Today I say goodbye to Berries and leaves

Its been a wonderful journey creating all these products and seeing the results on your pets has been truly heartwarming. I am proud of what I have created, berries and leaves grew into something much bigger than I ever expected. Sadly it has grown bigger than my capacity to manage it.

It hasn't been easy taking a step away but it is the right thing to do at this moment in time for my family and myself.

I have been humbled by the amount of interest there has been in people wanting to purchase the business, or wanting to join the management team to keep us going and messages from people saying how sad they are to see us close. I have met some incredible people who would do a wonderful job as new owners of berries and leaves but sadly the sale has fallen through. So Berries and leaves will go into hibernation. One day, when the time is right, it may reemerge.

Id like to say a heartfelt thank you to all of my customers, old and new and of course the wonderful brand ambassadors who emerced themselves in the training around our products and animal skincare, Please do seek them out for further skincare consultations albit without berries and leaves

For those who are following Teds story

Ted has been coming to the grooming salon the skin treatment since August last year. We are absolutely thrilled with Ted’s progress. His skin was so severely damaged. We weren’t sure it was possible to recover. But with a powerful help of plants, Ted now has areas of healthy pink skin growth and new hair growth along his back and the patches of alopecia on his hind legs have completely gone. They have been replaced with healthy skin and plenty of hair. 😍

Teds story:
Ted is now owned by an animal Sanctuary and his skin is improved hugely since being there as he is so well cared for
Sadly, the thick and damaged skin is the lasting result due to the neglect he suffered in his early years

I used calendula nettles and lavender To help soften thickened crusty skin add elasticity moisturise repair and fight any bacterial or fungal infections that may still be there

I then washed him with the berries and leaves shampoo bar for dry and sore skin due for its highly nourishing and moisturising properties and to improve the skin natural barrier

And he went home with a skin balm for dry skin to hydrate and soften the skin, improve micro circulation and encourage healthy new hair growth

It’s time so say goodbye 👋🏻 😞

it’s been a pleasure to watch the business grow, seeing the results natural products have on your animals skin has been the biggest reward 🥰 but sadly the business has grown larger than my capacity to manage it 😞 I have taken the difficult decision to close down the business.

Berries and leaves is an extension of myself, I have created all the formulations from scratch, I created all the products in my kitchen, all the blog posts, marketing, and the brand ambassador pack. I am very sad to close down but it’s not the right time to continue at the moment.

Lovely Milo came to us for help with his very sore itchy skin. His skin was very flaky, dry and Milo was suffering hair loss in places.
Milo had many trips to the vets and the cause of the issue was a little unclear but the vet and owner decided the most likely cause is separation anxiety

Milo was treated in the salon with a skin mask for dry and sore skin, shampoo bar for dry and sore skin and skin balm for dry skin

After a few visits, his skin condition had vastly improved although he still struggles with separation anxiety. He is now at least more comfortable.

While some customers ask about liquid shampoo, we choose to produce our shampoo in bar form. Liquid shampoo can be complicated to create, and in the pet industry, they often contain undisclosed ingredients. Liquid shampoos also require more ingredients, stronger preservatives, several surfactants to balance the composition and different stabilisers to stop the product separating, foaming agents to make spread easily etc.
This can be harmful to the environment. Our shampoo bars use only the necessary ingredients, natural preservatives, and a single mild, natural surfactant. They are also easier to use on pets' faces during bath time. Additionally, we prioritize sustainable sourcing and packaging, and strive to reduce our carbon footprint for everyone!

This is lovely, Kim and her sister Kath were rescued a few years ago, right the beginning of the berries and leaves journey. their lovely owner contacted us and asked if we could help as Kim had severely damaged dry skin which was really flaky and very itchy for her

Kim was treated using the skin mask shampoo bar and skin recovery balm for dry sore and itchy skin and ever since her skin has been fabulous doesn’t she look fab

Why shampoo bars, not soap bars?
many customers refer to shampoo bars as 'soap.' This is a common mistake, as shampoo is usually in liquid form rather than a bar. We make shampoo bars rather than liquid shampoo for environmental reasons, but it's also important to note that soap bars are not suitable for cleaning hair.

The main differences between a shampoo bar and a bar of soap lie in their formulations and intended uses:

Ingredients:

Shampoo Bars: Specifically formulated for hair, and in our case, a variety of skin types. we use a variety of nourishing oils to suit different skin types and we use only one mild surfactants that help cleanse hair and skin without heavily stripping natural oils or severely cleaning skin
Soap Bar: Primarily designed for cleansing skin and often includes a variety of fats, oils, either natural or synthetic and lye. It’s not typically formulated for hair care.
pH Levels:

Shampoo Bars: Have a lower pH that’s more suitable for hair and dogs skin. Our shampoo bars PH ranges from 6.8 to 7 depending on skin type (dogs skin PH is a complicated issue which I could create another course about)
Bar Soap: Generally is more alkaline which is more suitable for human skinh but is be too harsh for hair (ours or animals) and will lead to dry and damaged hair.
