Vaccinations are critical in helping your dog fight off infectious diseases, many of which can be fatal. However, initial vaccination followed by regular boosters can protect your dog against these diseases.

As a veterinarian, we always recommend getting your dog vaccinated because this can make a massive difference to your pet’s health. Also, many boarding kennels, doggy daycare, or dog walkers will require you to have your dog fully vaccinated, including against kennel cough, so you need to consider this if you plan to use their services.

🐈Vaccinations: protecting your cat or kitten

Vaccinations are critical in helping your cat fight off infectious diseases, many of which can be fatal. However, initial vaccination followed by regular boosters can protect your cat against these diseases.

😺Why vaccinate my cat?
Vaccinations can help protect your cat against some potentially fatal diseases, such as cat flu, feline panleucopenia virus, and feline leukaemia virus.

😺Vaccinated cats are less likely to catch diseases and won’t spread them around.

😺When should my cat be vaccinated?
Your cat should be vaccinated as a kitten and then get regular annual boosters throughout its life to maintain immunity.

😺Vaccinations for kittens
When kittens are born, they are initially protected from certain infections by their mother's milk, but this protection only lasts for a few weeks. You should therefore start vaccinations for your cat from nine weeks of age. This timing is important – too early and the antibodies they receive from their mother will interfere with the immune response to the vaccine, preventing it from working properly. Too late and kittens will be left susceptible to infection.

Kittens can start their vaccinations from 9 weeks of age and will need a second injection, usually 3 - 4 weeks after their first jab (but at least 12 weeks old).

If the second dose of the primary course is missed (more than 5 weeks), your puppy may need to be given the primary two-dose course again to ensure ongoing immunity.

It’s important to keep your kitten away from unvaccinated cats until they’ve had their full course of vaccinations and are fully protected. This is usually two weeks after the last dose of the Basic Vaccination Scheme.

💥Booster vaccinations for cats
After having their initial vaccinations as a kitten, your cat will need regular booster injections throughout their life. This is to help keep them protected as over time their immunity could otherwise go away. If you do not keep on top of your cat’s vaccinations they will be more at risk of catching infectious diseases.

If the annual booster vaccination is missed, your cat may need to be given the primary two-dose course again to ensure ongoing immunity.

And some interesting dog facts 😊

A dog’s nose print is unique, much like a person’s fingerprint.

A dog’s sense of smell is legendary, but did you know that his nose has as many as 300 million receptors? In comparison, a human nose has about 5 million.

Human blood pressure goes down when petting a dog. And so does the dog’s.

Dogs are not colorblind. They can see blue and yellow.

A recent study shows that dogs are among a small group of animals who show voluntary unselfish kindness towards others without any reward. This is one fact dog lovers have known all along.❤️🐕

AMAZING CAT FACTS 😊

Cats make very little noise when they walk around. The thick, soft pads on their paws allow them to sneak up on their prey — or you!

Cats can use their whiskers to “feel” the world around them in an effort to determine which small spaces they can fit into. A cat’s whiskers are generally about the same width as its body. (This is why you should never, EVER cut their whiskers.)

Your cat’s grooming process stimulates blood flow to his skin, regulates his body temperature and helps him relax.

According to Wilde, a slow blink is a “kitty kiss.” This movement shows contentment and trust.

Cats have up to 100 different vocalizations — dogs only have 10.
