Friday fun or fright day 🤣

We all got up fairly early and were ready by 9.15am to leave the house as we were worried about getting stuck in road blocks due to the Race Down under tour coming through Aldinga.
We headed off and luckily there were no delays on our route to Tree top climb which is in Kuitpo Forest.

We arrived a little early which didn’t help with me and Darren’s nerves that’s for sure. We checked in, got our gloves and wrist bands then waited for our kit up time. At exactly 10.40 we kitted up with helmets and harnesses then watched a safety video before testing our equipment on the practice course. Then it was time to climb.

I’m not sure what changes as you get older but I never used to be worried about climbing and heights. And I still don’t mind being up high, I think my fear is more the falling 🤣

Well the first few high moving bridges were a real challenge but with a little coaxing from my best buddy and all round hero of a husband who is more scared of heights than me, I got over every obstacle in front of me. We managed three courses altogether and the fourth one I missed out to take pictures. Course 4 was definitely my favourite as it was mainly ziplines but I hate climbing the ladders.
I missed course 3 out but everyone else did it in style, even Darren 🦹

Fun for the boys and Rich, challenge for the rest of us but very proud of Darren and Carylin for smashing all the courses 💪🏽 So of course we deserved an afternoon drink 🍻 and lunch so we headed into Meadows for a pub lunch.
We found a great deal of Beef and salad grilled panini type sandwich with chips and a pint for $25 each which works out £25 in total for both of our lunches.
Bargain, tasty and very filling ❤️
Joseph had his favourite Schnitzel and chips with gravy and absolutely smashed it!!

Then it was home for a rest before Joseph’s cricket game with only the adults going to cheer him on.
Dinner was homemade beef burgers with the rest of the free rolls from the night before 🤪
Early night on a Friday so we were all fresh for Park run the next day 😴💤

Thursday saw us on a visit to a German village called Hahndorf.

Darren got up and went for a run, I’m struggling to get back into it but really need to 😩
We all then got ready and headed out in the car to Hahndorf. We walked the main road of the village, taking in all the history of the place and enjoying the different German shops as we explored Hahndorf. We were blown away by the beautiful winery of Wolf Blass with a museum in the front, the history throughout and garden out the back. We also took a look inside the opal museum and how they are sourced and made into jewellery.

We then stopped for lunch at The German Arms pub where we kept it German with a Bockwurst, sauerkraut, pretzel, mash, gravy and mustard. The barmaid was surprised the big beer was for me and not Darren 🤣
Jacob had the biggest hotdog we have ever seen and nearly managed to eat it all. 🌭

After lunch we headed back out to walk some more and popped back to the German food shop as Carylin wanted to get a few bits. Jacob worked off his hotdog by giving Joseph, Rich and the Darren a piggy back so definitely deserved an ice cream 🤣

After ice cream it was pretty much time to head back as the boys had footie training at 4.30pm. We all went to footie practice to watch but of course we snuck up to the club house and watched with a drink. 🍻

Back home we had chicken burgers using some of the free rolls we had been given while in the club house from the local bakery. Then we played a few silly fun games before bed.

A Windy Wednesday meant the perfect day to head into the city.
After an early start for us with another video call in regards to our available campsite crew positions all of us made our way to Seaford train station in the car.

Managing to park for free not far from the platform we boarded the train. Having downloaded the app a single journey ticket off peak worked out the cheapest option at €2.50 each (£1.25).
The journey to Adelaide city took around an hour on the train with the weather threatening to rain not dampening our spirits though.

We arrived at Adelaide station which had a more old fashioned feel than I expected. First stop for us and any massive sports fan was The Oval being close to the station it was a short walk over the river to see the iconic structure. With that ticked off we walked into the main city streets to take in the American feel city and find somewhere for lunch.

Having walked around the China town part of the city we decided against Chinese food for lunch and found a pub instead. We passed the starting area/ cyclist village for the Tour Down Under cycle event starting on 17th and settled in a pub for lunch called The Black Bull. Darren had the Baramundi fish with chips and I tried Kangaroo with roasted vegetables and sweet potato mash. My verdict on Kangaroo is that it’s very tasty but more game like than I expected and apparently its better for you than Beef 🤪

We decided after lunch we were happy that we had seen most of the city and headed to the train station to get back in time for Joseph’s cricket training. With a stop at McDonalds for ice cream on the way home in the car we arrived home and Darren took Joseph to training while the rest of us stayed chatting at home.

On their return the dinner was ready, a healthy chicken salad. We were then made to experience the Phase 10 card game, a favourite of our parents when they visit the boys.
The game that has potential to go on for hours if not days 🤣 was eventually won by Carylin and with the next day in mind we headed off to bed at just after 11pm.

Tidy up, Tent on, Thai lunch and footie training Tuesday.

Darren started the day with a 5k run and a trip to the shop to sort his camping coffee issue out. The camping coffee pot that we bought was just not cutting it (or working as it should).
I remained at the house having to sort an issue that had arisen around staffing the campsite for our 2025 summer season.

We had already factored in our plans for the two remaining weeks here in Adelaide a day at home to get chores done around the house and install the roof tent to the Pajero.
Once Darren was back and I had completed all my indoor chores we were both outside with the four Griffins.
Cars were being cleaned inside and out by them while we wrestled with installing the roof tent. These things are always harder than they look on the videos.

By lunchtime we had the tent installed on the roof of The Beast #2 so we went off to collect some Thai food for lunch. The bowls of noodles, meat and veg worked out around £8.50 a bowl and were tasty plus very filling. I had Roasted pork crackling fried Hokkein noodles and Darren Roasted pork cracking pad Thai curry. Oh and a chicken spring roll each that we really didn’t need. Yum yum!!

Darren had a quick nanny nap while me and Carylin went back out to the Pajero to have a play with the tent. Which we managed to get out as Darren joined us. A few little tweaks to the car and tent, I think we understand how the tent works now. 🙏
The boys had the first test climb up the tent followed by Darren and then me once I was sure it was secure.

Before we knew it, it was time for showers and the boys to get ready for football training. We walked down to training with them and then headed to Kick Back which backs on to the training field. Darren sampled some of their own brewery beers with a paddle of beers, me and Rich stuck to the one we already like and Carylin was on gin with pineapple I believe.

After the boys training they joined us for dinner at Kick Backs then very full we walked back to the house and chatted in the kitchen until it was bedtime for the boys. We had scheduled around the 10.5 hour time difference with the Uk a video chat with a potential candidate for camp crew so at just before 9.30pm we sloped off to the bedroom to set up. That done and uneventful, we watched some TV with Carylin and Rich before hitting the sack for the night.

Adults only day out Monday.

The boys wanted a chilled day at home or rather they were not interested in tagging along in a vineyard tour so off the four of us went for a child free day out.

We drove to the wine region of Langhorne Creek and our first stop was the beautiful vineyard Lake Breeze where we enjoyed a free wine tasting of seven red wines (me and Darren). Carylin opted for Whites and Rose and designated driver Rich done amazing sticking to water.
The wines were very good and well priced. The vineyard was very well done and a beautiful place to sit relax having a glass of wine before we moved on. I opted for a cold white wine called Pecorino (mainly due to the Italian link) which was surprisingly good and the story behind the name is quite sweet.
Darren had a cold beer while Carlin went for another white wine on the list called Vermentino, while Rich stuck to water. We left armed with a favourite red, Carylin’s favourite white and a bottle of the Pecorino for me ❤️

We moved on to the second vineyard Kimbolton winery where we had a wine and cheese tasting, and again Carylin stuck to white & rose wines. Another nice setting for a drink but this time the tastings were $30 each with the cheese and $10 for just the wines so we stuck to the tasting had a look at the view from the top of the building then moved on again.

It was soon passing lunchtime so we stopped off at a pub in a lovely little town called Strathalbyn. The Victoria Hotel had an indoor pond feature which was pretty cool and the food was good.

Our final stop was a traditional town pub named The Old Bush inn but nicknamed Top pub as it was at the top of the town, with middle pub in the middle of town and Bottom pub - well I think you get it by now 🤣

Back home to the boys for an Aussie classic of sausage in a piece of bread Snaga, 🤣 drinks and games sat in the evening sun. Joseph was victorious at kids vs adults trival pursuits before we all headed off to be near 11pm.

Sunday started with a naughty trip to McDonald’s for breakfast.
An unfortunate mishap with orange juice then led to a trip to the shops for a quick clothes shop but meant those not involved could get a few bits too. Darren picked up a new outfit and I got a hat as I had left mine behind.

Due to the later start we missed the car meet we were heading to but saw some of the classic cars heading home as we arrived in Victor Harbor at just after 10.30am. It was busy as we looked to park up but luck was on our side and we found a spot right near the front.

The fair ground rides were first on the agenda as the boys don’t see them very often and it’s their school holidays. Joseph wanted to ride everything as a little thrill seeker but Jacob was more reserved trying to avoid anything that was likely to turn his stomach. After the fun on the rides we took a walk over to Granite Island.
We walked around the island exploring the granite rocks and views.
All quite thirsty from the walk around the island we got a drink from the cafe before boarding the Horse drawn tram back to the Victor Harbor.

Joesph rode a camel along the beach which no one else was enticed into and then we all were ready for lunch. We went to the Crown Hotel (which is basically a pub) for lunch and a refreshing beer. The food was good and big portions. I opted for a fish plate and Darren the catch of the day, as we like to eat seafood if we are close to the sea.

We walked off lunch checking out a market and the local shops, seeing a steam train as we walked back to where the car was.

Home by 5.30pm where we sat in the garden, a couple of drinks and then jacket potatoes for dinner and an early night after a busy weekend.

Even across the world here in Australia Saturday mornings have Park Runs scattered around the country.
With one right on the doorstep at Aldinga Beach we had to give it a go.
With both boys up and ready to make the 8am start we made our way together in the car.

At the start line there was a nice introduction from one of the volunteers and they welcomed the first timers as well as the visitors. Celebrated those who had hit mile stones such as one hundred park runs it was all very inclusive.

We knew that Joseph would be off, way in front of us but hadn’t ran with Jacob so weren’t sure how he would do. At the start line we were altogether but as we headed off on the 2.5k run out it was obvious that both boys were competing as usual.

We all ended up running separately as even Darren wanted to push on faster than I was happy to. I saw the boys come past as I was coming up to the 2.5k turn around with Jacob now ahead of Joesph. Then I saw Darren on his way back a few places after the boys. I made it to the turn back myself and was happy to have then passed some people who were stop start, stop start all the way along the first half.

700m until the finish and I noticed one of my laces had come undone. There was no way I was stopping to tie it so close to the finish. I ran on and had a cheer squad waiting for me.
Out of a field of 150 runners Joesph had finished 38th (and 1st for his age group), Jacob 42nd (2nd for his age group) after stopping near the finish to be sick and his brother passing him 🤣, Darren 61st and Michelle 67th (17th female and 2nd in age group). It was a great run by all.
Joesph went for a dip in the sea while the three of us saw in the last of the runners and walkers.

Back home having breakfast we planned the coming days so we could get an idea of what shopping we needed then headed off for a food shop. With a stop at Coles, Drakes, the bakery and BWS we had enough food and drink to keep us going for a while. Home for a simple lunch of egg mayonnaise rolls together.

The boys were happy to have an afternoon playing consoles so us four adults headed off to the nearest vineyard Ivybrook winery.
Three of us opted for a wine tasting and at $10 per person it was a bargain. Carylin started on a long awaited bottle of fizzy white wine, as the last time she visited they were all out of it.
After the wine tasting we moved on to outside with us three opting for beers instead of wine and Carylin sticking with her bottle of fizz.
It was sunny and warm but bearable under the shade with a nice breeze.
It was a lovely chilled afternoon in the winery garden.

Home just after 5pm and it was time to start the BBQ, while sinking some more drinks. The evening turned into a singalong in the garden after ball games with the boys and the men got on to some hard liquor 🤣
Bed by midnight for most of us 🤪

Fantastic Friday Sports day!!

We started our day with a Cheese and Ham Omelette to fuel us for the our sports day.

We packed up the car and headed off to the Bayindi Sports fields.

Tennis to start with and a win from Team Darren & Joesph.
Then cricket practice for Joesph with us all taking a turn to bowl for him.

We learnt from the boys how to pass and kick the egg shaped ball 🤣
With a lesson on Aussie rules football from two of the Sharks finest players 🦈🦈

Proper football followed (soccer) which got a little competitive especially for Darren trying to keep up with the younger legs.

After all that exercise we were hot and sweaty so a dip in the sea was called for before a celebratory ice cream 🍦

Joesph had a Cricket match in the late afternoon which meant drinks for the adults celebrating Carylin getting the role of Centre manager while we watched 🍻

Home for burgers and a few more celebratory drinks before bed!

Can’t believe how quick the days are flying by, Thrusday meant we only had two days left with the boys alone.
From Saturday Carylin and Richard have two weeks off.

We started our day by running a 5k along the Esplanade which is the ParkRun 5k route. We had driven to the start to give it a practice before Saturday. Joseph showed off his speed and was about 200m ahead of us on the second half but the first half he had stayed with us skipping, jumping and clambering up walls as we concentrated on running along.
We finished the run had a sit down at the finish and discussed signing Joseph up for ParkRun so he could record his progress each week.

Once home we signed up both boys for ParkRun and then loaded the car ready for an afternoon on the Kayaks.
Before we headed out Darren cooked us a homemade Carbonara which both boys enjoyed and soo did we to be fair.

Belly’s full we headed to Port Noarlunga which had been recommended as a good spot to start with the boys. The launches were pretty painless for all four kayaks and we headed off against the current. As we paddled along the river leading out to the sea we saw a group of black swans which I have never seen before.
We paddled as far as a beach where there were mainly children jumping from the side of the rock face into the water.

Of course the boys had to test my nerves jumping off themselves and even Darren had a couple of jumps. Jacob is definitely a little thrill seeking and was jumping from the highest point, even impressing some local teens who asked him various questions before taking ages to dare to jump themselves. Some still hadn’t jumped as we left.
It was such a hot day and sitting out watching the boys I could feel I had caught the sun so it was time to paddle back to where we had started.

By the time we got back to the car and loaded the kayaks we didn’t have time for a stop for an ice cream that we had promised as they had been so well behaved so we would have to owe them one the following day. Home to Chicken kebabs, salad and pasta salad.

An interesting evening dog walk with Jacob and Joseph where we saw a man leading a horse along the Esplanade which was unusual and a house fire or something causing smoke bellowing from the housing estate away from the beach obviously causing a lot of interest for the locals and the boys were also intrigued.
Of course we were blessed with a beautiful sunset to boot but we had both left our phones behind so no pictures from the walk 😢
A glass of wine before bed then an early night to rest for the Friday finale of Sports Day with the boys!!

Weak Wednesday….Ok so I can admit I over done it Tuesday and needed to rest Wednesday morning but not an achy stubborn (or determined) Darren!!
He headed off for the morning run alone full of aches 🤪 It was already heating up to a muggy 23c during his run but he soldiered on!

Back home and we prepared to go to the beach before lunch, making a little picnic to have on the beach once there. Car packed and boys onboard we hit Aldinga Beach.
It’s soo great we can park on the beach, pitch up with our awning out and not have to lug anything miles before hand.

All set up on the beach, the boys were straight in the water and returned a while after to play some cricket which we all got involved with. Before we knew it, it was time for lunch but a determined Joesph wanted to catch the ball from Darren’s bat once with one hand before we packed up. There was a big cheer from all when he eventually succeeded and we stopped for lunch.

Darren and the boys had a kick around with the football (soccer) after lunch and I had a solo dip in the sea to cool off. The boys and Darren had a splash about in the water after I got out and then we both tried to catch a little sun but not for too long of course while the boys played in the water.

When the boys next came back from the sea they decided to have a game of French cricket which started off really well with lots of laughs but after a while that had run its course with the boys.
Another dip each and it was time to pack up to get back in time for cricket practice for Joseph.

Rich was back from work already and Carylin returned also a little after we got home. Joesph decided he was too tired for cricket practice and so we didn’t go out for that so Darren decided we’d go do a little shop instead. We stopped for a couple of cheeky beers on our way back and had one of those funny moments when someone thinks they recognise you says hello then calls you by another name. So Darren is now Mark 🤣 Back for a family dinner cooked by Jacob a nice Spaghetti and meatballs.

We only managed a little chill on the sofa before heading off to bed for an early night. Must be the sea air 🤣

Talk about an active Tuesday…

We started the day with a 5k run and Joesph was keen to join us. We were unsure whether he’d make the whole 5k so a had back up plan incase but to our surprise he managed the whole 5k with ease and chatted the whole way around. ⭐️

Once back home we had a few chores to do before the next planned activity of the day. Darren had offered to oil the new garden table and chairs for Carylin and Rich. I got on with some laundry then set up the stations for our garden bootcamp for the boys. I made six stations using the equipment available and set up the music & timer ready. 🏃🏼‍♂️🥊

Bootcamp was fun but hard work especially due to the weather, the wind had died down and it turned out to be a sunny 27c day, which for us in the uk would be a reasonable summers day.
Two sweaty boys and adults later from 20 minutes of intervals on each station we had lunch together. 🥪🥙

To keep the theme of the day about movement we headed out to The Aldinga Scrub which is basically a nature reserve where wild Kangaroos live. We opted for the nearly 5k route around the scrub and saw hundreds of kangaroos all range of sizes including a huge male who you could definitely tell was a male 🤣 🌰🌰
Again the boys surprised us easily managing the 5k hike and still being as excited to spot the kangaroos was satisfying to see. 🦘

After all that exercise we thought it only fair we stopped at the beach bar ‘Star of Greece’ for an ice cream for the boys and an Italian beer for us.
We didn’t stick around there for long as we had been warned by a local that parking in the wrong direction even on the small road leading to the beach carpark could lead to a fine from the local warden. It didn’t as we were in and out before anyone came along. Darren did think maybe she was just after our parking space 🤣

Back at the house Rich was home already after his working night away then shortly after Carylin arrived home and we had a family meal of fajitas together.
Having not exercised nearly enough for one day 🤣 Darren decided we should walk the dog around the block which turned into our 5k loop to check out the sunset at the beach again.
That was it we were pooped and both tried to stay awake to watch a bit of TV with Carylin and Rich but only made it until 10pm before we both started to nod off, off to bed we went to a freshly laundered bed 😴💤🛌

Joesph joined us for a 5k run this morning and smashed it so we got our fastest 5k of 2025 so far thanks to him 💪🏽

First run back for me since my fall and stoked I managed to do the whole run without stopping 🥳
Darren at last had some company running 🤪

Monday morning…Is it easier to make excuses not to run than to just get up and do it - or is it the other way around?? 🤣
Anyway still feeling the aches from my fall, I postponed my restart to running for another day, it’s windy and we woke up later than I like to if we are heading out for a morning run.

Morning coffee drunk and off Darren went to run alone…I will get back into running with him tomorrow - I need to!!
I do use the time alone effectively though, uploading posts, replying to comments and Italian Duolingo lessons.

Coffee drunk, run completed/italian lessons for the day ticked off, showered and dressed we were off to the bank to set up an account just so we can legally own a car in Australia. It was pretty pain less to open the account, with our passports, an Aussie phone number and SA address we were now Australian bank account holders.

Back to Service SA for the second time since we arrived in Adelaide with the Rego form filled in by Rich and our new proof of address we took a ticket and joined the queue to change the ownership on the Pajero and extend its rego for another three months. The cost nearly 2hrs of our Aussie adventure time and $51 of our hard earned campsite cash.
It was finally done and we were now legally owners of a Mitsubishi Pajero named by us THE BEAST #2.

Back to the house to feed two hungry boys some lunch before heading off out for some Lazer tag fun 🤪
Unfortunately Lazer tag was shut so we went Bowling instead, where luck was definitely on the March borns side seeing me win the first game and Jacob winning the second game. On to some gaming fun as the boys had 40minutes of play time on the arcade games as part of the package we bought for us all.

Once it was time up the boys decided to save their points and bring them back another day to spend in the shop although I would have been happy to take a beach ball home as we need one for the coming days but the boys weren’t budging.

Home to Darren cooking bangers and mash in time for Carylin’s arrival home so she could relax completely after work for a change.

It was bed time for the boys shortly after dinner so we decided to go on a dog walk the two of us to the beach with Ena to see the sunset and burn off some energy. It was a beautiful and chilled walk, and the sunset was nice but can’t wait for some stunning sunsets here in Australia.

We’ve been asked could we move here full time…absolutely yes but we love the life style we have now and don’t want to enter back into the rat race of the norm work wise. Australia so far ticks a lot of boxes for us though.

All you can eat breakfast was booked for 10am at the pub after our late Saturday night…three of us walked (Darren, me & Joseph) to the pub and the other three jumped in the car. Another wound for me but this time because of an uncomfortable flip flop or thong as the Aussies call them!
I won’t walk in flip flops again even if it’s only 1k. 😩

Breakfast was a very filling, we all over indulged as you do when it’s an all you can eat buffet. It was good though and meant we wouldn’t need lunch. The same three walked home again after and we felt spits of rain in the air but we managed to get inside without getting wet.

The Weekly food shop needed to be done with both Carylin and Rich back to work Monday to Friday the coming week. So me and Darren headed off with Carylin to sort that out. A trip to Coles (which is like Tesco) and Aldi (which is Aldi 🤪) we managed to get the food for the coming week and even a few more essentials for our forward travels.

Back to the house and as the rain was still on its way in and the adults were still struggling from a late night we opted for a movie afternoon before a family dinner of chicken, rice and salad.
By 9pm everyone was ready for bed so it was an early night for all.

Picture from the night before 🤪

While I’m still healing from my senior moment of falling while out on a run Darren took himself off alone for an early run unexpectedly joining part of the beach front Park run.

We then spent the rest of the morning shopping to kit out the Pajero ready for our touring part of our Australian adventure.

We went out with a list and pretty much found everything we were looking for plus a few added extras.

Our shopping list
Washing up bowl ✅
Sponge ✅
Chopping board ✅
Dustpan and brush ✅
Camping pots & pans✅
Kettle/ coffee pot✅
Roof tent ✅
Chairs ✅
Multi plug ✅

We also bought a couple of fans with lights, a sheet to go under the mattress to prevent condensation, clothes and stopped for lunch at Bami’s for a Vietnamese chicken and pork roll with an iced sugar cane drink.

Arriving back early afternoon we had time to chill before we walked to the Thai restaurant for dinner altogether with Carylin, Rich, Jacob and Joesph.
The food was delicious and the company was the usual Brucey bonus to a great evening out. We stop at the bar for a drink and to get ice creams for the boys before a walk back playing dance tag along the way 🤣

Another late night with drinking, music, singing, dancing and lots of laughs ended a little earlier than New Years but some of us made it to bed before 2am others may not have 🤪
