Rollo has learnt so much since training with Brighter Barks Dog Training. His owners originally contacted me to help with jumping up and excitement, but he has learnt all of this on top of that! Well done Rollo 💗🐾 #dogtraining #dogtrainer #puppytraining #puppytrainer #oswestry #oswestrydogs #dogtrainingtips #dogtrainingadvice
Send to someone who’s guilty of this 😂🙄 THEY GET CONFUSED! When we repeat the cue to our dog, we are accidentally reaching him/her that the command for ‘sit’ is actually ‘sit, sit, sit, sit, SIT’ meaning they won’t actually put their bottom on the floor until you have finished your usual routine of saying sit 5 times! This also applies to recall, if your dog learns that you’re going to shout again if they don’t come back, they’ll learn you’re always going to shout again. You should not let your dog off lead unless you KNOW they are going to come back. Until then, use a training line/long lead to ensure they aren’t practicing ignoring your commands! Instead of repeating the word, wait a few seconds, see if they work it out or start to offer behaviours. If they get it right and sit after a few seconds…heavily reward them! If they don’t and you notice they start to get frustrated, make it easier by asking less of them. Eg. If you are asking for sit, use the treat to lure their head up and backwards so they are lured into a sit position. When I’m that position, reward and heavily praise! - this does not apply for recall. If your dog does not come back when called, they should not be off lead. Practice on a long lead and call once, if they don’t come back, work your way up the line towards them, put a treat by their nose and guide them towards you as you step back a few times whilst repeating your command. When they are in front of you reward them WITHOUT asking them to sit or do anything else first. If you ask them to sit before rewarding a recall, you are rewarding the sit, not coming back when called. Does that make sense?
