Remembering Royal Marine Damian Davies this festive period. πŸŽ–οΈπŸŽ„

Matthew and his family don’t have any set-in-stone traditions remembering Damian at Christmas. Instead, they prefer simply talking about him and remembering the time they spent together.

β€œWe always talk about dad at Christmas and people often tell me how similar we both are. He loved a good biscuit, for a start, and would eat them by the handful. Sometimes he’d apparently just sit there and work through a whole packet, which I can relate to.

πŸŽ¨πŸ–ŒοΈIn 2021, army veteran Kevin Willis, who served with the Royal Logistic Corps, began the portraits of all 457 who died serving in Afghanistan. He has now finished the paintings and is trying to find the last family members to send the paintings to.

His main objective of the project was to "help everyone remember our fallen friends and soldiers".

Amazing work, Kevin!πŸ‘

A Scottish war veteran who played a vital role during the D-Day landings has paid tribute to those who gave their lives ahead of the battle’s 80th anniversary next year.

Albert Lamond, 98, is cared for by Erskine Veterans Charity at the Veteran’s Village, Bishopton, Renfrewshire, a charity we are pleased to have supported.

Mr Lamond will be focused on the events of June 6 1944, where he watched from the sea as the battle raged on the beaches of Normandy, marking the start of the liberation of Western Europe from the N***s.

Mr Lamond joined the Royal Navy at the age of 18 when he joined in 1943.

We thank you for your brave service.

Join us in wishing a Happy 100th Birthday to WW2 Bomber Command veteran Angus Hughes!πŸŽ‚πŸŽ‰

Angus joined the RAAF in July 1942, aged 19. On his 32nd mission in 1944, his aircraft was hit by enemy flak over Germany, forcing the crew to bail out. He spent three months as a prisoner of war at Stalag Luft 7 in Germany, where he was forced to march for 21 days over a distance of 200km in bitterly cold conditions.

Thank you for your service, Angus. We hope you had a fantastic birthday!

Simon Brown, 42, was a corporal with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers when he was shot in the face as he led a successful mission to recover six stranded colleagues in Iraq in 2006.

When he woke from an induced coma 17 days later in a Birmingham hospital, he had lost his left eye and was left with around 20% vision in his right eye.

After battling to come to terms with the severity of his injuries, Simon was given crucial support by numerous military charities and has since gone on to rebuild his life.

What a remarkable story.πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§β€οΈ

πŸ‘€ This is a must-watch! Amber, one of the subjects of 'Disorder', a powerful new feature documentary about three armed forces veterans battling PTSD and adjusting to civilian life, is an inspiring example of courage and strength.

Directed by Bafta-winning filmmaker Kate Blewett, this is a raw portrayal of their daily struggles.

We are pleased to have been able to support the charity Help 4 homeless veterans which supported Amber when she was homeless and struggling.

πŸ‘πŸ‘Let's give a huge round of applause to military veteran Mark Harding, who has finished an incredible walk across the UK from John O'Groats to Land's End - all on crutches!

Mark was shot and paralysed whilst serving in Afghanistan, and was told he would never walk again. However, against all odds, after three months of walking, Mark has become the world's first disabled person to tackle the walk solo!🌎

What an outstanding achievement! Well done, Mark!🌟

Have you heard of the "Mad Piper" Bill Millin?

Bill was the only bagpiper to land on the beach in Normandy and played his pipes throughout the battle while men fell around him.

When asked why they hadn't shot him, a group of captured German snipers replied that they thought he had gone insane and felt pity on him.
