PIF/BDGA Advice on Pet Grooming during Covid-19 Outbreak

The Pet Industry Federation believes that under the right circumstances, pet groomers can still deliver a professional service to pet owners during this current Covid-19 outbreak.

By employing social distancing measures and adequate hygiene protocols, pet groomers should still be able to safely groom. However, the decision to do so is entirely down to each individual and their own personal circumstances!

The measures pet groomers should adopt include:

1) Hand sanitiser to be used upon arrival by each customer
2) Collars and leads swapped on arrival for a salon-own lead
3) Steriliser on the front desk for cash payments but no change given. Card payments ideally only should be used.
4) All surfaces, floors, seats and door handles should be disinfected between each groom.
5) The coronavirus can sit on a pet's coat, so disposable gloves and masks should be worn for the initial intake and handling of pets prior to bathing. Bath pets thoroughly prior to any grooming procedure.
6) Maximum one customer in reception at any time. Separate customers so only one arrives at a time. Ask next appointments to wait in their car or away from your entrance until the previous customer leaves.

By making adjustments to your normal routine, PIF believes that pet grooming at this time may still be safely undertaken. Despite the Covid-19 outbreak, many pets still need to be groomed on welfare grounds and this is an important professional service that can still be undertaken currently by pet groomers who are happy to do so.

PIF will be monitoring the situation closely and will update this guidance as necessary.

From 1st April I will be closed on Sundays. This is due to a change in family circumstances so I hope it doesn't inconvenience anyone too much.
