🔴 SNOWBO HAS BEEN FOUND 🔴

Snowbo is missing again from Walsingham Drive in Thorpe Marriott.

He does not know the area and will be scared.

It’s imperative that we find him - he will not cope with the fireworks that will be bombarding the area over the coming days.

He may have gone to grown close to where he has gone missing so please check any outbuildings, sheds, dense foliage etc as he may be hiding there.

If you do see him but he won’t come to you, please get in contact asap via 07903830531

Thanks.

🦔Remember, remember… before you light a bonfire please check to make sure a hedgehog is not nesting in the timber pile🦔

Due to the mild weather, hedgehogs are not hibernating yet and they will use timber piles to nest in.

Ideally, a bonfire should be built on the same day it is to be lit – the longer you leave a timber pile the more likely a hedgehog will use it as a nesting place.

Never build a bonfire on a pile of leaves as a hedgehog could be hiding underneath.

Before lighting a bonfire, please check the entire timber pile as a hedgehog could be hiding in the base at the centre of the pile.

If you do find a hedgehog in your bonfire timber pile, please pick up the hedgehog carefully and relocate it to a safe location either under a hedge, bush or log pile.

Please share 🙏

🔴 MISSING - Snowbo, Walsingham Drive, Thorpe Marriott - NR8 6FZ - PLEASE SHARE 🔴

A number of you will have met Snowbo if you’ve visited the sanctuary site before.

He has managed to get out from his foster mums home. He does not know the area and will likely have gone to ground or has started to make the journey back to the sanctuary (about 1.5 miles away).

Worryingly, there have been no sightings of him at all since he went missing 4 days ago.

He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and a very distinctive all white in colour, with lime green eyes.

He may approach you as he’s a friendly boy but can be spooked easily.

If you sight him or are able to catch him, please contact us on 07903830531 asap or take him to Taverham Vets.

You can help us by printing out and sharing his poster.

Thanks 💜

The wonderful team at Jollyes Norwich - The Pet People have kindly donated a very full bin of fantastic pet items for the sanctuary animals.

⭐Actress Liza Goddard and Norwich City football icon Rob Newman urge animal lovers across Norfolk to donate to Hallswood Animal Sanctuary⭐

On Saturday 12 October 2024, actress Liza Goddard and Norwich City football icon Rob Newman and his wife Jo visited Hallswood Animal Sanctuary in Stratton Strawless and met with some of the staff, volunteers and resident animals, to learn more about the organisation and its plans for the future.

During its 28-year history, Hallswood Animal Sanctuary has been dedicated to improving the lives of wildlife and domestic animals in Norfolk through rehabilitation, education and community outreach.

Speaking today, animal lover Liza Goddard said “I really enjoyed meeting everyone and learning about Hallswood Animal Sanctuary, which cares for a wide range of animals at its sanctuary and in short-term and long-term foster homes. There’s a lot of hard work ahead at Hallswood but the organisation has an exciting future and I am looking forward to being involved in its journey.”

Liza Goddard added: “Hallswood Animal Sanctuary relies on the generosity of individuals and organisations to fund its work, and there are a number of ways in which we can help including making a financial donation; purchasing items from the Hallswood Animal Sanctuary Amazon Wish List; donating goods, services and our time; and by rehoming a Hallswood animal.”

Rob Newman explained: “Hallswood Animal Sanctuary currently has around 1000 animals in its care and during our visit to the sanctuary we got to meet some of their dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, pigs, geese, ducks, and ornamental birds. My wife Jo and I have always had a love for domestic animals and wildlife, and we very much look forward to making regular visits to Hallswood in the future to help out and get our hands dirty, as well as getting involved with some of the great fundraising initiatives that Hallswood is planning in 2025.”

Rob Newman added: “In the meantime, I’m asking all animal lovers across Norfolk to donate to Hallswood Animal Sanctuary today as the organisation and the animals in its care are depending on our support now more than ever before to help pay for feed, bedding, veterinary bills, routine medication, and fuel for the sanctuary generator this winter. Every donation really will help to make a difference!”

On 11 October 2024, PC Chris Shelley (Norfolk Constabulary) confirmed in writing to Hallswood Animal Sanctuary that none of the animals that remain on site at the sanctuary are considered under any police seizure. In the coming weeks Hallswood Animal Sanctuary will resume its animal rehoming programme and its work in rehabilitating wildlife, in accordance with the law and meeting the welfare needs of the individual animal/species.

For details on how to donate to and support Hallswood Animal Sanctuary please visit www.hallswood.co.uk/donate .

Further updates will be published on the Hallswood Animal Sanctuary website (www.hallswood.co.uk) and social media channels in due course.

🐈‍⬛Cat food for manure exchange🌷

Our cats need food … does your garden need manure?

We have lots of bags of well-rotted manure at the sanctuary and we’re inviting you to help yourselves to this in exchange for tins of cat food (1 tin of cat food for 1 bag of manure).

All cat food donations will be greatly appreciated by our resident felines who are currently eating approximately 40 tins of food every day.

According to Gardeners’ World, autumn is the best time to spread manure on the surface of bare soil on vegetable beds or around plants in borders as this gives worms and other soil organisms time to gradually take the manure into the soil before plants start growing again in spring. Applying manure in the autumn also helps protect the soil from heavy winter rains, which can lead to the leaching of nutrients.

You will find our bags of well-rotted manure next to the sanctuary entrance gate on Shortthorn Road, and cat food donations can be left inside the adjacent wooden shed - if the shed is full, please ring the bell.

On behalf of our resident felines, and our other animals, many thanks for your support! 🙏

⭐UPDATE AND AN URGENT APPEAL FOR FUNDING⭐

Since the publication of our holding statement three weeks ago, we have reviewed our business practices and have begun putting in place new systems to streamline our organisation to benefit the animals in our care as well as our staff, volunteers and supporters.

Volunteers, Alys Wyatt, Georgina Jay and Neil Featherby, supported by Frankie Rogers (Finance) and Karen Churches Peacock (Events, Marketing & Business Development), have taken the lead in the management of this process and the implementation of the administrative changes, all of which have received the approval of Lyz Hall, Director.

Georgina Jay and Neil Featherby, both successful business owners, have each been involved with Hallswood Animal Sanctuary for more than 10 years and they have helped to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for our organisation.

Alys Wyatt has been a Hallswood Animal Sanctuary volunteer since 2021, and she has dedicated thousands of hours of her time organising the rehoming of hundreds of Hallswood animals across Norfolk.

We are delighted that Alys Wyatt, Georgina Jay and Neil Featherby have agreed to continue providing their management services on a voluntary basis going forward, and they will be playing key roles in taking Hallswood Animal Sanctuary on its next journey.

The sanctuary team, led by Jo Mansford (Sanctuary Manager) and Ash Marshall (Site Manager), has also been hard at work taking care of hundreds of animals, carrying out site maintenance, and upgrading some of our animal enclosures.

The Police and RSPCA have recently confirmed verbally that we can rehome animals and take in wildlife. However, as a precautionary measure, we will not begin doing so until we have received confirmation in writing.

To date, Lyz Hall has not been charged with any wrongdoing.

⭐URGENT APPEAL FOR FUNDING⭐

We currently have over 1000 animals in our care including horses, ponies, donkeys, dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, pigs, sheep, geese, ducks, ornamental birds and fish. These animals are either living at the sanctuary or in short-term or long-term foster homes, and we urgently need your support now to help pay for feed, bedding, veterinary bills, routine medication, and fuel for our generator this winter.

Whatever you can spare, please donate to Hallswood Animal Sanctuary today - our animals really are depending on you now more than ever before!

🎉GREAT NEWS … Hallswood Animal Sanctuary has been chosen as a beneficiary of the recent East Ruston Cottages charity pot! We are extremely grateful to everyone that voted for us and to East Ruston Cottages and Sally at The Lookout for selecting us as a beneficiary 🙏♥🦌🦊🦡🦡

Poor Sally at The Lookout! She offered to choose the other 2 charities/rescues from the very, very long list and it was a very, very hard job!

She has chosen AFOT - Animal Friends of Turkey - given the recent horrific change in the law there, they are up against some awful times ahead 🥹

https://rehome-a-rescue-dog.co.uk/

And her other choice is Hallswood Animal Sanctury. A Norfolk based wildlife rescue centre and another very deserving choice.

https://www.hallswood.co.uk/

I am SO sorry again that we can't help all the charities and rescues that clearly you all feel so passionate about and thank you again so much for taking the time to nominate the ones that mean so much to you. Sue xx

HAPPY NATIONAL WILDLIFE DAY! 🦔🦌🦊🦡

Founded in 2005 by animal behaviourist and philanthropist Colleen Paige, National Wildlife Day encourages people to learn about and appreciate the animals that share our planet. And around the world animal lovers and nature enthusiasts are coming together today to bring awareness of endangered animals.

The 2022 State of Britain's Hedgehogs report found that hedgehog populations have declined by 30–75% since 2000, with the largest declines in eastern England.

At Hallswood Animal Sanctuary we care for multiple species of wildlife including hedgehog, deer, fox and badger.

Please consider donating to Hallswood Animal Sanctuary today and support our work in caring for Norfolk’s wildlife. Many thanks in advance for your support … every penny really does make a difference!

❌ ANIMAL WELFARE & ABUSE TOWARDS STAFF & VOLUNTEERS ❌

This is the sort of post no one wants to have to put out there, but - sadly - after an incident last night, we feel we need to make a little psa.

WE WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY FORM OF ABUSE TO THE SANCTUARY STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS.

It’s that simple. We all spend countless hours dedicating ourselves to helping and healing animals of all shapes and sizes. Lyz will often go without any sleep to go and help an animal in distress in the middle of the night.

We care for literally thousands of animals on site at the sanctuary at any one time and we are taking in more and more as large rescue organisations are telling people to contact us rather than offering help themselves.

We are CONSTANTLY looking at ways to improve - we wouldn’t truly care for our animals welfare if we weren’t always educating ourselves for ways to enrich their lives while they are in our care.

BUT we aren’t perfect. No one is.

We can do better and thanks to ongoing fundraising efforts from our amazing team and supporters - we have some really awesome events coming in the near future! - we are planning to replace and extend a number of our existing animal enclosures to meet the ever evolving care needs for wild and domestic animals.

The images included in this post tell a story and that is of the space requirements for housing domestic pet rabbits.

The Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund recommend an area of 10x6x3ft to house rabbits. Our current enclosures are a minimum of 8x4ft with unlimited head height and this is something we are actively working on improving.

We want to be transparent and we want to be honest.

The screenshot of part of a text message Lyz received relates to the hutch in the third photo.

It is simply not acceptable to make accusations like that when all someone is trying to do is help and to make a suggestion that a hutch that is barely 3x2ft in size is not suitable accommodation for a rabbit.

This person went on to provide evidence of why that hutch was suitable - sadly, that evidence was a screenshot from the Governments website that shows the woefully inadequate and inhumane space requirement for rabbits that will be raised and killed for their meat!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE - if you have a concern or a question, send us a message - you can text Lyz on +447549991920, you can message this page, you can email us at [email protected] - we want your feedback and input, it helps us grow and learn, but PLEASE don’t be rude or abusive while doing so.

We do our best to reply to you as soon as possible and sometimes that can take a while, especially as Lyz can receive literally hundreds of calls and messages in a day asking for help and advice.

Thanks all 💜
