A rough old bit of hedge and Some fairly thick stuff to get down on this Job, battered by the flail, full of rot and smothered in Ivy this hedge will really benefit from being layed.
All waste being chipped and left on site as mulch. Mightily impressed with the Hansa C7 chipper, chips up to 3” and fits in the back of the truck 👌🏻 makes light work of brash.

Check up on a mixed species hedge laid this winter just gone. The field maple was beginning to shaddow out all the other species after trimming at the same height was creating a table top! Nice to see it all bouncing back to life. Regular incremental trimming in the future.

Had a stab at the nationals today, opted for hand tools only which saw me only just finish my length in the Nick of time, no time for fettling which unfortunately cost me points. Fantastic event and will be there again next year.

Really pleased with how this woven hazel fence came out given it was a first attempt!! Aesthetically pleasing windbreak and a great way to use up materials that would go to waste. A lot more sturdy than the pre made panels you can purchase for a small fortune

Heavy going reveals some curly stems that demand creativity when building into the stakes. A hedge that has been battered by the flail for decades, is having the reset button pressed, the landowner has a view to maintaining this hedge in a more traditional and sympathetic way going forward which is great to see.
Savouring the last 20m or so of laying this season

Decent progress on the heavily suckered blackthorn/hawthorn hedge, 3 days in. Landowner will fence off the clean side as this is being laid in an unconventional orientation.

Sometimes it’s nice to have an edge tool day! Knocking the heels off the big stuff with an axe is the next thing to practice but for now I cheat on those
