✨Friday Dog Trainer’s Recommendation ✨
When your dog is on lead and wants to say hi to another dog, 1 of 2 things may happen:
1) they don’t get on and have an unpleasant experience 😖; or
2) they do get on and fancy a play, resulting in tangled leads and chaos 🤪
Which is why I recommend sticking to the 3-second rule:
💫 As long as both dogs are calm and under control (and both owners are ok with it!)
➡️ allow both dogs to sniff each other for 3 seconds
➡️ tell them that’s plenty and continue on your walk.
⏱️ 3 seconds is just enough time to get the information your dog needs from the other dog - age, s*x, health etc - without it turning into an interaction. Good or bad.
Heading off an interaction before it turns sour or chaotic keeps things positive without setting up the expectation every dog might be a playmate.
And remember: you don’t have to let your dog say hi to everyone dog they see. It’ll be easier to get from A to B for you both if you don’t 😅
🤗 Share with someone who’s dog HAS to say hi to every dog on walk
