(138)

Back then Brian was a small animal and equine vet covering Wroxham and the surrounding areas. Annie was the receptionist and nurse and from there the practice has grown. Changes and shifts within the veterinary profession saw vets diversify in large animal, equine and small animal practice; thus the practice became the small animal practice it is today. Lots of the staff have been with Bridge for

over twelve years. David Martin joined the practice back in November 2004 as a small animal vet, his role changed over the years to lead vet and then in November 2015 when Brian and Annie retired, David purchased the practice to become lead vet and director, along with his wife, friends and colleagues Roger Bannock and Tom Robertson. David and Marie Martin, with the help and support of their colleagues have ensured Bridge continues as a friendly family run, independent practice offering a full range of first opinion veterinary care for dogs, cats, rabbits and family pets, along with providing a personal, caring environment for the treatment and well being of all your pets.

Remembrance Day

Today is dedicated to honouring military personnel who lost their lives in service to their country. Wearing a poppy is a show of support for the service and sacrifice of our armed forces, veterans and their families. It represents all those who lost their lives on active service, from the beginning of the First World War right up to present day.

We would also like to take a moment to remember the animals that also served and invite you to join us.

National Stress Awareness Day

While stress can sometimes serve as a helpful motivator, too much of it can negatively impact our mood, body and mind.

This is where our pets play an important role. They can greatly help reduce stress and boost mental well-being. Interacting with pets has a soothing effect on the body, helping to lower blood pressure, ease anxiety and increase feelings of social support.

Petting or cuddling animals can release oxytocin , a hormone that promotes relaxation and bonding, while also lowering cortisol levels, which are linked to stress.

Feeling stressed? Take a few extra moments today to cuddle your pet and ease those feelings of tension.

Have you lost a tortoise?

We have had a very friendly Mediterranean tortoise brought in to us this afternoon. It was found at Eaton Park.

It is roughly 16cm long and 12cm in width and sadly no microchip found.

If you think it is your tortoise then please call us on 01603 783920. Proof of ownership will of course be required.

πŸ’š Lily and Toby πŸ’š

These two superstars very kindly donated blood to the practice recently that we could use for other patients. We are incredibly grateful to them and their wonderful owners for being so generous. They both had excellent taste in toys too!!

🍁 Autumn 🍁

As the leaves start to change colour and the nights start to draw in there are a few things to watch out for to keep your pets safe.

πŸŽƒ Antifreeze - smells and tastes sweet due to the alcohol content so curious pets may lap up spills or chew on bottles. Antifreeze is hugely toxic to cats and every year cats across Britain are seriously ill or die from antifreeze poisoning. Keep bottles locked away out of pets reach.
πŸŽƒ Wild mushrooms - most wild mushrooms are non- toxic, however the few that are dangerous can be life threatening for dogs. Try to avoid your pet eating wild mushrooms where possible.
πŸŽƒ Acorns - these can cause a blockage in the digestive tract and also cause your pet to have an upset tummy.
πŸŽƒ Conkers - again they can cause an upset tummy or a blockage in the digestive tract. Try not to let your pet eat them.
πŸŽƒ Halloween sweets and chocolate - both theobromine ( in chocolate) and xylitol (in some sweets) can be dangerous for your pet to consume try to keep these out of the way so that they are not tempted to try a few!

We hope you and your pet enjoy this beautiful season uneventfully - however if you do have any concerns the team are always on hand to advise.

Isn’t she beautiful? We were lucky enough to look after this little lady last week when she was in for neutering. We can see why she was named after a goddess 😍.

πŸŽ† Firework Season πŸŽ†

It will soon be that time of year again when the skies are lit up with fireworks. Not all pets cope well with this but there are things that you can do to help them prepare.

You could play desensitisation recordings
Some dogs will find relief in anti-anxiety wraps
Speak to a vet or nurse about over the counter stress/anxiety supplements or medication
Ensure that your pets are microchipped and have up to date ID tags in case they get spooked.
Think about where you can create a safe place for your pet to hide should they need it.

As always the team will be on hand to answer any queries.
