REUNITED πŸ’›

This lovely little girl has been bought into our Drayton Road shop this afternoon.

She is chipped but the chip provider doesn’t relinquish owner details to welfare organisations (which we are registered as) without them manually approving the request!!

If this is your dog, she is safe and well in our care.

Please get in contact if you think this is your or someone you knows dog.

Proof of ownership will be required.

Thanks πŸ’›

πŸ’› 🐱 FOUND - PARK LANE, NR2 - Black and white mid/long coated female cat 🐱 πŸ’›

Can we find the owner of this gorgeous girlie?

She was found on Park Lane, NR2 and sadly doesn’t have a microchip, which makes reuniting her with her owner more difficult.

This little lady was bought into us a few days ago as no owner had been found, despite her being posted on Chapelfield Vets social media, on a local lost and found group and a number of people hypothesising where she is from/who she belongs to :(

If you know who this cat belong to, or you are the owner, please get in touch :) you can message this page or email [email protected]

She has had to have a number of larger mats of fur removed to make her comfortable and she is a little on the lean side, but otherwise appears fit and well.

Proof of ownership will be required.

Thanks πŸ’›

πŸ¦† Duckling update! πŸ¦†

Remember our little pair of Ducklings who had a fairly dramatic start to their lives?

Well, they’re 3 and a half weeks old now and they’re getting big!

Their feathers are starting to come in and they definitely look more like ducks, than babies now πŸ’›

Their individual personalities are really shining through as well and they’re just a joy to have.

They still have another 3 or 4 weeks before they can transition to living outside as they have to be fully feathered before they do that, but until then, they enjoy their indoor pad, which is going to have to be extended in the next day or two!

πŸ’› πŸ¦” THE HOG WARD IS OPEN! πŸ¦” πŸ’›

Despite some setbacks (lots of re-wiring!), the fully refurbished Hog Ward is open!

We have been caring for Hogs for some months now but on a foster basis and it’s allowed us to help lots of Hogs, but having the Hog Ward up and running means we have the capacity to help many more now!

In order to help Hedgehogs quickly and effectively, we will have a triage system in place -

πŸ¦” If you find a Hedgehog that has obvious injuries (damage to limbs, open wounds etc), please contact Rackheath Vets, if possible, so that they can initially assess the Hog for us and prescribe any medication needed and provide us with a treatment plan. We can then take the Hog into our care for rehabilitation and release.

πŸ¦” If you find a Hedgehog that has no visible injuries or has fly eggs (Flystrike), please contact us via message on here or via email - [email protected] and we can advise on whether the Hog needs to come into us.

πŸ¦” Hedgehogs that we have agreed to take in, who aren’t coming to us via the vets, ideally need to be dropped off directly at the Sanctuary in Stratton Strawless.

We rely on a volunteer transport team and do our best to collect animals in need, but this is not always possible.

πŸ¦” When a Hog is taken to the vets or bought to us directly, you will need to leave your details with the staff so that - all being well - the Hog can be returned to you once it is fit for release, or if you would prefer not to have the Hog back, it will allow us to find a safe release spot close to where it was found.

*****

We look forward to welcoming more Hedgehogs in need to the Sanctuary; they’re animals that are very dear to our hearts and we have treated and released 1,000s of them over the years, and hope to do so for many years to come!

It's getting to that time of year again where we receive all kinds of weird and wonderful allotment veg! Got a glut of courgettes or bizarre marrows? We'll take them! More beetroot than you know what to do with? Send it out way! Broccoli plants that you've harvested the veg from and you're about to compost the leaves? We'll take those! Any fruit and veg bar onions, leeks and garlic would be gratefully recieved and can be dropped off to us directly at the Sanctuary on Shortthorn Road. Extra points if you make us laugh at the gate with rude shaped veg!

πŸ“ 🌢️ Chutneys and Jams aplenty! 🌢️ πŸ“

One of wonderful and very talented preserves makers has been hard at work producing some yummy new Chutneys, along with jams and marmalades of lots of different flavours.

We try and use locally sourced and donated fruits and vegetables whenever possible - thank you to those who regularly donate :)

Our preserves are available in our shops and at our popular pop-up shops, and other events.

⚠️ WARNING - graphic injury detail (un-edited photo in comments) ⚠️

A member of the public heard an awful sound coming from their garden, and she found a female Hedgehog that had just been mauled by a Badger 🦑.

Badgers are one of the few predators that will successfully attack, kill and eat Hedgehogs and this little girl was VERY lucky to survive the incident, but she has an uncertain and difficult road to recovery ahead of her.

The finder acted quickly and - on our recommendation - took the hog straight to our vets (Rackheath Vets).

The hog was checked thoroughly by the vets and was administered pain relief and the large wound was cleaned and examined. They also prescribed pain relief and antibiotics for her ongoing treatment at the Sanctuary.

A lot of our Hedgehog intake comes from our wonderful vets and this little girl then made her way to us.

Her future is very much in the balance - the wound is very large and there is significant damage to the soft tissue.

Thankfully, she will monitored and treated around the clock to give her the best chance of survival and recovery from her injuries, along with regular input from our vets.

If at any point in her treatment it becomes clear that she is not improving or is going down hill, we will have to look at euthanising her to end any suffering. It’s a heartbreaking choice to make, but one that comes from a place of compassion and love for the animal.

Please be vigilant if you have Hedgehogs in your garden but also have Badgers close by - Hedgehogs share a similar diet to Badgers and as a result are often foraging in proximity to a sett.

Thanks to her finder for transporting her to the vets and onward to the Sanctuary - her quick actions saved this Hedgehog from prolonged suffering and death by exposure in this current weather, if the Badger hadn’t have killed her outright πŸ’›
