Hey everyone 👋🏻

I know some of you already know me but to those who don’t, I’m Nicole. I previously worked at House Of Canine up until 3 years ago, sadly with a change of lifestyle I had to leave ☹️ BUT I am back to help!

It has been lovely to see many Old customers and as new this week and getting to know all the dogs in our care currently. A few things will be changing over the next few weeks but please don’t let this scare you - the changes happening are to make your life easier and for everything to run smoother!

I know these past couple of months have been some what stressful for most, but with everything now having some organisation and back to the highest of standards we are looking forward to seeing your dogs on their stay.

I’m sure I don’t have to remind everyone, but weather like we’re experiencing is dangerous for all dogs. Please consider either not walking your dogs, or walking them very early or very late at night.

We are always on hand for support and advice on how to correctly maintain your dog’s coat at home to ensure we don’t have to shave them down due to matts.

☀️ Heatstroke ☀️

As you’re all aware, this week we are facing a few very hot days of sunshine. This means walks will be limited, and dogs provided with cooling elements. Heatstroke can occur in dogs very very quickly, and if left untreated can become fatal, especially in brachycephalic breeds, geriatrics and neonatals.

**DOG OWNERS PLEASE READ**

If you know anyone has a dog that starts being sick /diarrhoea, please get them to a vet straight away ……it is so fast and they go downhill very quickly. Other symptoms include lethargy, drooling, change in temperament.
The vet believes it is a version of gastroenteritis that is highly contagious between dogs. However our dogs have not left home/our field so vet believes they have caught it from foxes/ wild animals. Our old dog Kim was put to sleep on Monday, the younger 3 have been / are in animal hospital.

This message has been forwarded from Barby Notice Board by me as is very important for all us dog owners in the district.

⭐️Please rest assured we haven’t had any cases in our kennels, but if your dog does display any of these symptoms we kindly ask you do not bring them in⭐️

⭐️If your dog does display these symptoms whilst with us, we will seek veterinary treatment with your local vet as soon as possible⭐️

We would like everyone to use this phone’s WhatsApp to make bookings rather than Me or Callum personally. It makes it easier for us to keep bookings in once place.

🐾 DOG SAFETY WARNING 🐾
BLUE GREEN ALGAE (Cyanobacteria)

Just warning local dog owners, that blue-green algae is currently present in the reservoir water.
Our young dog inadvertently drank a few mouthfuls yesterday evening, resulting in her having an emergency overnight stay at the Vet’s, forced emptying of stomach contents, IV fluids and lots of activated charcoal orally.
Thankfully, she hasn’t displayed any symptoms of poisoning, but a family member lost a young Labrador to blue-green algae ingestion a few years ago 🥺
It it extremely toxic to dogs and they can rapidly collapse and die, sometimes showing symptoms as quickly as 15-30 minutes after ingesting the spores, or sometimes not until 24 to 48 hours later, by which time it is unfortunately too late, as liver and nerve damage has already resulted.
THERE IS NO ANTIDOTE AVAILABLE.
Please keep your dogs away from the water. Apparently, they only need to lick their wet fur if it has been exposed to the spores, enough for a toxic dose to occur 😢

Would just like to remind our lovely customers that the opening times are strictly 07:30-09:00 and 17:00-18:00. Unfortunately we have had a few occasions of people turning up which then interrupts grooming sessions and exercise time for the dogs.

Outside of hours can be arranged with a member of staff.

By ensuring you worm your pets regularly you can decrease the risk massively.
