Who knew a klenex box could come in such use! Optimism training for sweet little Kylo 🐶🐶☺️☺️❤️
Kylo update: how did he get so big! 😆😆😆🐶🐶🐾🐾
Kylo update: he got a little present for Xmas so it was our first time trying the jump out properly outside! I’m very mindful he is still a growing puppy and therefore not wanting to go crazy with setting a full jumping route up for him 😆 or anything so just small steps but he seems to enjoy having a little jump so it was nice to see 😄😄🐶🐶🐾🐾
Kylo day 67: his boundary training is coming on so well! Using a release cue is such a valuable thing to teach to get more control and duration on a boundary so your dog doesn’t just learn to wonder all the time. I’ve ended up using “ok” as my release cue as I’ve been using it in other games and situations so had build some value in it already. It’s not always perfect and before this he got the food before having the release cue said, but it’s best to laugh and move on and try again! 😂 (for the record I’m not commanding him to ‘stay’ or ‘wait’: this is purely behaviour that has been built naturally so he wants to wait for his release cue😄) After this, he stayed on his boundary for a good 10 minutes or so whilst we ate dinner and then proceeded to destroy his bed, so it’s always small improvements that matter and looking at the bigger picture 😊😂 dog training takes time so little and often is a good place to be 🐶🐶🐾🐾🐾🐾 #prouddogtrainer
Kylo update: he makes me laugh so much sometimes 😂 but at least he is enjoying his new lick pot! 🐶🐶🐾🐾🐾
Kylo day 20: this may not seem like much to some people but this is just HUGE progress. Kylo is sleeping with me on the same side of the barrier as him! Normally he can’t switch off when I’m in the room and he thinks he should have access to me all the time. This is allowing me to work and him to switch off and get some rest! Making for a happier me and a happier pup who can go to his bed and sleep whenever he knows he wants to do that 😆😆🐶🐶🐾🐾🦴🦴 I’m so thrilled!! #prouddogtrainer #proudpuppymama #liveastressfreelife
Kylo day 19! Some real progress being made! The kitchen roll saga continues! Teaching a dog that they can disengage from things is invaluable as it can give them peace of mind and a more relaxed state when the comings and goings of modern life just get in the way. We can’t and shouldn’t always adjust our lives around our dogs, otherwise we end up compromising our very essence of life sometimes. The kindest thing to do is give yourself the freedom to go about life as you always thought you would whilst owning a dog and allowing your dog the confidence and independence to do so, so they are not always mirroring our pace of life and wanting to join in everything we do when this is actually damaging to their mental well being. Love your life and your dog’s life! 🐶🐶❤️❤️🤩🤩 very cute ending - he wanted cuddles after a hard training session and fell asleep soon after 😂 #dogseparationanxietytraining
Kylo day 18: his boundary training is going really well and today is really starting to pay off! As he’s a puppy he needs a lot of sleep, but sometimes he’s so over stimulated you can tell he is tired but doesn’t know to focus his energy into sleep 😅 It’s taken a bit of time to work out what would work as a really good reinforcer for him to bring the value of his boundary to his understanding! Chicken! Potentially too much of a reinforcer as he was struggling with his other food so something else to work on 😂😂😂🐶🐶🐾🐾🦴🦴#proudpuppytrainer #proudpuppymama
Kylo is such a cutie 😍😍😍😍 he’s really coming into his own and making for such a sweet pup! #prouddogmamma
Puppies and toilet training has its difficulties as it is, but Kylo getting excited about us cleaning up after him with the kitchen roll doesn’t really aid this progress in the long run. And I genuinely didn’t know this would be something I would have to teach him 😂😂🐶🐶🦴🦴🐾🐾 #puppystruggles #puppyparent #dogtraining
Kylo puppy: day 05. It’s interesting to reflect and notice what is happening during dog training. With trying to train both confidence (he likes cuddles to help him sleep) and that my presence is not important (having him stay relaxed whilst I make myself breakfast without him following me around the kitchen and biting my feet) to a very young dog, it’s very important to remember to pick your battles. He’s come along so well in only a few days but me working on comforting him (in the attempt to build his confidence) is another reason why a dog may struggle with separation issues. Leaving him whining and jumping up is very stressful for me as I know it will be unsettling him, but there is a fine line when it’s obvious he is very over stimulated and tired and struggling to settle. Today was the first time I didn’t hug him to sleep, but he managed to settle (after making sure all his needs were met) with a bit of whining and some chews. It’s easy to get into a routine and not giving your dog enough independence. I’m sure that as he gets older he will find it easier and easier but it’s about growing him in the right direction 😊🐾🐾🦴🦴🐶🐶
