I just love this horse to the moon and back 🥰 kick starting the year at Northallerton Equestrian Centre in the 90 ODE. Lost track of time to have a shout over the speakers that I was suppose to be doing my dressage when I was walking the course 🙈 threw tack on Charlie and raced to the arena. Quick trot and canter and into the test with 31.8. Made it in time for the jumping 😅 4 faults in SJ and knocked the joker fence. Came away 3rd in ODE and 10th in the showcross stage. Charlie doing what he loves and .privv1 being a super groom whilst I caught my breath 🤭☺️

‼️ Warning ‼️ Incoming rant ‼️

Dirty, filthy horses 🙆‍♀️ I’m getting to my wits end of it. Here is a small example of the coats I have been up against this season. Most of these coats are horses that are supposedly a grey (white 🦄) horses and they resemble a bay.

Why do we need a clean coat to clip? Many reasons and all to benefit, you, your horse, my clippers and blades

Dirty horses put extra unnecessary wear and tear on my clippers

Dirty horses blunt blades so much quicker. One set of blades on CLEAN coats can do 5-8 clips. Dirty coats can blunt the blades by just doing one side of the hindquarters.

Clipping Dirty horses is extremely tough on me - carpal tunnel in both wrists are not fun

When you are having to clip a dirty horse it’s not comfortable for your horse! Imagine trying to brush your hair after playing a muddy football game covered in dry mud and sweat. It tugs and pulls at the hair and makes the blades & clippers heat up quicker making the whole Process even longer than it should be!

Greasy/dirty coats will not leave a nice finish it will leave lines and it can be so disheartening looking at a liney greasy clip.

I have 2 horses I compete, work full time and clip whenever possible. Put some time aside to make sure your horse is clean!

Use some elbow grease and brush your horses coat and not just before I arrive!

Give them a bath if you can with a stiff brush

Hot cloth and again scrub! Your arms should be aching and that is when you have done a good job

My dirty horse fee will be going up to £10 to cover the cost of sharpening blades and fixing burnt out clippers.

So this little pair were very fortunate and rescued from the meat man. Both these mares are babies but we have no idea how old. We think 2 rising 3yr olds. They were called “the ferals” 🙈 as they had been turned away to have abit of chill time, but recently they have been quite itchy and very warm so we had to see what was going on in all that hair.

Both mares were sedated by the vet with the aim to get everything off. Forgot to take a before photo but you can see from all the hair on the ground that there was a lot!

This winter in comparison to others has been quite warm! So they were over heating in their winter Woolies and also had some friends with them.

Both of them had lice, and lice LOVE a nice thick cozy coat to hide in. Best way to get rid of them is to take away the horses coat and get a topical treatment from the vet.

These two are feeling much better now!

Anyone else tried button training your horses. Got this as abit of fun when Charlie was stuck inside because of all the snow. He’s bossing it now!

So Charlies mane is abit of a journey 🙈. As you can see very thin at the bottom of his neck near his withers and looking a lot longer & thicker at the top! The flies seriously made Charlie uncomfortable last summer - more so than usual even with his fly rug on. He NEVER wears a neck on his rugs so this isn’t a rub from a rug, he hasn’t had one on for years. So I like to keep his mane short enough incase we go out and I need to plait it 🙈 so here’s a quick mane pull to make it feel like we are making progress in the length & thickness 😂 I used the @smart_grooming pro level knife in the coarse, as you can see he’s not fussed at all.
