Did you know that, just like humans, dogs can also suffer from cataracts? 🤔

A cataract is an opacity of a structure inside the eye called the lens. The lens is usually clear and transparent, helping focus images onto the retina at the back of the eye.

This means that cataracts can interfere with your pet's vision and, in severe cases, may even cause blindness. When this happens, you may notice your pet bumping into things.

Cataracts in dogs can be caused by trauma, old age or be secondary to an underlying disease, such as diabetes mellitus.

Fortunately, cataracts can be treated surgically using the same technique that's used to treat cataracts in people. The cloudy lens is removed from your dog's eye and replaced by an artificial implant. 👀

If your dog's eyes look cloudy, bluish-grey or if you notice a change in your pet's eyesight, do not hesitate to get in touch with us!

Fireworks might feel a long way off, but the best time to build your pet’s confidence is now, before the bangs begin. Try these early-prep steps:

👉 Play a firework soundtrack at barely audible volume during play or mealtimes and raise the level slowly over time.

👉 Pair each session with a high-value treat or favourite toy, so your pet links the noise with good things.

👉 Keep sessions short (five minutes is plenty to start).

Does your pet struggle with firework season? Share in the comments!

Assistance dogs are trained to help people with disabilities live more independent lives. They’re truly heroes! 🦸‍♂️

If you’d like to help, there are plenty of things you can do, such as volunteering with an organisation that trains guide dogs, donating or fundraising.

And if you’re looking into expanding your family, why not adopt a retired guide dog or a dog that hasn’t managed to complete their training?

Dogs and cats rarely complain outright, so small changes in their habits often give clues that something is wrong with their urinary tract. 🔍

Red flags to watch out for:

👉 Frequent stops with little urine production

👉 Straining or any visible effort, vocalisation or tense posture when passing urine

👉 Blood in urine

👉 Strong or foul smell

👉 Persistent attention to the v***a or p***s after weeing

👉 Sudden accidents at home from pets who are trained

👉 Increased (or decreased) urination

If you notice one or more of these signs, get in touch with us right away. 📞🐶🐱

Did you know your furry pals age about seven times faster than humans? 📆🐶 But wait, it's not a one-size-fits-all calculation! Each dog is unique, and their age in human years isn't just a simple 7x formula.

Different breeds, shapes, and sizes mean varied timelines for maturity and lifespans. 🐕 Small breeds tend to enjoy a longer life and take their sweet time growing up compared to their larger buddies.

Size does matter in the dog world, and genetics play a role, too! 🧬

Share a pic of your pet in the comments with a guesstimate of what their human age would be! 🐶

There are a million different sleeping places for our pets to choose from, and usually, the ones they like the best are the ones we wish they wouldn’t!

Your clean clothes, the new sofa, your kids’ beds, that broken box you’ve been meaning to throw in the bin, the bathroom sink that you don’t know how it can be comfortable or (if you’re really lucky) that expensive pet bed you got them.
