Happy Friday❤ we hope you and your pets have all had a lovely week🌼

On Wednesday in the practice we had 'Cheese Wednesday' where we all brought in little cheese related treats to enjoy over the day. We aim to do this once a month with lots of different foods from around the world to celebrate all the hard work everyone puts in and open our horizons to foods from different cultures😁🐭How yummy does this all look!😍

❤Meet Nieve who came in to see our vet Maisie for a health check and nail clip 🐾 She was the perfect patient! Nieve has a very special role at home and her owner has very kindly provided us with a bit of information on this below😁

Nieve is a medical detection dog who uses her nose to detect oncoming life threatening episodes of anaphylaxis and collapse. She is able to detect a change in her clients odour and alert them to let them know they’re about to become dangerously unwell. Her owner has an auto immune disease called mast cell activation syndrome where it reacts to many different things in the environment and in her own body making it impossible to avoid and prevent. The warning to an episode that Nieve gives often allows them to take rescue medication, get help and lay somewhere safe preventing further injury and harm and a significant hospital admission. She really is a little life saver! Nieves nose knows.

On Wednesday we were privileged to share Charlie's final moments with him and his family. We are all saddened by the loss of Charlie, he was not only a loving patient of ours, he was part of the family and built amazing relationships with every member of the team he came into contact with. Not only did we have a great relationship with Charlie but also his owners and we want to thank them for their kind words and support over the years 🐾❤🌈🌟

Because of their long life cycle, fleas can take around 3-4 months to go away once infested.
Fleas live and feed on our pets before laying eggs. The eggs fall off into the environment and hatch into larvae before maturing into pupae. Pupae can lay dormant for months, waiting for the perfect conditions before changing into an adult flea.
We recommend treating your pet regularly with a flea treatment to avoid any infestations - even if your pet doesn't have fleas! They are much easier to prevent than cure.
For flea and worming advice, book a consultation with one of our nurses by calling 01604 753300 or whatsapp on 07897 029404 and a member of our team will be happy to help.

Last weekend, Sharwood visited Pet Blood Bank at our practice for his 40th and final blood donation! He is the first ever dog to reach this amount of donations! Since 2017, Sharwood has helped to save the lives of up to 160 dogs and donated an incredible 22.5kg of blood! BBC News even came to celebrate the occasion with us! We are wishing a massive congratulations to Sharwood and his owner, Sue on such a wonderful achievement. We hope Sharwood enjoys his very well-earned retirement!

⭐️ STAR PET ⭐️
Ruby came in to see our vet Abbie as she had collapsed suddenly at home. Ruby needed emergency stabilisation and treatment including pain relief, an ultrasound, blood tests and intravenous fluids. She was diagnosed with a splenic torsion. This is a life threatening condition where the spleen becomes twisted and enlarged, often resulting in rupture and severe anaemia. Our amazing night vet Charlotte, performed emergency surgery to remove Ruby's spleen and after some time spent in our hospital, she has now made a full recovery! Ruby has been a star at her recent check ups and we are all thrilled to see her back to her energetic old self! ❤

😄 MEET OUR VET, TOM 😄

Hi, my name’s Tom. I graduated from the University of Nottingham in early 2024 and have been with Northampton Vets4Pets since. Originally from Surrey, I first met the incredible Northampton team during my University placements and instantly connected with them all. I enjoy every aspect of veterinary medicine however, I find I have a particular affinity for consulting as I get to meet our lovely clients and their furry friends.
In my spare time I love travelling to new places and seeing all the world has to offer. When I’m not exploring, you can often find me at home with my two cats, Waffle and Pancake or trying to stay fit at the gym.

Beautiful Bella has lost two kilograms on a weight loss journey with Wakefield Vets4Pets – and owner Hayley says she's much more active, playful and affectionate as a result. "She just seems generally less grumpy as well – she probably felt how we do when we've overindulged!"

When Bella came in for her booster vaccination a year ago the team noted that she was overweight and would need to slim down to help her live a long and happy life. Since then the three-year-old house cat has been put on a special diet and she's now lost a third of her weight. Hayley said: "We're incredibly grateful to the team at Vets for Pets. They've given us some great advice and tips to keep the weight down. They are so approachable and we've never felt judged by them."

Head veterinary nurse Jess said: "Bella has been on her weight loss journey for over a year now and she's seen once a month for basically Waggy Weightwatchers as we call it. The owners have stuck with the plan very well and took note of everything we have told them, which is great. A 2kg loss is quite a substantial loss for a cat, so she's done really well."

Ten-month-old Filemon is on the mend after he fell behind a wardrobe and fractured one of his front legs in three places.

He was taken to the specialist orthopaedic team at Vets4Pets Cross Hands in Llanelli by his owners Kasia and Andrzej where he had surgery to repair the bone with implants. The main recovery barriers for Filemon were possible nerve damage, and keeping him quiet long enough to give his bone and wound time to heal – which veterinary nurse Rebecca says is no easy task for a cat owner. She said: "Thankfully, with the help of his diligent owner and plenty of the right medication, Filemon is recovering well and has full range of motion in his leg."

Kasia said: "We'd like to say a massive thank you to the Vets for Pets team for doing an amazing job to get Filemon back on his four legs! After surgery Filemon was in a crate for six weeks which wasn't easy for him being such a young and playful kitten. It's now been two months since the surgery and he's recovering really well. He's enjoying himself again just like before the accident."

Meet Jimmy, thanks to his microchip, he was reunited with his family after 2 years!

In 2021, Jimmy was suspected to be involved in a road traffic accident in which his owners were told he didn't make it. After straying for 2 years, a member of the public brought him into Doncaster Vets4Pets where our team scanned him for a microchip. After a quick call to his owners, our team were able to reunite him with his owners. We do love a happy ending💚
