⭐ Ralph's Consent Training ⭐
This boy is such a beautiful dog, however we have been having a few little difficulties during his grooming sessions and so we decided to try a Training Program for him which could help him start to enjoy his grooming sessions.
"Consent" training is when the dog is provided an opportunity to make a choice. It allows for a better communication between us and the dogs, and the dogs feel so much more comfortable and secure in our salon. By teaching Ralph to jump on and off the table when he wanted, meant he was in control of whether he needed a break without being forced. He of course had some treats as positive reinforcement.
Ralph's main issue is not allowing us to groom and touch his legs without putting up a fight, so whilst he was on the table, we introduced "paw" which as you can see, he was happy to consent to.
We were very proud of him today, and we hope these small steps going forward will allow us to build a bond and calm his nerves when grooming. How many sessions this will take will be down to Ralph, but the more time we give him, the more chance of a happier dog.
We all need to start somewhere 🥰 so well done Ralph 👏
