Health Tip – Worms 🪱🐱

Cats can pick up worms (roundworms and tapeworms) when they eat prey such as mice or birds while hunting or if they have fleas which are carrying worm larvae.

Tapeworms are long and flat and may be passed in segments. These segments (which look like grains of rice) may be visible in your cats poo or around their bottom. Roundworms are the most common type of intestinal worm and look similar to a white earthworm. Other common symptoms of intestinal worms include an increased appetite, weight loss, diarrhoea and an itchy bottom.

We recommend treating your cat(s) regularly with a prescribed treatment from your vet as they are more effective. It's also important to regularly treat them for fleas too!

If you do find that your cat has worms, it's best to treat them as soon as possible. There is also a possibility that there may be worm eggs in your home so it's important to thoroughly wash your cat’s bedding on a high temperature and to give their litter tray a deep clean to avoid re-infection.
