Kennel cough otherwise known as infectious tracheobronchitis is a respiratory illness that causes coughing, sneezing and lethargy.
We can vaccinate against kennel cough using an intranasal vaccination which can offer some protection.
Here is nurse Charlotte giving Finn his kennel cough vaccination.

One of the many things nurses do is ensure adequate infection control. They ensure that the practice is cleaned to the highest standards as the prevention of the spread of disease is so important.
Here is a very sped up video of the nurses cleaning after surgery ๐พ
They help clean all areas of the practice, consultation rooms, theatre, preparation areas, wards and isolation units. And, they do not miss a spot, cleaning all sides, equipment and even the walls during regular deep cleans

Once your pet has recovered from their procedure they will be prepared for being discharged home.
A nurse will ensure that they have recovered from their anaesthesia and contact you for a discharge time.
They will then get them ready to go home. They will get any post operative medication your pet requires correctly dispensed. The nurses then remove any intravenous catheters and place a light bandage on their leg. They will ensure their wound is clean, check their temperature, heart rate and breathing rate to ensure they are doing well.
Then finally, they will put on their buster collar or recovery suit which will prevent them licking their wound if this is necessary.
The discharge nurse will then go through any discharge instructions with you to ensure you have all the information you need for their post operative care and book you a post operative appointment for 2-3 days time.
Here is a video of Trainee VCA Danni getting todays patient Obieโs medication ready after his dental procedure today and Sam discharging him home to his family this evening โค๏ธ

Happy Halloween!
Here is a quick video on some safety tips for your pets this Halloween ๐๐ป
Brave Bella came in this week to see the Vet and Nurse for her first cryotherapy session. Cryotherapy is a treatment for skin lesions such as but not limited to warts and skin tags which doesnโt usually require anaesthesia and causes minimal to no pain. It delivers liquid nitrogen to the skin lesion, causing controlled destruction of the unwanted lesion.
Bella was so brave, enjoying her cuddles during her session and she especially loved the post session treats.
If you are interested in whether cryotherapy is an option for your pet, do not hesitate to whatsapp us for more information on 07360 544957
Scampiโs story
Scampi, a young giant schnauzer has been in over the last few weeks because he wasnโt feeling very well. His owners were concerned as he had been vomiting quite a lot at home.
He was seen by our Vets Locum Ines and Connie who determined that Scampi needed radiographs to see what could be the cause of his vomiting. The foreign material didnโt show up clearly on the radiograph (like some material like metal or stone) but there were signs that made us suspicious he had ingested something he shouldnโt had.
During his stay in our fully equipped dog ward, he also received intravenous fluids, blood tests and medications as well as round the clock nurse care from our amazing nurses and the out of hours teams.
Vet Melissa performed a surgery known as an exploratory laparotomy, a surgery where we explore the entire abdomen to see if we can find the foreign material. During our exploration, we found a blockage in an area of Scampiโs intestine and had to perform an enterotomy, a surgery where we make an incision into the intestine to remove the blockage. To our surprise we found a large portion of a corn on the cob, which he must have found on a walk as his owners didnโt eat it.
Scampi recovered well and was keen to eat as soon as he could. He has been recovering really well and all the team have been happy to see him back to his usual cheeky bouncy puppy self.
