Last spaces available for the recall workshop on the 1st June
One of the biggest problems I see are dogs struggling with recall. Not only is this a problem for the owners, and dogs, but also other people. We owe it to our pups to make sure we keep them out of dangerous situations, and this workshop is designed for exactly that.
We go through the basics of setting up a recall, and exercises to do at home, on the move, and how to introduce things like prey, play and chase drives to really bombproof that recall. We also talk about the importance of reactivity training if your issues go past the recall.
If you want to check me out, I have loads of great reviews, and real world results using positive training techniques and tapping into innate behavioural traits in dogs… Kind of what you would expect from an accredited trainer.
This workshop is only £40 for the two hours, giving you LOADS of training and tips.

One of the most common issues I see with reactive dogs is the use of a short lead. Using a longer and looser lead while training a reactive dog can be beneficial for several reasons. Firstly, it allows for more freedom of movement, reducing the feeling of constraint and pressure that can worsen or even drive a dog's reactivity. Think about all those times we tighten up on a lead when we see another dog, the shorter the lead, the easier that is to do, even subconsciously. When a dog feels less restricted, they tend to feel more relaxed in a situation and more able to process that without the extra pressure. Its very similar to walking down the street and suddenly a friend grabs your wrist and starts to steer you across the road… That pressure and movement instantly tells you something is wrong, even if you cant see it!
Secondly, a longer lead can provide a greater distance between the dog and the thing their reacting to, creating a buffer zone that can help prevent the dog from becoming overly aroused or reactive. It also gives them the option to create their OWN distance and that’s part of good decision making.
And lastly, a looser lead can help communicate a sense of calmness and relaxation to the dog, as opposed to tension on a tight lead. This is what real leadership is… That tension, can signal to the dog that there is something to be worried about (just like our wrist example above), and we’re the ones driving that in some cases. By maintaining a relaxed leash, the handler can help the dog feel more at ease and help them make better decisions and come to terms with the situation. This is absolutely critical to help the dog work through emotion, and not just supress them.
Reactivity is often about doing less, not more. Its just knowing what to do… Easier said than done, but also why good, force free trainers exist. Using shorter leads, “correcting” outbursts and supressing emotions just causes more stress and anxiety… Your dog isn’t actin
So… I’ve been quiet regarding the scent detection I was looking to do, as I got really let down on some things. That said, we adapt and overcome and I’ve been working to get that back on track. So for all those that commented and emailed me, I haven’t forgot, I’ve just had to rejig!
Anyway… In the garage today, I made this and we’re going to be ready soon to roll out some scent detection and pod trailing!
Jump on the page to stay up to date with this. I have some excellent new ideas for all this stuff and a whole new system of teaching geared towards getting the most out of your pups, in the most fun way we can! Im really looking forward to sharing it all with you... Just as soon as I can get the sawdust from out of my beard. And if you have any questions... Drop them below!
