We were lucky enough to have an extra visitor to the field for me to practice Arya’s’ recall off distractions.
Ragnar is not yet there with his recall so I put him on lead to prevent him practicing a Behaviour I don’t want.
Recall training takes time, progression and management, a chase recall is an advanced Behaviour. It’s not something you should try in an uncontrolled way, before the dog is ready but I knew Arya was capable which was why I captured it to show you what a good recall cue looks like.
The deer left the field without incident!

Did someone mention training around distractions? Behold young Margot, a spaniel with a high prey drive. Although regulars to advanced class we have done some recent training to help prevent chase and barking behaviours in the garden.
No lead on and just look at this lass! Around birds! She’s a real credit to her handlers. All trained without the use of punishment 🥰

It's here! Our new outdoor training to help your dog work with you in distracting environments. To be eligible to book this you should have had at least one indoor session and have head trainer Paula agree you are ready for this next step.
Work with or around a variety of distractions, learn flirt pole work, habituate to livestock or just come to build a better response in the outdoors with expert training support right by your side!

Let’s hear it for 12 month old Harvey! Harvey has been attending since he was a pup and is now in our progression class working towards his Kennel Club Bronze Award. A regular at Friday Night Dog Club, this handsome lad can be seen here working his emergency stop on his placeboard.
Emergency stop is covered in the progress class, it’s a great way to keep your dog safe in an emergency or to interrupt chase behaviours.

Meet Stevie and Dottie, sibling mini Schnauzers almost 2 years old. I first met them 6 months ago when their handlers booked a block of 3 sessions to help with barking at other dogs.
6 months on at it was all smiles today. Not only are they able to interrupt barking effectively, but they’ve trained the dogs not to do it in the first place.
This sort of training needs time, patience and skills. I was happy to share the skills they need to make their walks much more enjoyable and as a result the dogs now enjoy much more out and about time!
Their handler was proud to announce she can now walk them together for miles on the canal without any barking!
Wow what a difference!

Wow this heat is hard work! We postponed all afternoon sessions due to heat but managed to get the pups and progression groups worked ❤️

Effective dog training delivered with kindness

Bronte Canine offers dog training from 3 locations in West Yorkshire, Oakworth, Hebden Bridge and our new purpose built training facility in Denholme.

Our head trainer Paula Stone has studied with the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) for 3 years and is a now a full member of the association. Also currently studying Canine Behaviour Management at level 5 - foundation degree level with Compass Education. All of our methods are up to date reward based methods developed using learning theory principles. Our three training assistants are also studying for dog training related qualifications or have qualified at various levels.

We pride ourselves on offering engaging, quality dog training at reasonable prices. All designed to prevent problems, develop your bond with your dog and improve your dogs ability to settle into home life. If group training does not suit you or your dog please do get in touch - we offer a one to one training service at our training centre or if needs be at your home.
