🐮 GrassWatch Update 🐮

- Grass growth has seen an increase from last week, with the highest reported at 27kg DM/ha/day in the West Midlands.

- The average fibre index has increased slightly from 160 to 172, as well as a reduction in acid load, lowering the risk of butterfat depression at this early stage of the spring grazing season.

- Some grass samples have reported high protein levels of >30% CP.

Here is the latest update on milk prices 🥛

🥛 Arla has maintained its price for another month, with only a small adjustment. This means farmers supplying Arla are seeing relatively stable prices.

📉 However, other processors, like Freshways, have announced price reductions. This indicates some variability in the market.

🐮 The overall trend suggests that while some prices are holding steady, there's pressure from increased milk supply, which could lead to further changes.

Essentially, the milk market is experiencing a mix of stability and fluctuation. We'll continue to monitor these developments. 📈

We're seeing significantly lower grass growth than usual (12.5kg DM/ha/day vs. 18.7kg). This means variable energy supply, likely failing to meet maintenance needs. As a result, Milk Yield from Grazing (MYFG) is low or even negative.

Supplementation is essential! Additionally, fibre index is dropping, increasing the risk of butterfat depression. Keep a close eye on your herd!
