🖤 Winnie 🖤

Winnie is a lovely 12-week old black lab puppy who came in today to have a broken baby canine tooth x-rayed and removed.

Why should broken baby teeth be treated rather than just waiting until they fall out?

🦷 the sensitive pulp cavity inside the tooth is exposed and can die, which is painful (even if the puppy keeps eating and biting, like Winnie did!)

🦷 infection can travel up the exposed pulp cavity, causing an abscess, and damaging the developing adult tooth behind

Winnie sailed through her operation and was soon demanding her breakfast bowl be refilled!

26th Dec - 9am - 11am, outside of these times emergencies only
27th Dec - normal Saturday surgery 9am - 11am
29th Dec - normal surgery 9am - 7pm
30th Dec - normal surgery 9am - 7pm
31st Dec - 9am - 5pm
1st Jan - 9am - 11am, outside of these times for emergencies only

Normal surgery hours resume from Fri 2nd Jan 2026.

🦷✨VINNIE’S DENTAL DAY✨🦷

How cute is this little Christmas sausage?

Vinnie’s mum is very dedicated and brushes his teeth every day, but small breeds like dachshunds are often prone to dental disease and may need regular vet checks and treatments.

Vinnie came in last week for a full dental procedure which included:
🦷 general anaesthetic, to be able to fully assess and treat under the gumline without causing pain
🦷 ‘scale and polish’ cleaning treatment above and below the gumline of all teeth
🦷 x-rays to check the health of his teeth under the gumline
🦷 extraction of some sore and fractured teeth
🦷 lots of cuddles, TLC, and snacks in recovery with his special blanket and Christmas toys 🎄

He came in for his post-op check today and has been signed off, ready for his mum to start brushing again!

🐶 EXCITING NEWS 🐶

Briar Vets are excited to announce that we are introducing 'lap spay' surgery to our clinic.

Laparoscopic ovariectomy is a minimally invasive method of neutering female dogs. The surgery is carried out under general anaesthetic, using keyhole surgery equipment to perform the procedure through three small holes in the tummy. It has many advantages over the traditional spay operation:
✅️ faster patient recovery
✅️ less pain following surgery
✅️ lower rate of complications.

Lap spays are particularly suitable for active/working dogs that may be difficult to rest after surgery.

We are offering a few Lap Spay appointments with the special introductory offer of no Lap Spay surcharge (a £300+ saving)!

If you are a registered client and have a female dog that is:
✅️ 3 months post-season, and not ready to come in again
✅️ more than 8kg bodyweight
✅️ not intended for breeding

A cat has been found on Gunthwaite Lane and brought in to us. If you think he might be yours please contact us as soon as possible. Proof of ownership will be required.

**UPDATE** the ferret is now in the care of Prospect Ferret Rescue in Almondbury.

**LOST FERRET**

Very friendly female ferret found on Wellhouse Lane this morning. She is unfortunately not microchipped Please call the clinic on 01226 766099 if she may be yours. Proof of ownership will be required.

NOW SORTED

**⚡️POWER CUT⚡️**
WE NOW HAVE POWER AGAIN. THANK YOU TO THE ENGINEERS OUT IN THAT WEATHER.

We currently have no power at the clinic. This means we are unable to book appointments, update clinical records, label medications etc. We are happy to see those with booked appointments not requiring procedures, with BACS payment or payment by phone once we can obtain prices from the system. If you would prefer to rebook, please give the clinic a call on 01226 766099, and we can cancel your appointment and contact you to rebook once we have access to the diary. Apologies for any inconvenience caused - we will continue to keep you updated, and hope everyone stays safe in the storm!

***MISSING*** NOW FOUND!!

2 young male Jack Russells missing since last night from a farm near Royd Moor reservoir. They do roam on the farm and often down to the reservoir but usually bring themselves home. They are very friendly and may have been picked up by someone thinking they are lost. They are collared and chipped.
