Hello everyone!

We hope you all had a wonderful weekend!😊 I am writing to provide an update on Greg's condition.

Last weekend, we returned to Great Western Exotics for a checkup with Tom. He was very pleased with Greg's progress since the surgery, and as he had no concerns, he was happy for us to head back home.

The checkup set us back a little more, but we are just happy to see Greg recovering. He has now completed the prescribed course of medication and is healing brilliantly.

We are truly grateful for all the support we've received so far. Thank you!🙌

Hello all!

We hope everyone has had a very Happy Diwali and Halloween too! I hope you’re all keeping well and enjoying the holidays.🙂

Unfortunately, I’m not popping online to make a fun post to mark these holidays. Instead, I’m here to talk about the turbulent week we’ve had at Lyly’s…

Last Saturday, we unexpectedly had to rush our beautiful little Greg down to Swindon to see the lovely vets and vet nurses of Great Western Exotics. You see, this found yet unclaimed canary was involved in a horrible accident last week. The incident saw Greg completely damage his entire right leg, with the break in his leg restricting blood circulation to the rest of his leg and foot. Much to our dismay and devastation, Sara (our incredible vet) concluded that Greg needed an amputation immediately. It was a very risky surgery, one that could’ve ended with Greg losing his life. So, with that, I kissed Greg goodbye and headed to the nearest hotel to stay on standby while Greg had his procedure. As you can probably imagine, I was in bits!

Thankfully, our prayers were answered, and Greg made it through that evening. He came out of his surgery as good as ever. What a strong little guy he is!!! I stayed in Swindon until he was deemed fit to be discharged. He’s now home with us resting up and will be on medication for a couple of weeks. Our next vet visit will be for his post-op checkup tomorrow.

Any bird, wild or pet, ours or not, deserves nothing less than the best. It goes without saying that we had no problem spending the time and money we did this week to help Greg, and we will never hesitate to make that sacrifice for any being in the future, either. I hope that our actions reflect our passion for the well-being of every bird we encounter.

With that having been said, the vet costs have been a lot for us to cover alone. So far, we have spent £810 on his healthcare, not to mention the steep travel and hotel costs paid to get Greg the help he needed and the money I lost out on by cancelling my work commitments.

For this reason, we are hoping to make some pennies back by fundraising over the upcoming weeks. I will be offering discounted services alongside selling handmade goods.
We also hope to run multiple raffles leading up to Christmas. So, if you have goods you can donate for sales and raffles or services you can provide as a prize for a raffle, please do drop us a Facebook message. The more prizes we have, the more locals we can attract to participate in the fundraisers!

In the meantime, should you wish to donate to us, you can find us on GoFundMe here: https://gofund.me/3986a43c
We will be opening a Paypal very soon for donations smaller than £5.

Please do consider sharing our upcoming fundraisers and our GoFundMe page with friends and family to support us if you cannot otherwise.

Thank you for standing with us always. Our community is one I will cherish for as long as I’m about!

Hi all!

We hope you're all keeping well. Just a quick one to say that I ran into a "technical issue" recently when a client's very cheeky bird attacked my laptop as I was using it and managed to break it in seconds! We never name or shame our VIBs (and we certainly don't snitch on them to their humans!), as we know that these things can't be helped. It comes with the job, I suppose?😅

But since I can't access Messenger or my emails from my work phone, I have been seriously struggling to keep in touch, especially when working away from home.

I apologise sincerely if this has affected you. I have managed to sort out a temporary fix for the time being so am (slowly but surely) getting back to all new client enquiries.

What a riveting job I have, ey?🤣

Happy Tuesday, friends!👋

I hope you lovely bunch are keeping well, birdies and hoomans alike!🥰

I'm just checking in this morning to update you on my whereabouts as I have been pretty absent yet high in demand recently. As honoured as I am to have the support and trust that I do, I'm now finding myself struggling to keep up with it all and thought I ought to put up a post regarding this to keep you all in the loop as I get back into the swing of things.

I, for the first time in years and years, left my own bird babies to go to Paris! Family from all over Europe got together to celebrate my cousin's wedding and reconnect for a few days. It's very rare that I ever even leave my flock for a night, and even rarer that I see my family... so it's no surprise that this was extremely emotional for me!

I took my work phone to Paris with me and (very stupidly) didn't sort any roaming out with my network provider for my time away. This is why many of you have been met with undelivered messages and have been sent straight to voicemail when phoning me. For this, I am SO sorry... especially to those getting in touch in emergencies and regarding any rescue efforts.

As many of you know, I do offer a helping hand to all locals who need help with any injured/poorly or missing/found birds, regardless of whether they are wild birds or pet birds. The majority of the work I do is work that is done for free, to help birds in need that otherwise wouldn't get the care they need. This is extremely time-consuming, emotionally draining, and often leaves my inbox folders filled with people requesting help and advice.

Coming back from my trip, I've found myself both totally POOPED due to travelling with chronic illness and extremely overwhelmed trying to catch up with everything here. I do feel a lot of guilt for missing out on helping people who rely on me to save our birds, especially when those birds don't make it as a result. So, to those who feel let down by my rescue efforts over the last couple of weeks, I am so sincerely sorry. I really wish I could've been around to help.

To my wonderful clients, you are like one big family to me, and I am truly sorry to keep you waiting so long for responses. I never want to keep you chasing me and am forever grateful to have you here! Rest assured, I have your bookings and appointments noted in my diary and ready to go so please don't think that you have been forgotten about.

I will be spending the next couple of days responding to all emails and messages. If you are expecting reports, advice, callbacks or booking confirmations and reminders, please be assured that you will hear from me soon.

Thanks always!

Hello all!

The day is finally here for us to head out and vote! At Lyly’s, we preach standing up for what you believe in… whatever that may be. So please, friends, head off to your polling stations and make your voices heard!🤩

Our flock decided to show our support for the wonderful Teresa Needham of the Green Party today by casting our votes to her… and who better to represent us than our greenest bird with his greenest harness?!😄💚

So off we went, Mummy Hooman, Father Hooman and Mr Fıstık, to represent our family and to stand up for what we believe in! Needless to say, Fıstık stole many hearts and made the entire flock really, really proud. Hopefully, his head doesn’t get too big after his newfound fame!!!😳

We are so grateful to the brilliant volunteers at our polling station who showed us lots of love and support, and send our eternal thanks to our clients, friends and family for also using their votes today.🥰

Still unsure of who to vote for? Find out which candidate is best for you here: https://whocanivotefor.co.uk

Hi friends,

Please send our wonderful friends at Ilkeston Wild Bird Rescue lots of love and support through this difficult time they’re having. Their recent posts have been absolutely heartbreaking to read, as I’m sure you’ll agree. Selfless members of our community ought to be praised, celebrated and supported… Not have their home shot at!!!!! I just can’t find the words to express my frustration and sadness at this all. I’m hoping our support can at least uplift them through it.

Thankyou everyone for all your kind comments and messages after our post yesterday.
I barely slept all night. Couldn't stop thinking about my poor boy. His mate spent the night on my windowsill, where they used to roost together. Every day, I would get up, and they'd be waiting outside the door. Little squeak refused to even go to her breakfast this morning. She's just sat staring down at where Homer died. You wouldn't believe the love bonded pigeons have for each other. They should never ever be separated. My heart aches more for her than anything.
Here is my beautiful boy, Homer, before his life was cruelly taken. He was amazing, and we loved him so much.
The police are now involved. We have a crime reference number and are waiting to be contacted to start an investigation.

Despite the trauma of last night, we will reopen tomorrow for intakes.
We've been offered a safe sanctuary for the pigeons we currently have waiting to be released, which means our aviary will have space again. (Thank you so much 👏).
My amazing, wonderful friend Jay is going to take our crows for us. The adult will need a wing amputation (will need to fundraise for that operation nearer the time), and the fledgelings just need aviary space until September.
That leaves us an empty hospital wing with around 20 spaces for new intakes. Both of our incubators are now empty, clean, and ready to go on, and we've weaned all but 7 of our baby pigeons. They're currently outside in the small aviary, ready for the next stage of rehab.
We've released our blackbirds and other songbirds, and our remaining starlings are outside in the new songbird aviary, preparing to be released.
Thank you to everyone for your kindness, your time, shares, comments, and donations. Everything.
We didn't want to continue any more after what happened to Homer, but there are so many more lives out there that are going to need our help. Rescues everywhere are already past capacity and closing, and the remaining ones are having the roughest times, too. Please always be kind. ❤️
I work with an absolutely amazing group of rehabbers/rescues, and I'm so grateful to them. I wouldn't still be going if it wasn't for them. The support is endless. ❤️

If anyone wants to help towards food, bedding, medication, surgeries, or anything else, thank you so much. We wouldn't be able to continue without your guys' support. 💕

Please be on the lookout and let us know if you have any information. Keep an eye out for any lost birds and check the comment section for instructions on what to do if you come across one. Lastly, please share this post with anyone who may be able to help. Thank you for your help!

04/06/2024

Good evening all,

I hope you are well on this gloomy Tuesday we are having! I’m coming to you all with a very unusual post today… It’s one that I have debated making as I do not wish to associate myself or my business with the negativity and lack of professionalism of this bunch, however they have publically made false claims about Lyly’s Parrot Care Services and have insulted me personally.

The Facebook group, Lost Parrots & Birds Found UK ( https://facebook.com/groups/Tazzy2012/ ) was once a group that we would use to help our clients, local families of missing birds, and vulnerable found birds in the Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire areas. We had to stop doing this very early on as the admins were unhappy with us offering advice to others and free services to found birds.

One admin in particular has been very vocal about her dislike for me and my business. This admin is Alison Little, founder of The Haven Parrot Rescue. Alison has publically called me a fraud, “dodgy as hell”, and has privately told me that they need to protect birds from people like myself. You must be wondering why anyone would openly come out with these comments… Maybe she used my services and was unhappy with them? Or perhaps I have been insulting of her and her charity? Surely something must’ve happened to prove that I’m a dodgy fraudster who steals and mistreats birds? Wrong! There was absolutely 0 history or communication between myself and Alison prior to us offering help in this Facebook group. She is not aware of my professional and voluntary experience with birds, and of any qualifications I have. I wholeheartedly cannot even begin to understand why such defamatory comments have been made about us.

Alison claims that our business started on 9th Aug 2023, off the basis that I opened this page on the 8th. She hasn’t actually given me the chance to say this to her myself, but I’m sure many of you will know that the business was running for far longer under my own name, and that many small, local businesses do not have pages at all…

She claims that I do not know what I am doing when it comes to grooming found birds, off the basis that she assumes they are pointlessly cleaned off immediately after being found. I can’t tell you how she jumped to that conclusion either. I arrange to clean any found birds, free of charge, to help those who find them wounded or dirty and don’t know how to care for them. This is arranged to happen two or three days after the bird has been found and has rested, unless the bird is wounded in which case their wounds will be cleaned immediately.

We very rarely offer to temporarily take in and assist with rehoming birds (I have only ever done this 3 times). As you can imagine, we are in over our heads with birds at times and are certainly not looking for any more pets!

The other admin in question is Jackie Amos, who as far as I can tell does not volunteer or work in this field. I have posted Jackie and Alison’s messages about my business, which were sent to me by Alison for no real reason that I am aware of, just so you can get an idea of what they have had to say about us. Unfortunately, Alison and Jackie are very quick to delete comments or revoke our access to them, so I can’t view, screenshot or share the public comments they have made.

As you may know, the money and time we spend rescuing animals and supporting families with birds, other rescues, and the birds in our own community trumps everything we have gained through this business by a long run! For this reason, it is particularly devastating to read the claims and countless insults made by the group admins and by Alison of The Haven Parrot Rescue. For this reason, we will now only recommend the group Lost & Found Parrot Team UK ( https://www.facebook.com/share/9uFsKUUyUig8vZBZ/?mibextid=K35XfP ) to you all, and since my personal and business accounts have been banned and blocked from the group of angry admins, and I can no longer see or share posts about birds in the area that may benefit from our help in the Lost Parrots & Birds Found UK group, I ask that these are forwarded to us through other means.

Finally, I ask that my clients and those who have benefitted from our rescue efforts continue providing reviews, messages and comments to prove the authenticity and positivity of Lyly’s. I also open my inbox to anyone with recommendations on how to proceed with cases of defamation by charity organisations.

Thank you, our ever-growing flock, for always supporting us,

Lyly x

Hello dear friends,

I know that we have been awfully quiet for many months now. While our regular clients are aware of the circumstances surrounding our temporary pause to this business, it has left many new ones wondering where we've been. This is all to be discussed very soon, with a relaunch of Lyly's just around the corner!

However, this evening I am popping online to ask that my clients share this poster to help our beautiful new friend reunite with her family. We have many wonderful supporters in the Sherwood area, so have no doubt that we will get to the bottom of this in no time.

In the meantime, please consider donating to support our ongoing rescue efforts, as those never stopped: https://gofund.me/2f7ca703

Lots of love to you all,
Lyly x
