The month of May marks the start of National Walking Month.

Why not take advantage of the lighter evenings by going for a gentle stroll with your dog?

You do not have to pound the pavements to reap the benefits: just 30minutes of walking a day is enough to increase cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones and boost your mental health!

from 10 June 2024 it will be compulsory to have your cat microchipped and cat owners could be fined if they do not comply.

MICROCHIPPING FACTS...

A microchip is the size of a grain of rice and is placed under the skin by a suitably trained person (vet, animal charity or local authority).

Microchips contain a unique code that is registered on a national database. If he or she strays, this means they can be scanned with a reader and reunited with their owner if they are found. This is also helpful if an injured cat is bought in by member of the public and we need to contact the owner urgently.

They are permanent and will last the lifespan of your cat.
Cat microchips can also keep other cats out of your house if you have a microchip-activated cat flap, and restrict food access if you have a microchip food bowl.

Cat microchips can be implanted at any age, although many are done when they come in for neutering.

Microchips are INCLUDED as part of our Healthy Pet Club.

For more information on this scheme go here: https://www.thehealthypetclub.co.uk/
Book in now with a nurse for a free consult and implantation of a microchip if your cat does not have one!

Meet Mog and Dave! 🐱💜

They came to visit the practice for neutering last week.

They were both star patients and enjoyed lots of fuss from the nurses!!

During their visit Mog and Dave both had a microchipped placed, this was important as from the 10th June 2024 it will be a legal requirement for cats to have a microchip.

This means it will be compulsory for all cats to be microchipped by then and failure to do so will results in fines.

If you are a member of The Healthy Pet Club microchipping is FREE and included in your plan!

If your cat is needing a microchip please call the practice to book

CONFIDENCE CLINICS ! 🐶 🩺

Does your dog get stressed when visiting the vets?
Do you dread vet visits?

Fear not! We have a solution for you.
Our canine behaviourist, Rebecca, has set up confidence clinics to help your nervous/stressed dogs gain the confidence and skills to be able to successfully navigate a trip to the vets.

The sessions are tailor made to each dogs individual needs.
These can be things such as:
🔘 Nail clipping desensitisation
🔘 Injection desensitisation
🔘 Muzzle training
🔘 General handling and restraint training
🔘 Desensitisation of common equipment used during a consult (stethoscope, microchip scanner, otoscope) and much more!

The confidence clinics are a 6 week course with each session lasting 30 minutes long.

If this sounds like something you and your dog needs, please contact the surgery on:

You may never have seen behind the consultation room in a veterinary practice.

So take a look at the work our vets and nurses do on the front line every day to look after animals in veterinary practices, hospitals, in the field and on call - so that they receive the best possible care.

Thanks to Molly Case for the poem you have written about our profession.

Applying eye drops or ointment to your cat:

•🐾 Hold your cat firmly but gently - having a second person to help will make it easier,
or you can try wrapping the cat in a towel or blanket if they are wriggly.

• 🐾Hold your cat’s head in your hands, tilting the head so the nose is pointing upwards

• 🐾Open the eyelids gently on one side with a thumb and finger

•🐾 Place a few drops or a line of ointment on the surface of the eye (as directed by
your vet)

•🐾 Close the eyelids and massage gently to spread the medication over the whole of
the eye
