❔❔❔Did you know.....❔❔❔
Neospora Caninum is a parasite that can infect cattle, sheep, goats and camelids. Neospora is the most commonly diagnosed cause of bovine abortion or stillbirths in the UK, and its prevalence is growing worldwide. Farm animals are at risk from infected dog faeces. Please be mindful of other animals and clean up after your dog when walking in the countryside.

We humans may love the warm and sunny weather, but hot days aren't as much fun for our dogs. Dogs often suffer from heat-related stress and are susceptible to heat stroke, which can be fatal. To prevent this, it's important to know how to keep them cool and comfortable during hot summer days. Here is 5 ways in which you can aid with keeping your furry friends cool during the summer heat!

➡️A heat-health alert has been issued for parts of England, with temperatures predicted to hit 30C (86F) on Friday.

✅ Recent research by Vet Compass and the The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) showed correlation between human heat warning and heat stroke cases.

➡️⁉️ Dogs DO NOT DIE from missing a walk. They might if you risk taking them out in these temperatures. Yes, veterinary professionals are extremely good at treating heatstroke, and many cases can be saved, but it's a dangerous risk that is not worth it, 26.56% of the dogs with heatstroke died. Nearly half (48.7%) of the dogs with heatstroke were dog breeds with flat faces. Flat-faced dog breeds were four times more likely to develop heatstroke than normal-faced dogs.

☀️ Protect your animals from the heat ☀️

🌞Dogs can get heat stroke on hot walks

🌞Animals get heatstroke in hot hutches they cannot escape

🌞Animals can get heatstroke if left in rooms with no ventilation

🌞Animals can get heatstroke if they have no access to cool water

➡️ The Met Office's highest warning covers an area including London, Manchester and York on Monday and Tuesday.

❗It means there is a risk to life and daily routines will need to change.

❗☀️ That includes your animals!

We are hopefully aware now of the national UK campaign 'Dogs Die in Hot Cars' - this advice remains!

However, work by VetCompass has shown that 10 times as many dogs present for veterinary care related to heat-related illness (HRI) following exercise as dogs that present following being entrapped in a vehicle.

The most commonly cited reasons for triggering heat-related illnesses were exercise (51.46% of cases), hot environment (31.02% of cases) and hot vehicles (12.41%).

➡️Remember there could be a number of risk factors including:

✅Brachycephalic breeds
✅Age - juvenile or geriatric
✅Thick Coated Dogs
✅General Health
✅ Other illnesses

❌Do not leave animals in hot cars
❌Don't take your dog to the pub all day in the heat
❌Do not walk your dogs in the heat - remember even when the sun is down they may still get too hot while exercising if the temperature is still hot
❌ Ensure they aren't locked in rooms with no ventilation
❌Do not lock rabbits and guinea pigs in hutches with no escape from the heat

✅ Provide plentiful cool, fresh water
✅ Provide shade, ventilation and cool breeze ( consider using a fan)
✅Give them cool mats to lie on
✅ Engage in enrichment to boredom bust
✅ Provide rabbits and small furries with cool frozen bottles, shade, ventilation, escape from the heat and plentiful water

Don’t let flystrike be an issue this summer! Get flystrike prevention for your bunny with the Pet Health Club! Not sure what flystrike is? It’s a serious condition that can be fatal to rabbits. It happens as a result of flies laying their eggs on a rabbit’s fur. Flies do this when the fur is dirty or damp, and it’s usually the fur around the rabbit’s bottom that is affected. The eggs hatch into maggots and these maggots eat away at the rabbit’s skin, which can lead to severe infection and in some cases, death. It’s preventable with regular treatment and ensuring your rabbit’s hutch is clean and their bottom is clean!

How's your knowledge of fleas? People often think if you can't see fleas on your pet, then there's no need to worry. However, this is not often the case. Fleas jump so quickly that it can be impossible to see them on your pet and often owners will only know if they notice flea dirt on their pet (🤢). When you see fleas on your pet, it's normally because the parasite treatment you've given them has started to work and they've slowed down. This is why giving regular flea treatment is important, to keep those pesky parasites off our floofy pets. Pet Health Club has got you covered, with year-round protection for fleas, ticks, worms and any other icky parasites that may be lurking in your area.

🐰RABBIT AWARENESS WEEK🐰

What do rabbits call home in the wild?

Wild rabbits live all over our countryside, we are especially lucky in Norfolk having so much greenery around every corner. These habitats can cover farmland, grassy lands, and moorland, even in your garden...

Rabbits like to live in large groups in 'Warrens', these are large underground tunnel systems. Rabbit warrens vary in size.

Pet rabbits can live either indoors or outside. Either environment is suitable for your rabbits, as long as they have access to everything they need to stay happy and healthy.

🐰 RABBIT AWARENESS WEEK🐰

Did you know...

Rabbits are quite the social animals. In the wild, a collection of rabbits in a specific area is called a colony, or a fluffle! There can be between from 10 individuals to up to 50 rabbits!! A party!! Pet rabbits also need to live in suitable pairs or groups, it is not just the wild ones that like the company.

Companionship is important to our bunnies, and they’ll love living with a friendly fluffy face. Rabbits should only ever live with other rabbits, and they should both be neutered to prevent unwanted babies!!

From 10 June 2024 cats over 20 weeks old must be microchipped and registered on a compliant database. 🐾

This includes cats that usually only stay indoors.

By microchipping their cats, owners can increase the likelihood that they will be reunited with their beloved pet if they go missing.

More information on how to get your cat microchipped can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/get-your-dog-cat-microchipped

So 10 days ago, the dog warden and Eaton vets contacted Norfolk Greyhound Rescue to ask if we could take into our care this beautiful abandoned puppy lurcher, with a badly broken leg.
NGR didn't hesitate.
Rosie as she is now called is a beautiful and the most sweetest little puppy.
The good news is that Rosie had her surgery and is doing great. The best news is that this afternoon we did the home check and by the end of the week Olivia ( Rosie's vet) and husband will be officially adopting this bundle of love ❤️💜💙
