Today Ember had a social visit with whiskers vets! I chose this vet specifically because of their dedication to fear free practices.

Appointments here are 20 minutes, which is longer than the standard and allows your pet to get accustomed to the vet before examinations start.

Immediately I was impressed when they suggested a pain trial for my nervous dog ( Ember has already done many, but you'd be surprised how many vets wouldn't think to consider pain when looking at behaviour!).

Ember struggles with strangers, so the vets can be a challenge. Having a vet willing to do these fun confidence building visits with us is a life saver, it means next time we go in, she hopefully won't be trembling and trying to escape!

Id highly recommend this vet to anyone, even though they are a bit of a drive for me, it's worth it for the care they provide ☺️.

Since I'm new to Okehampton, I thought I'd share a little information about me 👋

My name is Katie, I have just made a huge move from Scarborough, north Yorkshire to Okehampton, Devon with my border collie, Ember, and my fiancé.

I am loving my new life so far, and can't wait to meet some more Furry pals to spend my days exploring with 🐾.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Level 4 Advanced canine behaviour and training with the British college of canine studies.
Accredited CPD qualification in Canine behaviour and training (distinction)
Accredited CPD qualification in Canine Psychology (Distinction)
Accredited CPD qualification in Canine behaviour (Distinction)
Accredited CPD qualification in Puppy development (Distinction)
Qualified Mantrailing instructor.
Currently working towards UK scent sport qualification.

We're getting some lovely weather here in Okehampton 💨

Did you know, 5,000 dogs are reported missing each year? And a large portion of those dogs escaped from their home/garden!

Wind can blow down or damage your garden fences, it's always a good idea to double check they are fully intact before letting your dogs outside.

I know how hard it is to hard to trust someone with your dog, but know that when your dog is with me you can be sure that they are with someone who truly cares!

💚I am 100% force free.
💚 I know what good social skills look like and how to encourage them.
💚 I manage groups well to ensure all dogs are enjoying their time, interrupting any over the top or one sided play.
💚I ensure walks include lots of time to sniff and decompress.
💚I understand specific breed traits well and how to avoid common breed specific problems.
💚Safety is my priority, I don't take risks and ensure all dogs can recall to me before they go off the lead.

A very bittersweet last week in Scarborough!

Saying goodbye to some amazing dogs I've had the pleasure of looking after, some since they were babies and most for many years 💔.

Of course we get attached to the dogs we look after, and saying goodbyes is sad, but I'm very glad I'm leaving most of them in the capable hands of someone I know and trust! I just hope they don't wonder why I never turned up again! 🥹

Thank you to you all, for trusting me to take care of your beloved dogs, and allowing me to have a job I love.

I can't wait to meet some new canine friends in Devon!

An extra thanks to those who gave me cards and gifts, which were all lovely! 🥰

Lupin isn't the smartest of dogs, he jumped up at this trough to try to get a drink and ended up falling in. Thankfully, he loves to swim and after the initial shock he needed persuading to come back out 😂 They do make me laugh!
