Hello everyone!

We hope you all had a wonderful weekend!😊 I am writing to provide an update on Greg's condition.

Last weekend, we returned to Great Western Exotics for a checkup with Tom. He was very pleased with Greg's progress since the surgery, and as he had no concerns, he was happy for us to head back home.

The checkup set us back a little more, but we are just happy to see Greg recovering. He has now completed the prescribed course of medication and is healing brilliantly.

We are truly grateful for all the support we've received so far. Thank you!🙌

Hello all!

We hope everyone has had a very Happy Diwali and Halloween too! I hope you’re all keeping well and enjoying the holidays.🙂

Unfortunately, I’m not popping online to make a fun post to mark these holidays. Instead, I’m here to talk about the turbulent week we’ve had at Lyly’s…

Last Saturday, we unexpectedly had to rush our beautiful little Greg down to Swindon to see the lovely vets and vet nurses of Great Western Exotics. You see, this found yet unclaimed canary was involved in a horrible accident last week. The incident saw Greg completely damage his entire right leg, with the break in his leg restricting blood circulation to the rest of his leg and foot. Much to our dismay and devastation, Sara (our incredible vet) concluded that Greg needed an amputation immediately. It was a very risky surgery, one that could’ve ended with Greg losing his life. So, with that, I kissed Greg goodbye and headed to the nearest hotel to stay on standby while Greg had his procedure. As you can probably imagine, I was in bits!

Thankfully, our prayers were answered, and Greg made it through that evening. He came out of his surgery as good as ever. What a strong little guy he is!!! I stayed in Swindon until he was deemed fit to be discharged. He’s now home with us resting up and will be on medication for a couple of weeks. Our next vet visit will be for his post-op checkup tomorrow.

Any bird, wild or pet, ours or not, deserves nothing less than the best. It goes without saying that we had no problem spending the time and money we did this week to help Greg, and we will never hesitate to make that sacrifice for any being in the future, either. I hope that our actions reflect our passion for the well-being of every bird we encounter.

With that having been said, the vet costs have been a lot for us to cover alone. So far, we have spent £810 on his healthcare, not to mention the steep travel and hotel costs paid to get Greg the help he needed and the money I lost out on by cancelling my work commitments.

For this reason, we are hoping to make some pennies back by fundraising over the upcoming weeks. I will be offering discounted services alongside selling handmade goods.
We also hope to run multiple raffles leading up to Christmas. So, if you have goods you can donate for sales and raffles or services you can provide as a prize for a raffle, please do drop us a Facebook message. The more prizes we have, the more locals we can attract to participate in the fundraisers!

In the meantime, should you wish to donate to us, you can find us on GoFundMe here: https://gofund.me/3986a43c
We will be opening a Paypal very soon for donations smaller than £5.

Please do consider sharing our upcoming fundraisers and our GoFundMe page with friends and family to support us if you cannot otherwise.

Thank you for standing with us always. Our community is one I will cherish for as long as I’m about!

Hi all!

We hope you're all keeping well. Just a quick one to say that I ran into a "technical issue" recently when a client's very cheeky bird attacked my laptop as I was using it and managed to break it in seconds! We never name or shame our VIBs (and we certainly don't snitch on them to their humans!), as we know that these things can't be helped. It comes with the job, I suppose?😅

But since I can't access Messenger or my emails from my work phone, I have been seriously struggling to keep in touch, especially when working away from home.

I apologise sincerely if this has affected you. I have managed to sort out a temporary fix for the time being so am (slowly but surely) getting back to all new client enquiries.

What a riveting job I have, ey?🤣

Happy Tuesday, friends!👋

I hope you lovely bunch are keeping well, birdies and hoomans alike!🥰

I'm just checking in this morning to update you on my whereabouts as I have been pretty absent yet high in demand recently. As honoured as I am to have the support and trust that I do, I'm now finding myself struggling to keep up with it all and thought I ought to put up a post regarding this to keep you all in the loop as I get back into the swing of things.

I, for the first time in years and years, left my own bird babies to go to Paris! Family from all over Europe got together to celebrate my cousin's wedding and reconnect for a few days. It's very rare that I ever even leave my flock for a night, and even rarer that I see my family... so it's no surprise that this was extremely emotional for me!

I took my work phone to Paris with me and (very stupidly) didn't sort any roaming out with my network provider for my time away. This is why many of you have been met with undelivered messages and have been sent straight to voicemail when phoning me. For this, I am SO sorry... especially to those getting in touch in emergencies and regarding any rescue efforts.

As many of you know, I do offer a helping hand to all locals who need help with any injured/poorly or missing/found birds, regardless of whether they are wild birds or pet birds. The majority of the work I do is work that is done for free, to help birds in need that otherwise wouldn't get the care they need. This is extremely time-consuming, emotionally draining, and often leaves my inbox folders filled with people requesting help and advice.

Coming back from my trip, I've found myself both totally POOPED due to travelling with chronic illness and extremely overwhelmed trying to catch up with everything here. I do feel a lot of guilt for missing out on helping people who rely on me to save our birds, especially when those birds don't make it as a result. So, to those who feel let down by my rescue efforts over the last couple of weeks, I am so sincerely sorry. I really wish I could've been around to help.

To my wonderful clients, you are like one big family to me, and I am truly sorry to keep you waiting so long for responses. I never want to keep you chasing me and am forever grateful to have you here! Rest assured, I have your bookings and appointments noted in my diary and ready to go so please don't think that you have been forgotten about.

I will be spending the next couple of days responding to all emails and messages. If you are expecting reports, advice, callbacks or booking confirmations and reminders, please be assured that you will hear from me soon.

Thanks always!
