Last week, our Fane Valley Feeds team hosted a Cow Signals® Workshop, which emphasises the importance of shed conditions, feed space and overall comfort for the herd. Our team is fully trained in Cow Signals® and ready to assist you in maximising your herd's potential.

A special thank you to our host farm for their excellent demonstration of the six key Cow Signals® pillars to cow health: light, space, air, rest, feed and water. Attendees left with valuable insights on how Cow Signals® can enhance herd health and performance, leading to more sustainable farming practices.

We also appreciate Nugent Engineering for the informative factory tour and lunch following the workshop.

Animals that don’t eat with the main group will eat quicker resulting in more rumen acidosis and poorer feed utilisation. They will also eat slightly less.

Speak with your Fane Valley Feeds CowSignals® Master about feeding in calf heifers.

Allowing adequate feed space for heifers is vital for calving success.
Although not yet at mature weight, at least 75cm per head is still needed to allow the group to access feed together, especially coming closer to calving to support adequate dry matter intakes in preparation for lactation

Space is one of the 6 freedoms of cattle in the field that they should also get in the shed..!

Water: The Forgotten Nutrient
Water provision and intake are often overlooked. 💦💦
Water constitutes around 87% of milk and is therefore a crucial element in driving milk production.
An adequate supply of clean, fresh water will promote:
· Healthy rumen function
· Higher feed intakes
· Digestion
· Nutrient absorption

Dry matter intakes can be increased by fresh palatable feed, adequate feeding space, access to fresh water and good air flow. All important factors to maximise your margins with finishing beef cattle.
