Spooky season is upon us and Bosco decided dressed up a Dogtor this year 🐕🩺

He wanted to remind everyone to make sure all pets are kept indoors or else somewhere secure this week as fireworks can be scary! 👻

- Microchipping is a legal requirement but also a traceable method to reunite owners and their pets if they run away, get lost or stolen! 🪪

A**l gland issues in dogs can arise from several causes, and understanding these can help prevent and manage the condition more effectively.

Common Causes of A**l Gland Problems:

1. Obesity: Overweight dogs are more prone to a**l gland issues because excess body fat can affect the gland’s ability to empty naturally. The pressure required for the glands to express during defecation is reduced, leading to retention and impaction.
2. Poor Diet: A diet low in fiber can result in soft stools, which do not provide enough pressure on the a**l glands to trigger natural expression. Dogs fed a poor-quality diet or one that lacks sufficient fiber are at a higher risk.
3. Chronic Diarrhea or Loose Stools: When a dog frequently has loose stools or diarrhea, the a**l glands are not properly expressed during defecation. This can cause the glands to become impacted or infected over time.
4. Allergies: Dogs with food allergies or environmental allergies often experience inflammation, which can extend to the a**l glands. The inflammation can lead to blockages or infections if untreated.
5. Structural Issues: Some dogs are anatomically predisposed to a**l gland problems due to the positioning or size of their glands, making them harder to empty naturally. This is common in small breeds like Chihuahuas, Dachshunds, and Toy Poodles.
6. Lack of Exercise: Dogs who are less active may have weaker muscle tone, which can impact their bowel movements and the natural expression of their glands. Active dogs tend to have firmer stools, which help in expressing the glands.
7. Infections or Tumors: In rare cases, infections in the glands or nearby areas, or the presence of tumors, can cause blockages. A bacterial infection may result in painful abscesses or even ruptures.

By addressing these underlying causes—through a balanced, high-fiber diet, regular exercise, and managing allergies—most a**l gland problems can be prevented or managed effectively.

Bobby’s Critical Care Journey: This was A Team Effort at Fairgreen Vets

Bobby, a 6-year-old dog, was brought to us after being hit by a car, struggling to breathe. X-rays revealed multiple broken ribs and a pneumothorax—a condition where air escapes into the chest cavity, causing the lungs to collapse. You can see the black areas on the X-ray showing the trapped air.

Our team immediately performed thoracocentesis to remove the air and help Bobby breathe more easily. He required intensive monitoring and multiple thoracocentesis procedures to stabilize his condition.

Bobby has been an incredibly brave patient, but he’s not out of the woods yet. His recovery will be long, and he remains very sore. We’re doing everything we can to help him heal!

Is Your Pet Slowing Down? 🐕 Joint Pain Relief Options

Is your dog starting to walk slower or showing stiffness in their hips and joints? These could be signs of osteoarthritis, a common issue in aging pets. But there are treatments that can make a big difference in your dog’s comfort and mobility!

1. Librela: Long-lasting Pain Relief
Librela is a monthly injection that blocks the nerve growth factor (NGF) responsible for pain, giving your dog relief from osteoarthritis. It’s non-steroidal and provides consistent pain management, allowing your dog to stay active and comfortable.

2. Nutriquin+ Joint Support
Nutriquin+ is a high-quality joint supplement that supports cartilage health and reduces inflammation. It contains:

• Glucosamine & Chondroitin: To support healthy joint cartilage.
• Green-lipped Mussel: A powerful anti-inflammatory that helps reduce pain and stiffness.
• Antioxidants: To help protect joints from further damage.

Adding Nutriquin+ to your dog’s daily routine can complement other treatments like Librela and support long-term joint health.

3. Weight Management & Exercise
Keeping your dog at a healthy weight can ease the strain on their joints. Regular low-impact exercises like swimming or short walks can also help maintain mobility.

We’re here to help your dog live a happier, pain-free life! Ask us about Librela, Nutriquin+, and other ways to support your pet’s joint health.

🌟 Why Neuter Your Pet? 🌟

Neutering your pet is more than just a procedure — it’s a vital step in ensuring a healthier, happier life for them and creating a safer community for all animals. Here’s why it matters:

🐾 Prevent Health Issues
Neutering reduces the risk of serious conditions like certain cancers and infections, helping your pet live longer.

🐾 Behavior Benefits
Neutered pets tend to be calmer, less aggressive, and have a reduced urge to roam, which lowers the chance of accidents or injuries.

🐾 Control Pet Population
By neutering your pet, you’re helping to prevent the overpopulation of stray animals and reduce the number of pets in shelters.

🐾 No Unwanted Litters
Avoid the challenges of caring for unexpected puppies or kittens by making sure your pet can’t reproduce.

Give us a ring anytime to discuss it further 🐶🐱
