The orangs have been enjoying their new play area all through the summer months, and it has been a joy to watch!

Lucky visitors may have even spotted our youngest, Ranbi, has started to venture outside and join his big sister Natalia. Hopefully next summer he'll be climbing alongside her😍🥰

Who's this little guy?🥹🩵

This is an electric blue day gecko, a Critically Endangered species that is endemic to a small area of Tanzania, living only on one specific type of palm tree, the screwpine🌴

💙💚 Mature, dominant males are brilliant blue in colour, while females and younger males are more of a coppery green or blue-green mix.

☢️ As they are not venomous, they rely on their vibrant appearance to survive in their natural habitat!

📏The electric blue day geckos are super tiny, reaching only about 3 inches in length!

We are home to five of these vibrant little geckos and you can find them in our Bugs At Home enclosure 🪰🏠

The African sacred ibis🌙

🌾🏺These beautiful birds are native to Africa, and have a profound significance in ancient Egyptian mythology. They are closely associated with the god Thoth, who was a multifaceted deity, often depicted as a human with the head of an ibis!

📜✏️The ibis's connection to Thoth was so strong that it was often depicted in hieroglyphic writing as a symbol for the god. The ibis was also frequently depicted in tomb paintings and sculptures, often accompanying Thoth in scenes of the afterlife.

🙏✨In addition to its association with Thoth, the ibis was also believed to have the power to bring good fortune and protect against evil. The Egyptians often kept ibis as pets and made offerings to the ibis god in hopes of receiving blessings.

Tillie is such a special animal, always curious and cheeky😊 Her keepers threw her a birthday party, complete with bunting and cake!🎂🎈

A big thank you to all the visitors who sang happy birthday or shouted "happy birthday giraffe!!", we're sure Tillie heard you and appreciated it!

We are heading down to Fishcombe Cove Café this Friday (6th Sep) along with Ocean Conservation Trust to talk about our joint work in protecting and restoring seagrass, our eco moorings that we have in place at the cove, and to educate the local community on this incredible habitat that we need to protect🌱💚

12 years old today!🎉 Happy birthday to Semira, Amahle and Boss, our incredible African lions🎈🦁🎁

To celebrate the trio's birthday, volunteers and staff made them an array of treats to get their teeth stuck into🥩

A big shout out to their keeper Cindy, who custom made an enrichment puzzle for them to play with and of course, the sisters have already fought over it! Safe to say they thoroughly enjoyed it and it wouldn't be a party without a few sibling rows!

🚂 Plym Valley Railway miniature train - This adorable sit-on train will be chugging along in front of the Island Restaurant, from 9:30am to 5:30pm, for just £1 per ride

🐯 Sayang - Fun for all the family, the Sayang Show is at 2pm every day in Matobo Camp! He will also be in Wild With Us (the tent next to the education centre) doing Meet & Greets at 12pm and 3pm

🎤 Ranger talks and activities - Discover more about some of the amazing species living at Paignton Zoo in our ranger talks. Plus we run free interactive activities that kids will love, at our trike by the lake. Check the app or the boards around the site for timings

🦩 New arrivals - We have lots of incredible wildlife to see, including some new members of the zoo. Flamingo chicks, Red river hoglets, Cape porcupines, and a female potoroo in the newly opened echidna house, are all worth seeking out!

Exciting News: We have Hoglets! 😍

Last week, our Paignton Zoo family grew with the arrival of two adorable Red River Hoglets, born to the wonderful Winnie and Humphrey! These little ones are settling in well, running around and causing mischief. 🐗

This is Winnie’s second litter and her three eldest, Spud, Sprout, and Squash are taking their new roles as big siblings very seriously! ❤️

🐣 Have you seen our adorable little cotton balls yet??? 🥰

Our flamingo chicks are the first we’ve had since 2018… and the first time we’ve ever seen a same-sex pair successfully hatch and raise a chick together! 🌈

Curtis and Arthur 🦩💕🦩 are one of several couples that were named by our Instagram followers earlier this year. Other named pairs with chicks include Florence and Flame, Frenchie and Del, and Flossie and Lando.

Now, we aren’t entirely sure how the same-sex parenting has come about biologically speaking 🤔(although it is a known phenomenon in Chilean flamingos as well as other bird flocks!) The most likely scenario is that the egg was abandoned by another couple, so Curtis and Arthur have ‘adopted’ it 🥚💝

The success of this year’s breeding programme so far is a testament to the skill and hard work put in by our Bird Team 👏

While there are currently only a handful of chicks on the island, there are still plenty of eggs incubating 🥚. We are hopeful that we may see more eggs hatch over the coming days and weeks. 🐣🤞

You told us… we heard you… and now we are on a mission to Bring Back the Swamp!🐊🐍🌴

Our hugely popular Crocodile Swamp exhibit sadly closed its doors in 2022. This unique and immersive space was home to threatened crocodiles, mesmerising snakes, and a host of other fascinating creatures to inspire and engage our visitors. Now, we’re ready to bring it back to life!

We are appealing to our community to help us Bring Back the Swamp! We’re determined to reopen the swamp and give it the revitalisation it deserves. With your support, we can rebuild the entrance, restore the interior, and introduce some new fascinating animals to inspire the next generation!🌟
