This 9 week old Wire Haired Dachshund was just adorable. She slept throughout my visit. I want one!

Another very enjoyable day at the Ryedale Show where I met many new and old clients.
It was lovely to see so many happy dogs enjoying their day out.

These two Labradors had not had the chance to be socialised with strangers so we’re very nervous when I entered their home.
The way to relax them is to let the visitor in and then introduce the dogs. Here they are on my second visit. So if your dog is nervous of strangers let them come to you NOT you to them.

This Labrador walks beautifully at heel but pulls and wants to play with every dog she sees.
I have found that the best way to fix this issue is to take your dog’s favourite toy and treats on the walk. This will divert her attention to you.
It worked with her.

This Spaniel pup is a jumper upper. If you push them down they are receiving the attention they want.
Try putting them in another room until they calm down then reintroduce them and cue sit and treat them. If you repeat this it will work.

I was asked to help this rescue Staffy who had been terribly treated by her previous owner. All dogs scared her and it was apparent she had been hit as she flinched at any sudden movement and when I raised my hand.
After half an hour I gained her confidence by feeding her treats and moving very slowly.
We then took her for a walk with Henry, my Labrador. When she glanced at Henry and remained calm she received a treat. If she had shown any reaction we would have increased the distance.
There is no quick fix but with time and patience she will hopefully turn into a happy confident dog.

If your dog growls and lunges at other dogs it is often a sign they are scared and trying to scare the other dog away.
I help your dog to be more friendly by introducing them to Henry in a controlled manner.
Henry is the yellow Labrador in the picture and is an old softie who has never ever shown any sign of aggression.

Last week I helped a dog that was being walked on a lead and became aggressive when another dog came near.
This dog was scared and because he did not have the option of running away he wanted to keep the other dog at a distance.
The owner anticipated this reaction and was tightening on the lead. I demonstrated that by remaining relaxed and keeping the lead lose this dog became a lot calmer.
Another successful outcome!

Bringing home a puppy can be a very daunting experience. The first weeks of a puppy’s life will affect the way she will behave when an adult. There are guidelines that must be followed.
The owners of this puppy just wanted to know they were doing everything right- they were. It was a pleasure to be able to help.

There was an article in our local newspaper today about a poor little dog being so badly mauled by unfamiliar dogs, that were off the lead, that she had to be euthanised.
This is a horrible scenario and happens far too frequently but can be prevented by putting a lead on your dog whenever you see, or likely to see, a strange dog.
Of course, if your dog has friends let him play but keep him on a lead until you know the other dog is friendly.
Better to be safe than sorry- keep your dog on a lead.

This 3 year old female Labrador has just found her forever home. She had been given up by her family who used her for breeding. She was submissive as rolled on her back when approached. This is a sign that she is unwilling to engage in conflict and could be a problem if approached by an overzealous person as she may be threatened and react.
Never ever punish her. Let her come to you and when she rolls over encourage her to sit. Play a game with her. Teach basic commands to her as this will give her confidence as she will see you as her protector. Be patient.

Recently I was asked to help with a dog that would not give up his toys without growling. This is referred to as ‘resource guarding’.
Do not force the object from him as you may get bitten and will exacerbate the problem. I first like to exchange the object with a high value treat then immediately return the object in question.
This worked with this dog but there are other ways. Contact me if you want my help.

This Cavapoo pup needed help walking to heel. We used treats, a slack lead and with practice and repetition she will soon stop pulling.

So many people associate this breed of dog with aggression. This rescue is just a big softy and a sheep in wolf’s clothing. His main problem was pulling on the lead and barking that we now have under control.

I love helping people with their newly acquired puppies. I stress there are things you must do and, most importantly, things you must avoid. After a 90 minute session I know these puppies are off to a good start.

This lovely little Cocker was jumping up, barking incessantly and not obeying any commands. Now, after a few sessions, she is well behaved and still full of life. All it takes is kindness and consistency. Result- happy owners!

This delightful 6 month old puppy rules the roost. It is so important that he obeys commands otherwise his behaviour will become worse.
When training any dog avoid repeating commands and remember to treat them. Make it fun. It will take time and never expect immediate results.

This French Bulldog suffers from Separation Anxiety. There is no quick fix but after following my advice he is showing a marked improvement.

Our dog Kevin was terrified off meeting male humans. An hour spent with Charlie and he is a different dog again. Thank you Charlie.

The cocker spaniel, I mentioned recently, who was scared of dogs needed confidence. 30 minutes with my boy, Henry, has relaxed her.

What could be better? Watching television with my boys, Henry & Syd.

Working Cocker scared by strange dogs so I am giving her confidence by walking her with my Labrador, Henry, who has helped many dogs overcome their fear of other dogs.

13 week old Golden Doodle rescued from gypsies now in a loving home. I was able to give some tips on training that is so important at this age.

This Dog was rescued from Ukraine so was naturally very scared of people. It will take a while to give her confidence but we will get there in time.
