Good Life Mantrailing

Hi all,

I’ve had a great month trailing with my own dogs and working on some new business ideas.

The exciting news is that I have decided to become an independent mantrailing instructor and my affiliation with Mantrailing Global (MTG) will cease on 8th December 2023.
I have permission to continue to sign off MTG logbooks so please don’t think that trailing with me will hinder your progression towards their level assessments. I will no longer be able to put you forward for MTG assessment nor will I be able to provide their books and badges.

However, I am now able to run my business exactly how I wish, choose how I progress my own learning and I can tailor my training to best fit the dog I see before me. I can mix and match training styles and principles to get the best out of your dog.

I would love any feedback or ideas from you….
I don’t have to stick to a set format for my sessions anymore so is there something that bugs you that you’d like to change.
Do you want to have awards, badges and assessments? Bigger or smaller groups?

This is your chance to tell me how you want to trail…!

New dates will be available for January by December 1st….

Some more smashing trails from yesterday!
We had a new (to us) breed with Romeo the Beiwer terrier, who is a fantastic little trailer! Our friend Balto was on fire as was super spaniel Edgar. Freya and Flynn rocked their trails growing in confidence all the time!
The wind was quite challenging as it was swirling around in the open spaces. Our dogs coped brilliantly though and worked hard to get on the right trail.

Last night we had a super session at our scout camp venue. It was the first time trailing for Rebus, the young cocker spaniel, and it never ceases to amaze me how quickly our dogs learn a new game!
From being very reserved and not really understanding what he was supposed to be doing on his first trail, you can see how keen he was to go by trail 2…
He’s going to smash mantrailing, just like his big brother! 🐶🐾🥰

This is for tomorrow Friday 6th October's PM progression session (3.30pm start).

Another great session this afternoon saw a first progression dog get the taste for mantrailing, novice dogs growing in confidence and experienced dogs absolutely smashing their trails!
It’s amazing to see the confidence building as dogs grow to love this sport. I’ll never tire of sharing the delight of dogs and humans alike.
Great teams working brilliantly together, well done all 👍🤩🐶🐾

Super session this morning at our Airsoft venue. The dogs found trail layers in holes and on platforms, in sheds and through tents!
They all smashed their trails and solved problems brilliantly!
Some great decisions made….😁🐶🐾

Super early start this morning to beat the heat. All the dogs were on fire though!
We had a first and second progression for two amazing dogs new to the game. Both working brilliantly with super energy.
Our two experienced dogs checked out every nook and cranny before nailing their trail layers. Some great decision making and excellent body language.
Then we continued to build some super strong foundations with our intermediate teams. Every dog working hard and making brilliant choices.
What a fantastic morning 🤩

Our afternoon session proved slightly more challenging as the first trail was conducted in the rain and a slight rumble of thunder! The sun soon came out again though and our second set of dogs smashed out equally amazing trails as the first.
Some took different routes to their trail layer, which may be because the wind picked up, but all got to the successful end result 😊
Brilliant work everyone in the great British weather ⛈️

Wow! What a great morning of trailing! Our first time at our Airsoft venue where the dogs had sooo many hiding places to checkout. We saw some brilliant decision making by all the dogs regardless of their experience.
Damp conditions seemed to help the scent stick to the ground but a gusty wind still blew it around to make it challenging.
Great feedback from all the humans so we’re back on 23rd Sept (AM session full, PM still available) 😊🐶🐾

This afternoon saw two new teams introduced to Mantrailing. They joined more experienced teams who wowed them with their skills and really set the seed for the mantrailing addiction to begin!
We had walking trail layers, decoys, split trails and some hunting trails for the newbies.
Playing around with different rewards soon had the dogs fired up and ready to go!
There were some challenges as the wind picked up and spread the scent around but the dogs weren’t phased and they were able to pick their way through the difficult bits to successful finds.
Great work by all today 😁🐶🐾

This morning saw us trailing at our scout camp venue. We had the hammock in use, which was a first for some dogs, and the camouflage tarp made an appearance too…
The dogs worked brilliantly, coping with the swirling breeze admirably and even sniffing out trail layers in tents.
A squirrel was too much temptation for Bridie who struggled to concentrate after the pesky furball teased her….it made for some cracking photos though 🩷

Sunday morning saw lots of local dog walkers out early providing distractions and contamination. All our dogs worked brilliantly past other dogs, people and a child on a bike without losing the desire to trail.
We crossed the railway bridge, where the scent seems to do strange things, and worked around buildings and rural tracks without any problems?
Super morning! Well done all 😊🐶🐾

Our afternoon session saw Ivy the Rhodesian ridgeback complete her introduction and put her lion tracking genetics to super use finding people instead! She smashed her first trails.

We had more fun in the pirate ship, made use of the fire escape, more tree climbing and snoozing in the hammock….

The sun made a brief appearance but we all stayed super cool 😎🐾🐾

Yesterday saw us trailing at a brand new venue… a school!
What an amazing day….
We were prepared for warm weather with shady parking, paddling pools and lots of people keeping an eye on the dogs, and were rewarded with rain ☔️
We dodged it by trailing through the poly tunnel, into classrooms and hiding our trail layers in storage cabins.
There were trees to climb and the hammock made another appearance.
Our blind dog wowed us all agin with his skills and the more experienced dogs had to contend with a pirate ship!

Great idea when out with the dogs….. We found a tick crawling on Bella’s head at the weekend so they are about……

Something to keep in mind while doing spring yard work! Wrapping tape sticky side out around the ankles seems to work pretty good for catching ticks.

We had an interesting afternoon session under the cool shade of the trees. Gusty and a swirling wind made it challenging for the dogs who all worked super hard and made some really good decisions.
We had tents, a hammock and buildings to hide in, none of which fooled our super sniffers…
A few blurred photos they were moving that fast!
