Let’s talk ‘Scatter Feeding’ on this glorious Sunday!
Dogs generally take great pleasure in eating and scatter feeding is a way to make your dog’s meal times last longer. Simply scattering their food over a wide area such as around your garden or house provides mental stimulation at the same time as a fun meal time.
We don’t promote this as the only way of feeding, however for some dogs there are great benefits…
It slows down feeding for dogs that gulp or quickly eat their meals. As a low arousal activity it can calm highly strung or stressed dogs.It engages your dog’s brain and helps teach them to focus for longer periods of time.It engages their sense of smell. They will have to rely on their nose to sniff out individual piece of kibble in the grass. It is relaxing for dogs. Sniffing actually lowers the heart rate.Scatter feeding engages the brain and provides mental stimulation, particularly good for young dogs.

We did it! Our painted lady butterflies are free 🦋 one even stuck around to say goodbye 👋💞
Did you know mental stimulation is just as important as physical exercise? Brain games are especially important for high energy working dogs like German shepherds, Labradors and Spaniels. Making dogs work for their food also means they don’t eat it as quick. Penny loves to get her food out of her kong and keep her entertained too 🐶
