How are your pets keeping cool in this heat!?

This is cereal upside down on the concrete slabs to keep cool!

Remember never to leave pets in hot cars, conservatories or caravans.

Ensure pets have access to shade and fresh drinking water.

Put ice cubes in your pets drinking water.

Some dogs love a paddling pool to cool down in!

Don’t forget your small furries, hutches get incredibly hot in this weather, ensure your hutch is positioned in constant shade.

Enjoy your summer!

Cat owners 🐈 🐈‍⬛

Visits to the veterinary clinic are an important part of caring for your cat, we understand some cats find this stressful. Fortunately there are many ways to make the experience more pleasant for both of you! Here are some things to try,

•Associate the carrier with positive experiences.

Put somthing warm, soft and familiar in the carrier for the cat to cuddle on. Synthetic feline pheromones can be sprayed onto the blankets 15 minutes before travel. Drape a familiar smelling towel over the carrier so your cat can feel safe. When moving the carrier, support it underneath to reduce movements, only use the top handle when carrier is empty.

•Choose the right carrier.

Choose a carrier that is safe and secure. Try to avoid soft fabric carriers, these can collapse and are hard to keep clean. Backpack carriers cause excessive movement, and carriers without removable tops make it difficult for us to examine the cat if they want to hide. A sturdy plastic carrier is preferred, easily cleaned, top half can be removed allowing your cat to be easily examined while staying in their carrier.

•Get your cat used to the carrier.

Don’t store it away until it is needed for your vet visit. Incorporate the carrier into part of the house the cat likes to spend time in. Encourage them to use it as a resting place. This will mean the carrier will have familiar smells and feel
Comfortable to the cat.

•Travelling to the clinic.

Cover the cat carrier with a familiar smelling blanket. Make the carrier secure in the car, try popping it into the footwell behind the front seat. Ensure the car is well ventilated at an appropriate comfortable temperature for your cat. keep the radio volume either off or low. Never be tempted to open the carrier in transport, use a calm quiet voice to reassure them.

•Arrival at the clinic.

Wait outside in your car with your cat, if you can see dogs already waiting to reduce stress. We can call you in from your car when we are ready. If your cat has had a toilet accident let one of our nurses know, and we can get them cleaned up and ready to see the vet. If you come inside to wait, please cover the carrier or ask a nurse for a blanket so that your cat feels safer.

We want all our cats to be healthy and happy, efforts to make trips to the vet easier will benefit both you and your cat. If you need any further advice or would like to collect a leaflet on ‘visiting your vet’ please don’t hestitate to contact the practice.

🐈Cat owners!

New legislation requiring all cats to be microchipped before the age of 20 weeks is now in force in the UK.

If you are not sure if your cat is microchipped we can check your cat free of charge with a nurse.

A microchip is safe and inserted under the skin at the back of the neck, and is approx the size of a large grain of rice.

The microchip has a unique serial number that the keeper needs to register on a database. When an animal is found, the microchip can be read with a scanner and the registered keeper identified on a database so the pet can quickly be reunited with them.

Please take this reminder to check all your stored details are up to date. You can call us for your pets unique microchip number if you have lost it.

Also you can use microchips alongside your electronic cat flaps, keeping out unwanted guests!

Cuteness alert 🚨

This is Norman! He’s a beautiful 12 week old sphinx cat who came in today for his course of kitten vaccines.

Hairlessness in cats is a naturally occurring genetic mutation, and the Sphynx cat was developed through selective breeding of this gene since the 1960’s.

Norman is very playful, loves to climb up and sit on your shoulder. Sphynx cats do feel the cold, so it is recommended they live indoors, have lots of warm blankets and even wear jumpers!

We can not wait to see Norman grow! 🐾

👋 Hi, I'm Rupert 👋

Did you know Dalmatians are born white and can continue to develop new spots for up to 18 months.

Dalmations have lots of energy and were originally bred to run all day alongside carriages.

They are also unofficial mascots for firefighters. One of their many jobs was to bark to alert people to get out of the way of the horse-drawn fire wagons.

Rupert was chosen as his owner likes to run, and she hopes they will take part in Canicross together one day.

Meg here kicking off 2024

Rachael was smiling all day yesterday after a cuddle with me after my booster.

Rachael and her son Harry spent some time with my equally as gorgeous mummy Xena on my birthday 4 and a half years ago.

She told me one of her favourite things about being a veterinary nurse is seeing us all grow big, strong, happy, and healthy.

P.S she still wants to put me in her pocket.

CUTENESS ALERT 🚨

We met Gizmo today, he is a 10 week old domestic short haired kitten. Gizmo sadly didn’t have the best start in life, his mother rejected him and he ended up in a cat rescue. Since then he has been hand reared and found a new loving home.

Gizmo enjoys wet jelly food, climbing and playing with his human siblings toy cars!

We recommend kittens stay indoors until they have had their vaccinations, microchip, neutered and over the age of 6 months. 🐾

See you soon Gizmo 🐈‍⬛

CUTENESS ALERT 🚨

Honey and Luna are 12 week old cockerpoo sisters, who came into see us this afternoon in a box!

The Cockerpoo breed is a crossbreed bred from the Cocker spaniel and the poodle. Most commonly the miniature Poodle. First bred in the 1960’s by accident in the USA.

Cockerpoo’s are very friendly and regarded as being good with children, making them a good family pet.

These two were just too cute not to share with you!

We look forward to watching Honey and Luna grow. 🐾 💕

CUTENESS ALERT 🚨

Meet Sid and Bertie, 12 week old brothers rescued from the RSPCA. They came to see us today for their kitten vaccination course.

We don’t advise letting your kittens out until they have had their full vaccination course, microchipped, neutered and over the age of 6 months for safety. So a little more waiting time for these two cheeky little boys!

We wish them all the love and fuss in their new home 🏠
