A little snippet of what we are doing in our Scentwork classes. The nose knows. 1 drop of truffle oil hidden in a brick, bag, book, table and more. 20 minutes of high frequency sniffing is equivalent to an hours free running. A physical and mental workout for your dog.

PUPPY BITING PROBLEMS
Puppies are adorable bundles of joy, but their sharp little teeth can turn an interactive play session into a painful and challenging experience. Understanding why puppies bite and how to address it can save your sanity and your skin.
Why Do Puppies Bite?
Puppies bite for several reasons: teething discomfort, playfulness, and learning about their environment. It’s a natural part of their development, but it’s essential to guide them toward appropriate behaviour.
Teething Troubles.
Teething can turn your pup into a biting machine. Like human babies, puppies experience discomfort as their new teeth come in. They use their mouths to soothe the ache.
The Playful Nipper.
Most puppy biting happens during play. Puppies use their mouths to explore and interact. Teaching them that human skin is off-limits is crucial for their development.
Growth, learning and development.
You’ve guessed it, It’s all happening with growth and discovery. Taste, touch and smell. Everything goes into the mouth for testing.
A human child teeths 32 teeth over approximately 12 years. –
A puppy teeths 42 teeth in 6 to 7 months!
Teething usually peeks around 12 to 16 weeks when biting will be at it’s worst.
Teething also coincides with a stage of development where puppy grows more adventurous, appearing to become more challenging, or even dominant, which is just NOT the case. If handled incorrectly, it will become a battle and a learned behaviour. Calm consistent training as suggested will help to alleviate the problem.
How to Address Puppy Biting
1. Gentle Redirection:
When your puppy starts to bite, redirect their attention to a toy. Keep a variety of chew toys handy to offer as alternatives.
2. Teach Bite Inhibition:
Puppies learn bite inhibition from their littermates and mother. If they bite too hard during play, their siblings will yelp and stop playing. You can mimic this by letting out a high-pitched "Ouch!" and withdrawing attention.
3. Consistency is Key:
Everyone in the household should be on the same page. Mixed signals will confuse your puppy. Ensure all family members follow the same rules and methods.
4. Provide Chew Alternatives:
Offer teething puppies plenty of appropriate chew toys. Frozen carrot sticks or special teething toys can help soothe their gums.
5. Positive Reinforcement:
Reward your puppy for gentle play and chewing on appropriate items. Treats, praise, and affection reinforce good behaviour.
Conclusion
Puppy biting is a natural part of their development, but with patience and consistency, you can teach your puppy to play nice. Remember, every step you take brings you closer to a well-behaved dog.
Do not leave puppy unattended around children, ensure pups needs are met and you will come out the other side. Have fun and enjoy your puppy.

Mantrailing is a great team sport with your dog and other like minded people.
We teach your dog to search for specific human scent. A grand game of hide and seek in it's simplest form, progressing to a variety of complex trails. Come try an introductory session and see how much fun it is.
