Morning all, we are working our way in to 2025, lets hope for a brilliant year! Heres a few pics from the field and one from a beautiful autumn evening 2024. The two big boys whiskey ,31 and lucky-boy, 10. Both boys retired due to injury years ago.
None of us know when injuries will break us, some times an accident, other times someone’s fault. We should all have the right to grow old. As we age we dont look as pretty as we once did but we should be loved for who we have become not ridiculed for what we have become!
We will always help older creatures be happy:)
Love who you have become dont hide your weaknesses! Age can be beautiful, disability is just life, live it!!
These guys have a safe place because of you, thank you xx

🎄 MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM PEANUT 🎄

Peanut, the Frenchie, who so many of you kindly donated to her fundraiser for her life changing ear operation, loved opening her presents with her brothers, Diesel and Teddy this morning - along with her wonderful family.

Peanut, and all the animals at Hallswood wish everyone a very Merry Christmas 💜

🎄🎉 A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL 🎉🎄

2024 has definitely been a rollercoaster for Hallswood, but through all of the many ups and some challenging downs, we have been supported not only by our amazing staff and volunteers, but by the huge community that the Sanctuary has come to know and love over the years.

Whether you’ve supported us by adopting a new pet family member (we’d love you to share photos!), attending one of our famous pop up stalls (the cakes are legendary, no?), by donating or buying items in our shops, by answering our appeals for electric fans in the summer months, or simply by commenting or sharing our posts on here, along with your generous monetary donations (every penny really does count) - we really couldn’t have continued to do what we do without you all.

To the staff and volunteers who work at the main sanctuary site and the other satellite sites - who are there to care for the many hundreds of animals, come rain, shine, and everything else - you are all AMAZING. You save and change animals’ lives each and every day 💜

A special thanks goes out to our superb fundraising team, the recycling team, the incredibly caring animal foster team and the transport team - all of whom are volunteers and give so much of their time freely.

There are also the numerous local businesses and organisations who have given their time, knowledge and donations.

A massive thanks to Rackheath Vets, who through their knowledge and care have saved and changed the lives of many of our animals.

The brilliant staff and customers at Jollyes Norwich - The Pet People for donating thousands of Pounds in animal food and other items.

Behind Closed Paws Adventure Park for allowing our dogs to have unlimited play and exercise visits.

Dunelm Norwich branch and their customers for supporting the Sanctuary through their Dunelm Delivering Joy scheme.

Green Lane Charity Stall for the tireless fundraising events held throughout the years - they’re always a huge success and put together with so much love.

And the numerous others who have supported us this year and in years before.

Lyz will be giving her own update in the coming days - there’s some really exciting things in store for Hallswood in 2025 and we are hoping that you can all be a part of it 💜

Once again, thank you SO MUCH to everyone - we are so lucky to have each and every one of you.

Here’s to 2025 and many more years of being able to help and care for Norfolk’s wildlife, domestic and livestock animals.

MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL 💜

💜 Supporting animals and their humans in the community 💜

We offer all sorts of types of adoption.

With older owners often the worry is “what happens if?” Well, long term adoption is the answer in our opinion!

Charlie is a quirky cat with loads of love to give.

The company and love shared between these guys is amazing.

Each party receives the best any of us could ask for: a friend when a friend is needed most.

Living alone in your twilight years can be lonely - sometimes a partner with health needs can benefit from a special bond that only fur family member can offer.

We have no upper age limit and support the pet with volunteer transportation to vet appointments and cover basic veterinary support.

We are as flexible as is possible - offering support to the needs of both parties.

If you would like to be considered for this service or would like to support this arrangement please let us know!

Volunteering your time and the pennies we raise makes this possible.

Charlie has changed this couples life and in return, the couple are making a older cat’s life 100% special :)

🎄📣 Christmas food warning for dogs and other animals 📣🎄

Vets see an increase in food related admissions for dogs at this time of year and it’s really important that owners know about the foods that can make your dog(s) really sick.

If your dog ingests something that is considered toxic for dogs, don’t wait - your vet immediately.

Symptoms can include vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, excessive drooling, abdominal pain, seizures and is not exhaustive.

Here are the most common foods that are dangerous for dogs -

🐶 Christmas Pudding
🐶 Chocolate
🐶 Cooked bones
🐶 Mince pies
🐶 Onions & garlic
🐶 Grapes & raisins
🐶 Alcohol
🐶 Mushrooms
🐶 Excess sugar & fats

Taking photos of or the packaging along with you to the vets to help them treat your dog effectively.

💜 The BIGGEST of THANKS to the amazing Recycling for Hallswood Animal Sanctuary team 💜

For six (6) years, the wonderful team of volunteers have raised thousands and thousands of Pounds for the sanctuary.

Sue and her team, including Ashley, Jenny and Mel, will step back from their roles on the 3rd January 2025 and we can’t thank them enough for their years of hard work and commitment to the sanctuary.

Their efforts have not only raised thousands in aide for the Sanctuary animals, but also prevented thousands of kilograms of recyclable materials from going to landfill.

Thank you also to everyone who has donated their recyclables to the various schemes Sue and her team have used over the years.

Hallswood will be able to continue to receive a number of recycling and refurbishment items that can be dropped off at any of our charity shops or the Sanctuary Shop in the Dixon Centre, Hellesdon.

You can find out which items can still be donated here - https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1JwvEBa1zi/?

A huge thank you again to Sue and her wonderful team. We are so grateful to you all.

🥕 Make the gift of vegetables this Christmas for our animals 🥕

Are you making a trip to the shops before Christmas Day? Have you got a New Years bash planned?

Can you donate a bag of carrots, parsnips, a stem or bag of Broccoli or a swede?

At this time of year, Aldi and Lidl, plus a few other retailers, offer greatly reduced prices for Christmas Dinner vegetables.

A lot of our animals also love these veggies!

If you’re doing one more shop before Christmas Day, we’d love it if you could add an extra bag of veggies to your shopping trolly to donate to the sanctuary.

Donations can be dropped off at the Sanctuary site in Stratton Strawless or the Sanctuary Pet Shop (closing at 2pm on Christmas Eve/Tuesday).

You can find the address for the Sanctuary and Sanctuary shop by following this link - https://www.hallswood.co.uk/shops

Thanks so much 🎄

🐑 Sanctuary Spotlight - get to know our animals 🐑

Hallswood is primarily known for the work we do with Norfolk’s wildlife, but we also care for lots of other animals so we thought we’d start sharing some of their stories.

Rudolf was found just before Christmas in 2018.

He only weighed 13kg!

For perspective, at 6 months old, you’d expect a similarly bred ram to be 35kg plus in weight.

Rudolf couldn’t even hold himself up on his own when he arrived, he had a nasty chest infection and parasites that were the worst Lyz had ever seen. He was literally dying in front of her eyes.

Rudolf spent the next 3 weeks in Lyz’s bedroom receiving intensive round the clock care and despite the slim odds, Rudolf survived and went on to be a very happy and health sheep and a much loved member of the Hallswood Animal Sanctuary clan.

Rudolf has now been living and thriving at the sanctuary for 6 years, along with other sheep friends, goats, horses and much more.

Your support helps us give life saving care to animals just like Rudolf.

We and the animals appreciate every single donation - no matter how small; it really does change lives!
