It's been now about 2 years since this venture started. I am really happy to have kept helping so many more pets, owners and vet colleagues with pet-travel affairs and questions. I would like to thank everybody who has trusted me and somehow contributed to this growing success; particularly to all the vet practices that are often referring to me. Also, special thanks to the beloved Polish community, which is a great network that always keeps me busy :) Hoping to keep helping and posting pet-travel stories as until now!

It won't be possible for beautiful Archie to legally travel with her owners to Spain, she'll have to be rehomed ๐Ÿ˜• The only option would be neutering her, which would be radical, dangerous and unethical, then not really an option. As you can see, it's not always good news here. Monk parakeets are from America and considered invasive in Spain, and even a plague in some areas, where they spoil the native ecosystem. It's the same as rabbits in Australia, grey squirrels in Britain or pikes in many rivers around the world, to say some. This is not coincidental, it's always the same thing, always the hand of man, in the case of monk parakeets, irresponsible trade, breeding and ownership. One way or another, we wish the best for Archie at her new home in England, and being aware that she'll be visited often by her previous owners, once they settle in Spain ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿฆœ

I am hardly posting lately because I'm typically quite busy and I have to confess that I am not the best at social networks... ๐Ÿ˜ซ But today I had to post this, because to have helped Lola to travel abroad and then to have received this photo of Lola in "La Plaza de las Palomas" of Leรณn, my city in Spain, has really made my day!! ๐Ÿ˜

Hi all! Long time without posting! I hope that you are all doing alright! Among other things, I have lately been working on the revalidation of my Companion Animal Official Veterinarian qualification, and I thought that I wanted to share something with you that you may find interesting. Along the years that I have been living and working in the UK, I have realised that there is general lack of knowledge about the existence of Official Veterinarians (OVs) and their important role for the society. It is difficult to simplify, but I will say that the British OVs are vets that work on behalf of the Ministers of the British Government, at the highest standards, to try to meet British and international requirements regarding animal welfare and health (which includes your pets), and public health, in order to enable legal and compliant animal-related trade/movements. This is paramount, for other countries to maintain confidence in the quality of animal-related British exports, and for Britain to try to avoid the introduction of serious notifiable diseases of animal origin, as it can be the rabies. There is an ecosystem of agreements developed over many years under the World Trade Organization (WTO) to facilitate safe trade/movements while allowing countries (or trading blocs such as the EU) to put in place justifiable safeguards. These agreements are based on the best available science but also advise on how to deal with scientific uncertainty. In some cases, substantial negotiations may have taken place to ensure that certification is possible at all and/or that requirements are attainable for the UK. And last but not least, the OVs also actively ensure that veterinary ethics and the reputation of the veterinary profession are well kept. Although long, I hope that you found this meaningful and you know now a bit more about the OVs and what we do ๐Ÿ™‚

Pyta and family had a splendid time in Lithuania last summer. Poms are spitz-like dogs that descend from Baltic areas of Poland and Germany, often linked in the past to the royalty. They are typically brave, intelligent and energetic, and as my daughter would say (she got it from "Bluey"!) "Pomeranians are small but hardy breed!"

Cookie (girl, black smoked) and Biscuit (boy, silver black spotted). Moved last summer to Castellรณn (Spain). The F1 Bengal cat is a hybrid between domestic cat (especially the spotted Egyptian Mau) and Asian leopard cat. The Bengals kept as pets are classified as "SBT" (Stud Book Tradition) and not exactly the result of that primary cross, which would be quite wild in temperament, but the result of reducing the genetic percentage of Asian leopard cat, generation by generation, for them to keep the desirable looks, but making a good pet ๐Ÿช๐Ÿช๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ

Have you wondered why the life expectancy tends to be higher in the Far East nations and in the Mediterranean countries? There are several factors, but a paramount one is the diet. We are what we eat. It's logical to think that the same applies to pets. I just wanted with this post, to promote the recently launched book of my clever vet friend, Pamela รlvarez Gonzรกlez, in case some of you are interested or know somebody who may be ๐Ÿ“—

I would like to thank everybody who has trusted me and somehow contributed to this success; particularly to all the vet practices that are often referring to me (Gamston Vets4Pets, Ruddington Vets, Bulwell Vets4Pets, Rushcliffe Veterinary Centre and Sutton-in-Ashfield Vets4Pets). And special big thanks to my dear wife for always being there, supporting me unconditionally, and to my friends Marta Pola and Juan Fakio, who encouraged me on its day to make this run, still do, and have referred to me so many pets and owners from the beloved Polish community. One way or another, hoping to keep helping and posting pet-travel stories as until now!

It doesn't have to be easy at all to be blind; and possibly even harder to become blind at your adulthood, mainly because nobody has that plan for their life, nobody expects that to happen, at least at a young age. My friend Jamie Weller got blind many years ago. I just wanted today, with this post, to raise awareness and give him a tribute for his bravery and determination, not only to cope with life day to day with such an impairment, but to be able to bring up a family, with all the challenges and pitfalls that it can involve. Jamie Weller, it was great your visit with loyal Fred to my daughter's school, we all loved it and appreciated it, both teachers and the little children. Thank you very much!, you are so welcome again any time! ๐Ÿฆฎ๐Ÿค

Pamela is a good soul. She's one of those persons that the world needs more of. She has been fostering Florence for some months, a dog with plenty of problems and medications, and I can tell you that she treats her like an owner would do. And of course, if she travels to her beloved land, Florence goes too. Pamela is from Asturias (Spain), and I have something to say about it, for the amateurs. Asturias is called by all the Spaniards "Patria Querida" ("Beloved Land") and tourism advertisements say about it "Paraรญso Natural" ("Paradise of Nature"). Everybody loves Asturias, but people from Leรณn (where I am) love it a bit more. Separated by a vast mountain range, but linked by a long tunnel and centuries of history. One side of "El Negrรณn" can be rainy, but the other one will be sunny. Asturias has forests, Asturias has mountains, Asturias has coast. Asturias has bears, Asturias has cider, Asturias has pippers. We want their beaches, they want our weather. We are neighbours, we are brothers, we love and we hate each other. It is a country in a country, where better!? ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ–๐Ÿป๐Ÿ

Nice pics of Monty and owners, and their tour. From Hong Kong to the UK, and then to Portugal, crossing France and Spain. You can see "la Playa de La Co**ha" in the pretty city of San Sebastiรกn, and "la Plaza Mayor" in the historical city of Salamanca. Also, a typical Portuguese faรงade that brings to mind that unique "saudade" feeling, that especial nostalgia, that way of life that only Potuguese and Galician natives manage to sustain ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡น

I always remember my grandad explaining to me that when he was young, it took him a whole day to get and return, from the village where he lived in Spain to the closest main city, by horse, just about 15 miles apart. It is amazing how quickly we can move now, from one to another end of the planet. Fanlight, in less than 24 hours, from the tranquil Nottingham Arboretum to bustling Bangkok! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ

This is Mental Health Awareness week. In this more and more complex world we are living, the veterinary staff is at great risk of mental disease, due to the strong pressures of our job, amongst other things, something that many people are unaware. Whoever you are, farmer, pet owner, colleague, etc., please, always try to be comprehensive and respectful, this is not an easy profession and we always try our best! Us, the veterinary staff, will ever be so grateful for that ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

These are the endearing pictures that my multitalented friend Kay Corominas took recently. Business woman, musician, mum of a lovely daughter, photographer, animal lover... A self-made person.
