⚠️⚠️⚠️ ATTENTION ALL DOG OWNERS
- As of today, we are advising all dog owners to avoid walking through The Cockington Watermeadows and through Cockington Village or to walk with caution. The reason is the homeless male living illegally in the woods in the Cockington Watermeadows. Please read this statement below, in full.
- This man can be aggressive and he possesses an aggressive dog, which he refuses to control, and last week a lady was badly bitten on the leg by this dog, while protecting her own dog. The matter has been reported to the Police but, so far, no action.
- Our volunteer group has received numerous reports of other aggressive acts by this man and his dog and we are very fearful that someone else will be bitten badly, even a child.
- Our Lead Volunteer tried to talk to this man on Monday evening to ask him to control his dog and to advise that he should leave, due to the level of public disquiet. A rational conversation was not possible due to his aggressive reaction, sadly.
- This man has been living in the Watermeadows since the Spring. The Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust were warned of this man's presence and his aggressive nature, at the time. No meaningful action was taken until this week in the wake of the recent attack on this poor lady. The man has now been asked to leave by The Trust but we think only a court injunction will sort his exit from the area.
- We have put the Trust under much pressure this past week or so to take the right action. Only they can remove this man, realistically. The housing authorities have been contacted with a view to helping and ultimately housing this man, but their is a long list of those waiting.
- We are asking members of the public to email the Trust to complain, in the strongest possible terms, about this situation, especially if they have been threatened themselves. Many of you have already done this and we thank you all. Only 'People Power' pushing a reluctant Trust will resolve this matter.
- If you have been badly threatened by this man and/or his dog, we would encourage you also to report this to the Police.
- We would ask everyone to SHARE THIS POST on their Facebook Feeds and please also warn their friends.
- Please, dog owners, avoid Cockington Watermeadows and the village of Cockington until this matter is resolved.

**IMPORTANT PLEASE READ** SHARED FROM ANOTHER GROUP
It is with a heavy heart that I am telling you that a family members dog died yesterday after playing with the garden hose with my nephews.
He suffered secondary drowning and devastatingly this was fatal. He was fit & healthy; he was the tender age of 3!
Fly high Basil 💔🐾
I personally wasn’t aware of secondary drowning and play with my dogs with my garden hose to cool them down. This is one of Blake’s favourite games.
What is secondary drowning??
Your pet has likely inhaled water into its lungs, and even after coughing it up or after observing water draining from the nose or mouth, there could be residual water remaining in the lungs. This could lead to pneumonia. Secondary drowning has been known to occur, even up to three days after the initial near-drowning. Exhaustion is almost always the cause of drowning. With a hose or even a sprinkler your dog can inhale the water and this can be fatal.
