomit (much to their disgust!) and avoid any further problems. Rat and mouse poison stops pets from being able to produce clots which means they have life threatening bleeding so it is really important that treatment is administered straight away. Our 24/7 onsite emergency service means we are always on hand to help pets in need.

A VIP Club with a difference! Our VIP Club is designed to give our clients the best value for money as well as spreading the cost of routine pet care such as flea and worming, booster vaccinations and claw clipping. Our VIP club differs from a lot of healthy pet clubs as we believe in rewarding our loyal members with as many benefits as possible. This means that you can choose the flea and worming treatment that is right for your pet (we don't specify that only particular flea and worming treatments are available) and also means that our discounts are apply to ALL our practice products and services not just specific areas such as neutering or chronic illnesses. We believe this provides you with the best possible value for money and means our patients get the best care available. Our VIP Clubs start from just £14.99 per month for cats, from £15.99 per month for dogs and £9.99 per month for rabbits. If you would like to find our more about our VIP Clubs please give us a call on 01692 407126 or pop in to pick up a brochure.
