Morning all,

We have measures in place today to keep our clients and patients cool. The temperature of the treadmill and pool has been lowered, windows are open and an air conditioning unit has been placed in reception.

If you are worried about bringing your dog in these extreme temperatures, give us a call to re-arrange your appointment ☀️ Stay safe everyone!

Many thanks,

Happy Friday! ☀️

Here is long-standing patient ‘Stumpy’ taking a break from the heat in the pool 💦🐾🐕‍🦺 Stumpy now visits us twice a week to maintain his mobility and fitness.

Studies have found Hydrotherapy is beneficial for dogs clinically diagnosed with osteoarthritis. The non weight bearing environment improves joint range of motion and encourages synovial fluid to stiff and sore joints.

Stay cool friends! 😎🏖

Sorry we've been so quiet as we have been extremely busy lately. We just had to share this lovely video of the very Handsome Tyson having treatment in our pool today. Tyson has Elbow Dysplasia and is having treatment with us to help manage his condition. Today was his first time trying the pool and he took to it like a duck to water, as you can see here. Well done Tyson. 👏💙💦

🌞Please assess your dogs suitability to travel in the car and attend their appointments with us during this type of weather. Please take precautions such as cooling coats/mats, having water in the car, cooling the car with Aircon before traveling and not exercising prior to appointment etc. We do require 24 hours cancellation, thank you.

HOW HOT IS TOO HOT?

We humans may love the warm and sunny weather, but hot days aren't as much fun for our dogs. Dogs often suffer from heat-related stress and are susceptible to heat stroke, which can be fatal. To prevent this, it's important to know how to keep them cool and comfortable during hot summer days. 5 ways to keep dogs cool on hot days can be found here at My Family Vets: https://www.myfamilyvets.co.uk/5-ways-to-keep-your-dog-cool-on-hot-days

Meet Bertie 🐾
Bertie was diagnosed with a vertebral tumour in the neck (C4-C5 region) which had caused spinal cord atrophy and gliosis and a 2 year history of neck pain. Bertie had a dorsolaminectomy surgery to remove the tumour at the beginning of May and joined us for veterinary physiotherapy and hydrotherapy treatment shortly after. Due to the spinal cord atrophy, he initially presented with ataxia and left forelimb weakness (paresis) where he would scuff it along the floor when walking and knuckle over on the limb when standing. He has been a fabulous patient to treat and has loved his hydrotherapy and veterinary physiotherapy sessions, as he enjoys all the fuss from the team. These 2 videos show his progress from the start and towards the end of his treatment and hopefully you can see the progress he's made too. With the combination of hydrotherapy and veterinary physiotherapy Bertie has come a long way, and credit to his owner for putting in the hard work with performing the home exercise programme prescribed. Well done Bertie, you super 🌟

To WIN a FREE Physiotherapy assessment for your dog, please see our previous post on our page to enter the competition.

🐾 Today we saw this lovely lady Bella, who has been referred to us to help with the early signs of osteoarthritis. Bella has already had a full Physiotherapy assessment with us and today she returned for LASER therapy and an introduction to the pool. We think Bella did amazingly well for her very first time in the pool (as long as she could spy a gravy bone). Well done Bella 🎉 we look forward to seeing you again soon! 🐾

Beautiful Bella 😍🐾

We got to meet the lovely Bella yesterday for her introduction to the water treadmill. Bella had a 'TPLO' surgery in March, a procedure which is used following a cruciate injury. Bella's owner was kind enough to send us these lovely photos, one during her session and one of her resting in the sunshine once she got home. Bella was even lying on her back in reception after her treatment! We think she must have enjoyed herself, don't you? 😁

Our Story

The Animal Therapy Centre at Moulton College has Grooming, Physiotherapy and Hydrotherapy facilities (including 2 Water Treadmills) all under one roof and is one of the first of its kind in the country. Our team are all fully trained in animal and human first aid and are employed to care for dogs, cats and other small animals from arrival at the centre through to collection. We have modern purpose built kennel facilities for dogs waiting for their therapy appointments as well as heated indoor kennel facilities for cats and old or unwell dogs. The Animal Therapy Centre has a professional computer system used by a large number of veterinary practices around the country, which enables us to store records on animal consultations and retrieve information on individual animals. Our fully trained hydrotherapists (all registered individuals of the Canine Hydrotherapy Association) swim dogs by veterinary referral only. Dogs are swum for the following conditions:- pre-surgical conditioning, post operative rehabilitation, arthritis management, obesity management, poor mobility and fitness training. All dogs are health checked, fitted with life jackets and receive a specialised programme to meet their individual needs and the treatment they require. Our pool measures 4.16m long, 1.63m wide with a depth of 1.2m. We keep the chlorinated water temperature at between 28 and 30 degrees and test the water at least 3 times a day. We also have two aquatic treadmills for use with Spinal case dogs and large breeds amongst others and an automatic belt incline facility which allows our hydrotherapists to develop rehab programmes for dogs much further than before. The new state of the art treadmill runs via a system which means that data stored from previous sessions can be saved and uploaded to a computer for ease of analysis.
