Great to be working with Wear Referrals!

We’re thrilled to share that our green initiatives are making great strides! 💚

Building on our previous sustainability achievements, including being named 2022 'Overall Outstanding Achiever' by the Investors in the Environment (iiE), we are working with Veterinary to pilot a state-of-the-art anaesthetic gas capture technology to help curb greenhouse gas emissions.

This cutting-edge solution captures exhaled waste anaesthetic gases using a specialised reusable canister.

Instead of relying on traditional methods like incineration or atmospheric release, this technology allows us to safely adsorb, extract, clean, and reuse these gases. This innovation significantly reduces our environmental impact and supports our commitment to sustainability.

Our green credentials continue to grow! 💚

In partnership with SageTech Veterinary we're going to pilot an innovative anaesthetic gas capture technology to help prevent harmful greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere!

SageTech’s gas capture technology, works by capturing the exhaled waste anaesthetic agent by safely adsorbing it into a specially developed reusable capture canister. These waste anaesthetic agents can then be extracted from the filter, avoiding reliance on the current disposal strategies of incineration or release into the atmosphere.

Keen to be green! 💚

We're keen to be green! 💚

As most of you will likely know, we have a big green initiative here at Davies and are always looking for ways to become a more sustainable hospital. In partnership with SageTech Veterinary, we're piloting an innovative anaesthetic gas capture technology to help prevent harmful greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere.

The waste hierarchy is a simple ranking system used for the different waste management options.

At SageTech Veterinary, we are proud to be playing our part in sustaining our planet and reducing waste.

By capturing waste volatile anaesthetic gas before it is released into the atmosphere, we are helping to prevent the harmful effects it has on the environment.

Once captured, we can recycle this gas, ready for future reuse.

SageTech Veterinary's innovative VET-Dock is a waste volatile anaesthetic gas capture device specifically designed to be used within veterinary practices. The device houses a single canister, known as a VET-Can, that uses a capture material that binds to the volatile agents that pass through the expiratory waste limb of the breathing circuit.

Engineered with simplicity in mind, the VET-Dock is easy to install and use, whilst maintaining patient safety and improving current safety standards for veterinary clinical staff.

Excited to share how we are reducing our carbon footprint using the SageTech Veterinary VET-Dock! 🌍
❓Did you know the key agent in inhalant anaesthesia is a potent greenhouse gas
❗️U.K. vet practices produce the equivalent of 3700 return flights from London to New York with the waste gas being released into the atmosphere!
This brilliant device not only captures the anaesthetic gases that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere. It also contains technology so that the collected agents can be extracted and reused again after purification 🙌

Did you know 95% of anaesthetic used in veterinary operations is released into the atmosphere?

Every year, an estimated 74,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions (GWP20) are released from volatile anaesthetic gases used in veterinary practices in the UK alone. This is equivalent to the emissions produced by 37,000 return flights from London to New York!

Learn about SageTech Veterinary's innovative solution to this problem: www.sagetechveterinary.com.

SageTech Veterinary are pleased to announce that recent winners of a Best UK Vets Award and a Bronze Award from Investors in the Environment (iiE), Watkins & Tasker Veterinary Group, are the first independent veterinary practice to adopt our novel innovation to capture and recycle anaesthetic gases.

This will significantly decrease their scope 1 direct emissions caused by sevoflurane, a potent greenhouse gas.

It’s been great working with Steve Tasker, Holly Charlton, Georgina Seward and all the team at Watkins & Tasker!

Matt had a great time recently on site at Davies Veterinary Specialists alongside Certus BioMedical to install our volatile gas capture technology!

"Linnaeus Veterinary and Mars Veterinary Health are leading the way to decrease the impact of volatile anaesthetic agents on the environment. Our technology has the potential to significantly reduce the part of practice's carbon footprint resulting from anaesthetic gases. I believe this demonstrates leadership to the wider profession, embracing good stewardship of the pharmaceuticals we use. A big thank you to Ellie West, Linnaeus' Environmental Sustainability Lead; Ronan Doyle, Clinical Director; Emily Gibbons, Operations Manager; Louise Clark, Anaesthesia Specialist and Clinical Lead; Lucy Hart, Registered Veterinary Nurse and Diagnostics Nurse Team Leader; and Nicola Taylor, Registered Veterinary Nurse at Davies Veterinary Specialists. Of course, we could not have done this without the installation team from Certus Biomedical - Thank you!"
