💜 What a special double update this one is. Recently trainer Nicky was finally able to bring together two of the original Part of the Pack clients. Living opposite sides of the country after years if friendship ‘Jazz’ and ‘Blake’ finally got their play date! An amazing aspect of the Part of the Pack program is the way it helps facilitate friendships and peer support. The wonderful humans in these partnerships have been supporters of the Pack from the start. For that we are incredibly grateful. To have been part of this special day was a opportunity that will be cherished. 💜 training

💜 Huge celebrations for Team Esper this week as they completed their first ever independent shopping trip without a support person! The dynamic duo are really starting to grow as a team and everything is falling into place for Esper to support handler E! 💜 Today we caught up with one of our past clients and previous graduate Martha. After graduation some of our teams will choose to work independently depending on their individual needs / circumstances. It is always so fantastic to catch up and see everything they have been up to together. 💜 This March we are holding a fund raising raffle. All proceeds go towards Assistance Dog Jackets for our life changing dogs! There are 2 raffles being drawn. Draw 1 is a 100 square with a £25 prize, £1 entry per square. Draw 2 is a 100 square with a £50 prize £2 entry per square. On the 31st of March 2024 1 winner from each draw will be selected at random when all the squares are taken. 💜 Todays post is one of celebration but also some sadness. Due to Myla’s allergies progressing to being triggered by environmental factors, it has been decided that we will not be progressing with her Public access training. Instead, we are proud to graduate her as a Home based Assistance Dog. 🎓Animal welfare will always be of utmost priority and therefore whilst it is devastating that her training journey has been cut short, I am sure she will continue to improve her persons quality of life by providing her valuable tasks within the home. Myla has a lovely temperament, a love for work and learning new things and may just have the strongest understanding of the training language I have personally ever seen. I have no doubts that if the circumstances were different she would have breezed through her Public Access and Advanced Assessments. My thoughts are with the team as they process this decision. To beautiful Myla, thankyou for all you have taught me, and the enjoyment I have gotten from each of our training sessions and getting to know you. They have displayed some amazing teamwork supporting each other in the new environment and we are so excited to see what this means for them in the Future. 💜 The second and third sessions of the most recent road trip were both for this shaggy little super star. After some poor health trainer Nicky helped Team Bud settle back into their Public Access training. Bud showed us that you would never know he had time off navigating a busy Tesco confidently and even was able to assist his handler with mitigating tasks. The session focused on breaking down large environments into more achievable steps for both dog and handler. An incredibly successful session to finish up the road trips for the year. 💜🦜Today Team Arlo visited trainer Nicky , Casper the African Grey Parrot and 2 fluffy house bunnies to practise visiting houses with a diverse range of pets. Though a very exciting environment Arlo managed to calm himself and soon realised disengaging from the other animals meant a nice tasty treat. Today Team Miko met with trainer Nicky to map out strategies for their final elements of Certificate Two and beginnings of desensitisation to their working environment. 💜 The next update is unfortunately an emotional one from Team Skylar. As some of you may know, recently Skylar was pulled from working whilst we investigated into some recent concerns in Skylar’s health. Skylar has developed sporadic head tremors and was not her usual bubbly self. It has been a hard process for the Team, including specialist vets and tests. We are so greatful that the results have determined the symptoms are not life threatening. However we have had to make the difficult decision to retire Skylar from working. An Assistance Dog’s welfare much always take absolute top priory, and handler J should be commended on her dedication to putting Skylar first. Though Skylar loves to work and is thriving with her training, we need to make the best decision for her health. Skylar, have the absolute cosiest retirement. 💜 Our expressions of interest are now closed. With a total of 78 applications this intake has had the biggest interest yet! In 2024 Part of the Pack will be taking on between 8 and 20 clients. Whilst we wish we could help everyone we are limited as a small business. Over february we will undertake a total of around 50 hours of pro bono (unpaid) work to facilitate free 30 minute consultation calls with each of our applicants. These calls are designed to learn more about individuals personal circumstances, what they would like to achieve in the program and to allow candidates to get to know trainer Nicky. After these calls a portion of candidates will move onto in person initial assessment. We are so thankful for the huge amount of interest received.
