Summer’s here which means it’s grass seed season🌱

Grass seeds are often found in meadows and woodland during the summer months, and they are a problem to dogs because they can easily brush off into their fur during walks.

Grass seeds have very sharp, pointy ends, so although they’re tiny, if they become trapped in your dog’s fur, they can burrow down and pierce their skin. They can also get stuck in your dog’s paws, ears, eyes or nose. If your dog becomes injured by a grass seed, it can be very painful.

Common symptoms include excessive licking or chewing at a specific area, swelling, redness, discharge, limping, sneezing, coughing or difficulty breathing if seeds have been inhaled.

It is important during these months to make sure to regularly brush your dogs coats, avoid walking in areas of long grass or areas of growing grass and ensuring to throughly inspect your dogs coats, paws, ears and noses after any outdoor activities for signs of grass seeds and to remove them promptly.

⭐️PATIENT OF THE MONTH⭐️

This is Hattie the Boston Terrier, Hattie first came to visit Steph in March with bilateral non-healing ulcers in her eyes.

To help Hattie feel more comfortable she was coming in three times a day to see our nurses for drops to be applied to both eyes, from this we saw improvement in the left eye but her right eye was still very sore and had become very inflamed.

Due to this the decision was made to perform a Conjunctival Graft. This is where we take a tissue called the conjunctiva and stitch it over the ulcer. The graft then provides a blood supply and physically support to the ulcer which allows it to heal. The surgery was a complete success and it was the road to recovery for Hattie🐾

Steph saw Hattie back this week and was delighted to sign her off! Now she is back to her playful cheeky self and although we will all miss seeing her three times a day we are over the moon that she is feeling better❤️

How cute is Stan!🐶❤️ This handsome boy was an inpatient today to have a couple of lumps removed from his nose and leg! He was very good & brave throughout his stay and we wish him the speediest recovery❤️

Catherine is here to remind everyone that the law is changing around Cat Microchipping🤠🚓

From the 10th of June it will be a legal requirement for all cats in the UK to be microchipped and registered to a database in the UK by the time they are 20 weeks of age, this is to ensure that lost cats can be easily reunited with their owners!

All May & June we are offering £10 Microchipping to all our clients to ensure that everyone’s pet is registered and will be easily traced back to their family❤️
