ABOUT US VIDA Dog Training and Perfectly Polite Dachshunds (i.e. Bridget Warns and Sharon Alton) are merging to run “Click to Calm” training sessions and 121’s in the Norfolk area. We are thrilled to have the support and guidance of Emma Parsons in running these sessions as one of, if not the first in the UK – certainly the first in Norfolk. Please contact us via messenger or at our email address [email protected] for more information on sessions and 121’s. We endeavour to run 121’s across Norfolk and sessions between Norwich and Kings Lynn. With a rise in aggression people with antisocial dogs are feeling more and more isolated. Fresh from the USA this unique technique uses a clicker to ‘mark’ the desired behaviour and ‘re-programme’ your dogs perception of the world. To quote Emma’s website: “The “Click to Calm” methodology teaches the handler how to communicate and interact with her dog safely in a formerly challenging environment. In turn, the dog learns how to keep himself safe by maintaining emotional self-control. Instead of the dog reacting at the end of his leash, he remains a thinking dog and gives his attention directly to the handler. Once this happens, the handler can then insert alternate or incompatible behaviors for him to perform. Eventually the cue of the aversive stimulus (commonly strangers and other dogs) becomes the cue, in and of itself, to give the handler voluntary eye contact.”
Group sessions will be restricted to 4 dogs, with both of us running each session together. That’s one trainer to two dogs! This will ensure no one is left out and the issues you are having are addressed. The sessions are strictly for aggressive or reactive dogs. Background on Bridget and Sharon:
Having worked and owned various dogs including her beloved German Shepherds for many years, Bridget set up VIDA (Very Important Dog Activities) in 2013 after spending 7 years as local Obedience Club trainer in Norfolk training all levels of the KC Good Citizens Scheme. She is a Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme Bronze assessor. Bridget has an HNC in Animal Science and Welfare. She has worked very hard to promote the training of dogs using fair and empathic methods using fun, modern and up to date training techniques. Her focus has always been on the life skills which all dogs need to live in our modern world. Her particular focus has been on rescue dogs as well as companion puppies and dogs. She was the first person to be awarded “Excellence” when gaining her PDTI Advanced award in 2016 and is now a junior tutor and assessor on the course. She is a Professional member of the organisation. Bridget has attended many workshops and seminars over her career which has added to her wealth of experience Other awards/memberships: 2010 British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers (BIPDT) 1st Grade Instructors Certificate & affiliate BIPDT member. Scentwork UK Qualified Instructor. Authorised Pet Animal Microchip Implanter ( PetDetect) Space Dogs Yellow Ribbon registered trainer No: 016
Sharon has been training dogs since 2001 after attending classes with 2 unruly border collies. She volunteered there as an assistant trainer in a busy club in London for 10 years until moving to Norfolk. Taking some time out to raise her son she focused mainly on 121’s for training and behaviour whilst building her academic knowledge. As a dachshund enthusiast, breeder and owner she set up Perfectly Polite Dachshunds to help owners across the country address the increase in aggression being seen across the breed. She has owned (and is owned by) a variety of breeds and enjoys working with most types of dogs but has a passion for working with aggressive dogs. She feels many problems are to do with our perception of our dogs and like Bridget encourages an empathic approach to training. She is currently studying for a Law Degree, with an intention to specialise in Dog Law, and is also studying Applied Canine Behaviour Level 5 Diploma with Compass with the intention to continue on to level 6. She gained her Level 5 Diploma in Canine Training and Behaviour Management with Harper Adams in 2015 and her PDTI Advanced award in 2015. She is also a tutor and assessor on the PDTI Instructors Course. Other awards/memberships Kennel Club Accredited Instructors – Working towards accreditation Turn and Face – working towards certification.
