Is there anything cuter than baby Guinea pigs squeaking and munching their greens? 🥰
It’s been so hot we’ve managed to hatch a chick. This little one was an “orphan egg” and surprised us yesterday as we had no idea if/when it would be due. It’s got be called Summer, right!? ☀️
One of our customers had a broody hen but sadly one day she gave up sitting on her eggs. Luckily one of our Brahma girls was feeling a little broody herself and was more than happy to take over ”egg sitting” duties.
Now this little chick has three mums as the other hens have joined in ☺️ they are all a little hot and bothered today so hopefully the fresh water, mealworms and watermelon will help them all relax.
Welcome to the world Summer 🐥

Rex and his unhealthy obsession with the millet sprays, usually for birds.
The gorgeous Dennis and his little brother Walter have been in this morning to use our DIY bath.
Dennis was also treated to a new Earthbound bed, I think he approves. Just look at how gorgeous he is ☺️
Is there anything better than the sound of Guinea pigs scoffing their greens? 🥰
Something a little different for you all. Every now and then we fire up the incubator and hatch a handful of chickens.
These eggs had been in the incubator for 9 days when we decided to candle them. Candling is the process of shining a light into the egg to check the progress of the chick.
If you look carefully you can see the veins inside the egg and our little embryo swimming around 🥰
These eggs are kept in the incubator at 37.5 degrees. The incubator has an automatic moving base that slowly rolls the eggs throughout the day. We stop rolling the eggs on day 18 which allows the chicks to get in to their hatching positions. Hatch day is almost always day 21. The chicks will make a small chip in the shell which is known as pipping. After a small rest (and a taste of fresh air) they will then work their way around the egg to free themselves.
These little ones are due to hatch on 12th August 🐥🐣
